Chapter 889: The Seasonal Skill [Domains in the Immortal Realm]
Shenlian Yingyue and her companions flew out of the area that was about to become the battlefield. They departed quietly, leaving behind only the faint yet captivating scent of florals and rare herbs lingering in the air.
Since they had lived for a long time in the Ethereal Small World, their bodies had been constantly bathed in the fragrances of flowers and herbs they cultivated everywhere throughout that realm. Their scents became so mesmerizing that even without applying any perfume, the floral and herbal aromas had already become their natural essence.
In the stark, unforgiving expanse of the desert, where flowers were scarce and life was sparse, the air carried only the dry, sun-baked scent of cracked earth and ancient stone. The desert smelled of sun-scorched sand, parched earth, and the faint woody tang of withered shrubs, a raw, clean scent embodying pure heat and emptiness.
However, as Shenlian Yingyue and her companions moved, the gentle breeze caught their unique floral scent, carrying it far and wide across the barren desert. This fragrance soon attracted the attention of the immortal disciples from Cold Maple Palace. They instinctively turned their faces toward the retreating figures, doubt and fascination flashing in their eyes.
The nine immortal female disciples deliberately ignored the slender figure surrounded by the tall figures at the center. Instead, their gazes focused solely on the broad shoulders and imposing builds of the men around Shenlian Yingyue. They couldn’t help but wonder what appearances and identities these mysterious beings concealed.
"Senior sisters, pay attention to the current situation," the only immortal male disciple in the group stated coldly. His voice was beautiful like a flowing melody, yet carried the freezing chill of winter snow, utterly devoid of emotion.
The immortal female disciples immediately turned their heads at his voice. The obsession that had briefly clouded their eyes quickly faded, and they nodded obediently. Their faces showed no expression, yet within their hearts, a colder frost took root.
How could they allow themselves to be bewitched by a group of cloaked strangers with unknown origins? No matter how unique or extraordinary these outsiders appeared, they could never compare to even a single strand of their junior brother’s hair. His power, identity, and temperament were things everyone envied and admired from afar.
The Glass Lizards, watching from a distance, scoffed inwardly. These immortal female disciples always acted aloof and distant, looking down on others as if none could match them. Yet today, even they had been momentarily captivated by someone else? The Glass Lizards silently admired Shenlian Yingyue and her companions for achieving what others could not.
The Glass Lizards then clashed violently with the immortal disciples of Cold Maple Palace, who wielded ice magic cleverly disguised as maple leaves, blending seamlessly with the real foliage scattered across the sands. In human form, the Glass Lizards summoned raging sandstorms, unleashing razor-sharp grains that sliced mercilessly through flesh and cloth alike.
In response, the immortal disciples shifted the scorching summer climate of the Ember Dune Desert into a sudden, biting winter. Snowflakes transformed into crimson maple leaves as countless frost-laden trees sprouted from the desert sands, their branches weighed down with ice disguised as autumn foliage. The desert, now blanketed under a shimmering frozen forest, became a battlefield of deceptive beauty.
At first, the immortal disciples gained the upper hand, their snow-enhanced ice Spiritual Roots having turned the terrain in their favor. Every maple leaf scattered across the snowy ground contained hidden frost spells that triggered the instant someone stepped on them, freezing the Glass Lizards’ feet and encasing their limbs in jagged ice. With the desert now buried under snow and ice, the Glass Lizards struggled, their natural sand magic stifled by the unnatural, frozen terrain.
Yet despite the disadvantage, the Glass Lizards refused to falter. Channeling the full force of their power, they shattered the bindings of ice that held them, turning the frozen restraints into brittle sand fragments. Freed from their icy prisons, they retaliated fiercely, their mastery over sand magic undiminished even within the disciples’ winter domain. The battle raged on without either side willing to yield.
Though both sides fought valiantly, in the end, the Cold Maple Palace disciples, only ten in number, were overwhelmed by the Lizards’ thousand-strong force, and the battle ended swiftly and decisively.
From their observations, Shenlian Yingyue and her companions quickly recalled the ancient words taught by the Glass Lizard Ancestor and the elders.
Among all the many forces and domains within the vast Immortal Realm, the immortals from the Seasonal Domain were renowned for their unmatched proficiency in manipulating the forces of nature and the ever-changing seasons.
Similar to the organization of forces in the Mortal Realm, the Immortal Realm was divided into countless domains, each possessing vastly different terrains and unique characteristics.
The Cold Maple Palace was one of the major powers, ranking seventh among the top forces within the Seasonal Domain. There, ninety percent of the immortal disciples of the Cold Maple Palace were female.
The Ember Dune Desert was located in the southern reaches of the Forgotten Domain, one of the weakest domains among all others in the Immortal Realm. The domain earned its name because every immortal existence born here possessed the lowest cultivation levels and the most inferior bloodlines compared to other immortals.
Most immortals from other domains were reluctant to even step into the Forgotten Domain, as if merely setting foot here would taint their pure auras. Nonetheless, many still ventured here, lured by the promise of hidden treasures and countless unexplored mysteries.
It was for this reason that the immortal disciples of the Cold Maple Palace looked down upon the beings of this domain and dared to trespass so brazenly in order to plunder its riches.
"Pfft!!" Blood splattered across the ground, staining the sand red, as the immortal disciples suffered grievous injuries.
Meanwhile, the immortal male disciple’s figure suddenly fell down on one knee. Yet if one observed closely, they would discover that he did not suffer even the slightest wound. Why, then, was he pretending to be injured?
"Junior brother!" The female immortals, ignoring their own bleeding wounds, immediately rushed to surround him, their voices filled with panic and concern, as if the very sky were about to collapse.
The man simply shook his head, signaling them to back away and give him space. No one dared to get too close or touch him. No matter how much they wished to be near him, none of them had the courage to disobey.
Just as the Glass Lizards prepared to continue the battle, countless figures appeared in the skies above. All of them wore the same Cold Maple Palace robes. Some rode upon strange flying beasts that no longer existed in the Mortal Realm, beasts so rare and majestic they seemed almost mythical. Others preferred flying freely through the air or traveling atop enchanted flying tools, treating the act of flight like mere amusement.
Around another twenty members had arrived to reinforce the group.
"Junior Brother Xang!" All of them appeared terrified at the sight of his supposed injuries.
Xang, the man everyone addressed so respectfully, narrowed his eyes. Sensing his displeasure, the reinforcements immediately paused, not daring to approach too closely.
"Junior Brother Xang, you’re already exhausted. Please leave the rest to us," they said softly. But when their gazes shifted toward the Glass Lizards glaring at them with hatred, their tones sharpened into venomous threats. "You’ll pay the price for harming him!"
They drew their weapons, ready to strike.
Yet before they could launch their attack, another group of immortals arrived, and then another, and another. More and more immortal cultivators descended upon the battlefield, surrounding the region completely, causing the Glass Lizards to frown in growing unease.
’Why were so many immortal forces gathering here today of all days? Could it be that they were also after that thing?’
When this realization struck them, the Glass Lizards’ eyes flashed with murderous intent.
Absolutely not. They would never allow anyone else to claim it.
