Chapter 201: Chapter 194: Decisive Part 2
Constantly stirring the soup in the pot, Dongyue waited until there was no trace of the elixir left before he breathed a sigh of relief and went inside to fetch two wooden bowls, filling each and bringing them in.
He then piled up a stack of mixed grain vegetable cakes that he had prepared earlier next to the table.
"Dinner’s ready,"
he said as he set the bowls and utensils, speaking softly to Jing’er.
"Mmm."
Jing’er had been knitting something, stopped her needlework at his words, and moved to sit at the table.
"It smells so good... Yue’er’s cooking is still fantastic!"
Her face was filled with happiness.
"It’s just something I honed when I was alone before," Dongyue smiled. His gaze tried to look natural as he watched Jing’er. "Eat while it’s hot, it won’t be good once it cools down."
"Mmm." Over the years, Jing’er had grown accustomed to the warmth of being with Yue’er.
Picking up the soup and taking a wild vegetable cake, she delicately bit into it, mixing it with a mouthful of soup. Seeing Dongyue watching her, she felt a bit puzzled.
"Why are you looking at me too?"
"Because you’re cute," Dongyue said casually, and he sighed in relief when he saw her swallow the food and soup.
"Why are you always so sweet-talking?" Jing’er glanced at him with a hint of happiness and continued to sip her soup.
Dongyue also began to eat.
The two quickly finished a bowl of soup and several vegetable cakes, feeling comfortably warm.
Seeing Jing’er without a stir, Dongyue breathed a deep sigh of relief in his heart.
It seemed Jing’er was not a bug master. Perhaps the tattoo or anything else was just a coincidence. Everything could start over....
Thinking this, Dongyue’s mood greatly improved, and he stood up to speak.
"I’ll go clean up the bowls and utensils, you rest well for now."
"Mmm. Thank you."
Jing’er replied sweetly.
Dongyue picked up the bowls and utensils and headed outside towards the nearby stream.
Inside the house, as Jing’er was about to get up and continue sitting by the bed to knit, her body suddenly weakened, her face flashed purple, and she quickly pressed on her abdomen. She felt a knife-like pain in her lower abdomen, unbearable.
"What’s happening?!" A look of alarm crossed her eyes.
"Yue’er..." she suddenly remembered that Dongyue had eaten the same soup as her, got up hurriedly, but stumbled and almost fell to the ground.
Hisss!
A sword light suddenly shone, breaking through the door and fiercely aiming at her neck.
"Who is it!" Jing’er raised her right hand and caught the blade lightning-fast; her palm skin was surprisingly able to make direct contact with the blade, producing a sharp screeching noise.
Just as she was about to exert force, she was suddenly interrupted by a severe pain in her abdomen and collapsed to the ground.
At that moment, the sword light flashed again, thrusting toward her face.
Thud!
This time, the blade pierced into a mass of black sticky fluid. The fluid had appeared out of nowhere in front of Jing’er, ignited by the sword strike, and turned into flying ashes and dispersed.
Lin Xin’s figure appeared at the doorway, standing tall and looking down at her.
"A bug master?" he asked casually.
"You!" Jing’er’s face changed drastically, pushing off with her feet, she retreated backward.
"To still have strength left after ingesting a high-level extermination pill?" Lin Xin was surprised as the Red Flower Sword suddenly unsheathed.
The blade of the sword burst into flames, the whole wooden house glowed in a flash, and with a whoosh, he appeared suddenly behind Jing’er. He struck backwards with his sword.
Hisss! Ding!
The sword’s tip merely nicked Jing’er’s back, producing a clear ring, and penetrated only shallowly.
"Huh?" Surprised by her strong bodily Defense, Lin Xin was about to continue his action but found Jing’er had already jumped out the window.
He hurriedly chased after her, only to find nothing but a cluster of green locusts quickly dispersing on the ground outside.
"Still has strength?"
He flicked his sword blade, casting a large fireball,
and the fire landed on the locusts, immediately scorching those that hadn’t yet had the chance to fly away. The sizzling sound of burning and the stench of scorched insects filled the air.
Lin Xin stood outside the house, frowning deeply as he listened intently, trying to discern the direction of her escape.
"After ingesting a high-level extermination pill, she shouldn’t have been able to use any Spell Method, but she still could, her strength... But even if she’s strong, if she’s a bug master, she definitely can’t use Spell Method frequently..."
With a plan in mind, Lin Xin’s figure flickered, and he suddenly appeared behind the wooden house.
Dongyue’s trace had also vanished.
Pondering, he crouched down to closely examine a footprint.
*******************
"Yue’er! Are you feeling better?"
Jing’er, pulling Dongyue, sped through the forest. Below her feet, locusts barely helped accelerate, and her feet seemed to hover above ground, but for some reason, she couldn’t speed up.
Dongyue was pulled along as he ran, his eyes revealing a complex expression.
Hisss!
Suddenly, Dongyue broke free from her and stopped in place.
"Yue’er?" Jing’er stopped abruptly and reached for his right hand again.
As their hands touched, Dongyue suddenly recoiled.
Jing’er’s hand froze, she stared at him wide-eyed.
"Are you, a bug master?" Dongyue lifted his head and looked at her complexly.
"A bug master..." Jing’er paused, her face turning pale.
"You indeed are!" Dongyue recalled the scene he had witnessed earlier; his stomach started to churn again.
"Yue’er...didn’t you say you’d always be with me?" Jing’er bowed her head, her voice filled with fear and trepidation.
Dongyue opened his mouth, but seeing Jing’er’s somewhat sorrowful face, he couldn’t bring himself to say the next words.
"I...."
"Found it!" Suddenly, Lin Xin’s figure appeared not far behind the two, looking up at them.
Before Dongyue could react, he saw Jing’er grab his hand suddenly and with a powerful swing, threw him into the air.
"Yue’er, run!"
Instead of retreating, Jing’er charged towards Lin Xin.
But affected by the poison, her speed was only equivalent to that of an ordinary Innate master. She had just flown up when several thick vines burst from the ground beneath her, rushing towards her.
The tips of the vines had small mouths filled with saw-like teeth that snapped open and shut, their fierce teeth capable of tearing off large chunks of flesh once they bit down.
Several vines attacked her from three directions in mid-air.
Lin Xin stood still, holding the sword hilt, watching her silently from where he stood.
Boom!
Jing’er’s body suddenly exploded with an invisible ring of light, breaking free from the vines and fiercely throwing them off, crashing into a large rock on the side, shattering the rock into pieces.
In the midst of the limestone debris, Jing’er couldn’t help but spit out a mouthful of blood, collapsing to the ground.
"Where’s your Incarnation Insect Swarm Technique?" Lin Xin’s figure flickered, appearing in front of her in the blink of an eye, and he slashed down with his sword.
Boom!
Jing’er struggled to roll away, her arm and waist side struck by the Sword Qi, instantly losing a large chunk of flesh.
The ground where she had been lying suddenly had a large pit, with mud, rocks, grass, and blood splattering everywhere.
Just as she dodged, Lin Xin’s shadow appeared once again beside her, his sword tip facing down, drawing a trail of Bloody Sword Qi.
Jing’er supported herself on the ground with her palm, rolling up like lightning, barely avoiding the Sword Qi, but she couldn’t help spitting out another mouthful of blood.
"Aren’t all insect masters supposed to have a true form? Why not show your true form?" Lin Xin asked, somewhat puzzled, looking at her with his sword in hand.
Jing’er turned her head towards Dongyue’s direction, she simply didn’t want Yue’er to see her ugly side.
"What a farce," Lin Xin shook his head, not wanting to waste time. Dealing with a poisoned insect master and still taking so long.
He instantly appeared in front of her, raising his sword blade and slashing downwards.
Countless sparks suddenly burst into light.
Boom!!
Jing’er was blasted away, a deep sword cut at her waist nearly cleaving her into two.
Her vision blurred, she lay on her side on the grass, coincidentally facing the spot where Dongyue stood.
"Yue... Yue’er... run...."
She reached out her hand fuzzily, trying to push Dongyue away.
Looking down at Jing’er at his feet, Dongyue didn’t know why, but he felt a sharp pain in his chest.
He walked over and slowly crouched down.
"Yue...er..." Jing’er’s pupils were clearly scattered, but she still didn’t forget to place her hand on his shoe, pushing him with force.
"Go..."
Snap.
Dongyue grabbed her hand.
"I’m here... I’m here...."
Tears unknowingly fell, dripping on the back of their clasped hands.
Lin Xin appeared behind him, gripping the Red Flower Sword in his hand, his eyes flashing with indifference.
"Dongyue, do you still remember what we discussed?"
Dongyue’s body stiffened.
"Brother... I want to... ask you a question."
Lin Xin’s sword tip pointed diagonally to the ground.
"I’ll only say it once, step aside."
However, Dongyue showed no reaction, still tightly holding Jing’er’s hand.
"I want to let go... just... my body doesn’t seem to know how, it won’t release her." He turned his back to Lin Xin, his entire being seeming to crumble, tears streaming down like a broken dam.
"You should know what you’re doing," Lin Xin spoke indifferently. Red runes began to glow on the Red Flower Sword.
"Brother... do you still remember your An Ying?" Dongyue’s words made him shiver.
Silence for a moment.
Amidst the slow footsteps, Lin Xin walked up to him, looking down at him from above.
Dongyue also raised his head to look at him. His hand and Jing’er’s hand were clasped tightly together, as if glued.
Clang!
Sword Light flowed, bursting out like lightning, Lin Xin sending a shocking red light flying from his waist, aiming directly at Jing’er’s forehead.
Without any superfluous words, the sword blade thrust out abruptly, creating a red rainbow light between the three of them.
Thud.
In the dull sound, the Sword Light did not strike Jing’er, but instead landed on Dongyue, who abruptly blocked before her.
The sword blade was only a hair’s breadth from his chest, the Sword Qi already tearing his shirt and slicing a cut on his skin.
Blood flowed slowly from his chest, gradually staining a section of his shirt red.
"" Lin Xin’s hand trembled from the sudden retraction of force.
"Brother..." Dongyue wiped the tears from his face, "I think I still can’t let go." He spoke, his eyes still streaming with tears.
"No matter if she is an insect master or not... no one has ever treated me as well as she has."
Lin Xin looked at him quietly, unsure of what to say for a moment.
After a long while, he fiercely sheathed his sword. The red light flew back into the ground, returning everything to calm.
For some reason, at this moment, he couldn’t help but think of An Ying, of Lingling, and of that last dance in the snow.
Without looking at the two, he silently turned and left, perhaps pretending he had never been there. (To be continued.
