Chapter 235 - 235 234 Davis Golden Cap
Chapter 235: Chapter 234 Davis Golden Cap Chapter 235: Chapter 234 Davis Golden Cap In the following two days, more and more knight regiments gathered at the Fire Ant Swamp.
Baron Curis Tianzigao of Blackgarden Mountain arrived, and Russell welcomed this relative along with his father—Russell’s sister, Rolin, was Baron Curis’s daughter-in-law, making the two barons in-laws by marriage.
“Rolin is doing well, and in two or three months she’ll be giving birth, haha.” About to have a grandson, Baron Curis was in high spirits.
Baron Roman felt somewhat bittersweet; his daughter was far away in a foreign land, facing the difficulties of pregnancy and childbirth, and as parents, they couldn’t be by her side.
So, in private, he told Russell, “After this great battle is over, you and Roland must go to Blackgarden Mountain to visit Rolin.”
“Don’t worry, Father, I will,” Russell assured.
“Ah, Rolin was always so competitive as a child, I wonder how she’s been living on Blackgarden Mountain, but fortunately, Cooper doesn’t seem like the rough type… I hope the two of them live in harmony,” Baron Roman reflected.
Russell replied, “When I go to Blackgarden Mountain, I’ll discreetly observe my sister and brother-in-law’s life, and in the future, I’ll also stand up for my sister.”
Baron Roman said with relief, “That’s good, Russell, that’s exactly how siblings should be with each other.”
After the arrival of the knight regiment from Blackgarden Mountain, more of Russell’s relatives soon came.
It was Baron Davis Golden Cap from the Golden Prairie, leading his knight regiment. When he arrived, Baron Davis was not on horseback but instead riding a tawny bipedal flying dragon, descending gallantly from the sky.
Baron Kunbiff, as always, waited enthusiastically at the gate.
As Russell stood in the line of nobles welcoming the guests, he saw his father, Baron Roman’s, lips twitch dismissively.
Even between his clenched teeth, he muttered two words: “Show-off…”
After Baron Davis had greeted Baron Kunbiff, he strode over to Baron Roman, “Roman, my good brother, Roby talks about you every day, insisting you to come and stay at Golden Top Castle for a few days after the battle!”
“If there’s a chance, I shall,” Baron Roman smiled and embraced the other man, though Russell could sense his perfunctory sentiment.
After the embrace, Baron Davis turned to Russell, “What a handsome young man you’ve become; your aunt could never have imagined that the unremarkable nephew of yesteryear is now a qualified knight!”
“Hello, Uncle,” Russell smiled, “How’s my aunt’s health? I’d like to visit her and my cousin when I have the time.”
“Your aunt’s health is fine, and Diana is very much looking forward to her brothers visiting,” Baron Davis said casually before moving on to greet other nobles.
When the group returned to the great hall of Swan Castle and sat down,
Russell could clearly see that Baron Roman didn’t hold his brother-in-law in high regard, and the warmth between them was somewhat lacking.
Of course.
Russell knew the reasons only too well.
It was because Baron Davis and Aunt Roby had only given birth to a daughter. It wasn’t that Aunt Roby didn’t want to have a son as an heir, her body simply didn’t allow it, and even giving birth to that daughter had taken a great deal of effort.
“Apparently, Baron Davis has kept many mistresses to help him father sons, but not a single one became pregnant…”
These matters were all things Russell had heard from his grandmother, Lady Ingrid.
The old lady and her daughter Roby exchanged a plethora of letters every month, chattering about everything and anything. Aunt Roby complained more than once that Baron Davis wanted to father illegitimate children outside.
At first, the old lady was outraged, but later she actually hoped Davis would indeed father a bastard child.
She even planned that once Davis did have a bastard child, she would have Aunt Roby bring the child home to raise as her own.
But alas.
No such thing ever came to be, proving that it wasn’t that Aunt Roby’s body was unfit for childbirth, but rather that there was a problem with Baron Davis.
“Ah, Aunt is quite pitiable, giving birth only to my cousin Diana… In time, Golden Prairie might fall into the hands of others. But it doesn’t really matter, Baron Davis is a flying dragon knight, destined to live long, and the shifting ownership of Golden Prairie will be a matter for the distant future.”
Baron Davis had no heirs, and as a female, his daughter Diana could not inherit the title, so an heir would eventually have to be selected from among the collateral branches of the family.
Russell thought about this and that.
Soon, he shifted his attention to Baron Davis’s mount, the brown-yellow bipedal flying dragon.
It was a Peat Dragon.
Peat was classified as a metal, but it was also a type of fuel and a fertilizer. Its burning intensity could not compare with coal, and as a fertilizer, it did not match the nutrients of compost, but its abundant production was its advantage. The underground of the entire Golden Prairie was almost entirely covered with peat.
With such abundant peat, the Golden Prairie was naturally a fertile land with crops that could be harvested three times a year, a land rich and dripping with fat.
It was said that during the ice period, the locals just dug up soil from the ground to burn at home, staying warm and cozy throughout the entire ice period.
“If I had a Peat Dragon, how marvelous that would be!” Russell thought bitterly.
A Peat Dragon could bring an inexhaustible supply of peat, satisfying the fuel needed for daily life as well as the fertilizer needed for agricultural production. It was simply perfect.
Even though it was on the eve of a great war, the banquet was never once interrupted.
As Count Shard Osclo Willow from the Gravel Domain arrived with two bipedal flying dragons and a large group of knights to Swan Castle, the banquet reached its peak, and even a lord like Russell had no chance to sit at the main table.
However, after the peak comes the decline.
With the return of the Flying Dragon Knight who had been monitoring Snow Giant Da at the front lines, bringing news that the Snow Demon Legion had already assembled, Swan Castle no longer held banquets. All the Knight Regiments moved to dwell in the caverns on the border of Fire Ant Swamp.
The order from Red Castle also arrived on January 19th.
“The Shadowflame Great Dragon has decided to launch a revenge attack on Snow Giant Da. All Flying Dragon Knights and Knight Regiments, begin exterminating the Snow Demon Legion immediately!”
Upon receiving the order,
the Knight Regiments stationed in the caverns quickly advanced into the snowfields under the lead of the Flying Dragon Knights.
“Exterminate the Snow Demons!”
“Hunt down the Snow Ghosts!”
The knights shouted slogans as they braved the bitter wind and snow, charging through the ice-covered land of the snowfield.
“Snow Giant Da is still one hundred kilometers away at the Lightning Attraction Point. He seems to be waiting for something, so for the time being, we are safe and can freely hunt Snow Demons and Snow Ghosts!” Baron Roman said to a few lord subordinates before charging.
“It’s definitely waiting for the Shadowflame Great Dragon!” Lord Sally said with a grave look, “This is a contest between top combatants.”
Uncle Roson nodded in agreement, “Yes. Snow Giant Da has assembled the Snow Demon Legion simply to use them to block our Knight Regiments, preventing us from interfering with the battle between him and the Shadowflame Great Dragon… The deciding factor isn’t us.”
“This is perfect!” Lord Uterras laughed heartily, “Let the giant and the dragon fight their battle, and we’ll fight ours!”
Seeing the high spirits of the knights, Baron Roman immediately waved his hand, “Then, charge!”
Boom boom boom!
The Knight Regiment from Glowing Valley started the battle to exterminate the Snow Demons.
In the support squad, Russell did not take a commanding position, still leaving Eric in charge. He rode Unicorn Polly, inconspicuously following along with the support squad, entered the battlefield, and hunted down the scattered Snow Ghosts.
“It’s so easy, too easy!”
With one slash, Russell cut off a Snow Ghost’s head and quickly swung the Green Ceramic Sword in his hand. Several sword gleams flew out, slicing the headless Snow Ghost to pieces.
Then he thrust again.
The Snow Ghost’s head was shredded by the sword gleam into pieces, dropping a snow-white, glass marble-looking Ice Pellet Pearl.
Battle Qi stuck to the tip of the blade, and with a gentle flick, the Ice Pellet Pearl fell into Russell’s hand.
“After being promoted to a Phantom Beast Knight, besides the Snow Demons, no other Snow Ghost or Great Snow Ghost can withstand my sword!”
