Chapter 111: Chapter 108: Journey Part 2
The flint went out too quickly for Lin Xin to tell if the person was male or female; he could barely make out an outline. All he remembered was that the person’s mouth was open very wide, extremely wide, as if undergoing some form of desperate agony.
Faintly, he thought he smelled a light scent of decay, and it seemed to waft over from the person next to him.
"It’s a corpse...." A chill went through his heart. He moved as far away as possible in the carriage from the corpse. Although he wasn’t afraid of the dead, he didn’t want to be too close to a body that might have been lying in this carriage for who knows how long.
The carriage seemed to start moving.
Lin Xin felt his body lean back slightly as the speed of the carriage suddenly increased.
He reached out to try and open the carriage window, but the window was jammed shut, refusing to budge. The wooden window felt ice-cold and solid to the touch.
Thud!
His palm struck the window neither too lightly nor too heavily, producing a dull sound.
The window didn’t move a bit.
Lin Xin instantly knew there was something wrong with the window, that the material of the carriage was no ordinary wood.
He didn’t dare to force it too much; any unexpected incident would be unmanageable in his state of ignorance.
Feeling around the window, he tried to find a switch but found nothing.
Unable to open the window, Lin Xin simply bent down and pressed his ear against the carriage wall to listen.
Whoosh.... wail....
It seemed like the sound of wind outside, and it also seemed like the sobbing of a woman, vague and intermittent.
After fumbling around for a while and achieving nothing, Lin Xin sat up, closed his eyes to regulate his breath, and remained on high alert to always keep himself in peak condition.
After some thought, he decided to allocate the two free attribute points he hadn’t used since his advancement all to Defense, bringing it to a total of 10 points. These years at the manor, there was no need to venture out and fight to the death, so he simply saved his attribute points without using them. Now that he might be facing danger again, he decided to just add the attributes directly to avoid being caught off guard.
After adding the attributes, Lin Xin faintly sensed subtle changes within his body and knew that these changes would continue for a while, so he continued to regulate his breath and rest.
In the darkness, unaware of how much time had passed, the carriage suddenly jolted.
Lin Xin slowly woke from his half-slumber.
Hiss...
The carriage gradually opened, apparently stopping somewhere.
Outside the carriage door was a desolate grassland. Black weeds thrived, surrounded by slanted gravestones, the night sky speckled with stars, and a cool breeze seeping into the carriage.
Feeling that the carriage had stopped, Lin Xin knew they had arrived. He stood up, hesitated for a moment, but still got out of the carriage.
Just as he was surveying his surroundings, he heard the sound of the carriage door closing behind him, and he quickly looked back.
The black carriage vanished in the blink of an eye.
"This!" Before he had time to think about how to return, he saw a long, tall figure approaching from the wilderness in the distance.
As the figure drew closer, Lin Xin was suddenly taken aback.
It was a person! A man!
Unlike ordinary people, his waist was over three meters tall, with the upper and lower body joined together like a long noodle, swaying softly as he walked.
This person was five meters tall, and from a distance, his upper body’s head appeared as small as a giraffe’s, but with all features intact. His small hands, in contrast to his waist, appeared particularly delicate, as if someone had forcibly stretched his waist.
What surprised Lin Xin even more was that the person was dressed neatly, with long black hair, and if shortened in height, would look just like a red-robed court constable.
When Lin Xin saw him, the strange man also saw Lin Xin.
The two of them, one tall and one short, looked at each other for a moment.
"Azara gululu xian, dong dong luo li ada...." The man began to speak gibberish in his own language, his eyes wide with shock as he stared at Lin Xin as if he had seen some unbelievable monster.
Lin Xin was also somewhat astonished.
"Do you understand human language?" he asked.
The other party stopped speaking, his expression blank. Clearly, he didn’t understand.
At that moment, the strange man suddenly made a move and began mumbling unintelligibly, pointing towards somewhere far behind Lin Xin.
Lin Xin turned his head to look behind him and his mouth formed an ’O’ shape in astonishment.
On the barren grassland behind him, a line of carriages appeared to be moving along, possibly a caravan with flags inserted in the carriages. The guards, however, were a bit odd.
All of them were those long-waisted people!
Just like the giraffe-like creatures with waists over three meters tall!
When Lin Xin saw them, the more than a dozen long-waisted people in the caravan also saw Lin Xin.
Immediately, as if seeing something rare, the leader, an old man, noticed Lin Xin and quickly spoke to the others around him. Then the group of long-waisted people excitedly huddled together, pointing and gesturing at Lin Xin as if staring at a gorilla in a zoo.
Lin Xin didn’t need to guess what they were discussing at this point.
"I’m the normal one here, right...." He was vaguely beginning to realize that he seemed to have arrived in a completely unfamiliar and strange place.
He scrutinized the long-waisted people. They had short and thick legs, long hands that could reach their waists, and their appearance was utterly disproportionate. They walked with great effort, their upper bodies swaying to and fro.
Suddenly, he heard a sound.
Bang!!
It was like an explosion, growing louder and closer, rapidly heading in their direction.
The noise attracted the attention of the long-waisted people, and Lin Xin followed the sound.
In the night, two young men and women dressed in black silk clothes were racing towards them as if flying, chased by a large group of long-waisted people.
What sent a thrill through Lin Xin’s heart was that both the young man and woman were just like him—normal humans!
"Hurry, hurry, hurry!" The man with thick eyebrows and large eyes was drenched in blood. "Give it to me!!"
"Give it to you? Who the hell do you think you are! I worked my ass off to steal this, why should I hand it over to you!" The woman retorted fiercely, holding a severed human hand and screaming.
While fleeing, they kept looking back at their pursuers and continuously threw Talisman Papers behind them, causing explosions of white flames.
The explosions could only slightly delay the pursuers from the Tall People Country, who seemed unafraid of fire and forced their way through the blasts, coldly chasing the pair with knives in hand.
Seeing this, the two groups of Tall People around Lin Xin turned and ran.
Lin Xin had also planned to leave, but suddenly felt a palpitation. His gaze immediately fell on the fleeing man and woman.
"That is..." He suddenly recognized something familiar.
Demon Talisman Seed!
Several Demon Talisman Seeds were wrapped by the woman in cloth along with other assorted items.
One of them inadvertently revealed a corner, but Lin Xin recognized the pattern at a glance.
At the same time, the man and woman noticed Lin Xin and were also taken aback, seemingly surprised to encounter one of their own kind here.
"Daoist friend, lend us your aid!" the man shouted out.
Right at that moment, a redhead among their pursuers from the Tall People Country leaped into the air, his body twisting sideways and spinning rapidly like a fan, and, with a whoosh, he shot towards the pair at a speed much faster than before. Streaks of Qi flew everywhere, raining down like drops of water.
One streak landed right in front of Lin Xin.
Bang.
The ground suddenly had a small crater, and the sod was splattered.
Lin Xin was also startled as the mere airstreams generated by the opponent’s spin faintly hinted at power surpassing that of the Innate realm.
Whoosh!
The pursued woman made a Hand Decision and, out of thin air, shot out a pure white ice ball. The ice ball, the size of a human head, bristling with spikes, and spinning rapidly, charged towards the Tall People Country man.
Bang!
Upon collision, the ice ball shattered, and the woman grunted as she spat out blood, her face showing terror as she turned and fled.
"Foundation Establishment Stage!! Run!!"
The other person didn’t even bother to reply and simply turned his head and ran.
Lin Xin was greatly shocked upon hearing this, and seeing that the group from the Tall People Country was now glaring at him with fierce eyes, he immediately started to run for his life as well.
Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh...
The redhead from the Tall People Country was spinning rapidly, catching up with the woman like a tire or a fan.
"Coming to our Tall People Country to steal a secret treasure and you think you can just run away? Is anything that easy in this world?"
He spoke a language Lin Xin could understand, albeit strangely accented and somewhat stilted, but still comprehensible.
As the redhead spun, he charged viciously towards the woman, his limbs alternately striking the fiery red Spiritual Light that shielded her back.
Puff, puff, puff!
After several hits, the Spiritual Light suddenly shattered, and the woman retaliated with a palm strike, her body surging with red Spiritual Light, vaguely carrying the sound of wind and thunder.
"Thunder Sound Palm? Just a mere Qi Refinement!" scoffed the redhead from Tall People Country, not dodging in the least and colliding head-on.
"It’s no use! Foundation Establishment has Innate Spiritual Light Body Protection, we won’t win, go!!" At that moment, the man scattered a handful of white light sand, and his body instantly vanished.
The woman grunted, sent flying by the redhead who resolutely took the blow, dropping the bundle she was carrying.
But it seemed that none of them cared about the bundle as they all continued their chase, leaving the area. With no more Tall People Country pursuers near Lin Xin, it took less than half a minute for him to see the man and woman being chased off into the distance.
Lin Xin, with his keen eyes, noticed the Demon Talisman Seeds spilling out from the bundle—there were four of them! His heart stirred, and he dashed straight for the bundle.
"Another one... shorty!" Suddenly, a blade’s gleam sliced towards him from the side.
Lin Xin instinctively drew his sword and blocked fiercely.
Bang!
He staggered back more than ten steps, suddenly feeling a cold, needle-thin Inner Qi from the opponent’s blade penetrate his sword and quickly enter his palm and meridians.
This Inner Qi was incredibly pure and vibrated with a life-like vitality that broke through his defenses upon entering his body, dispersing all the obstructing Inner Qi.
"Not good!" Lin Xin panicked, using Innate Qi to form a barrier against this stream of Inner Qi.
A wall of Seventh Layer Innate Qi firmly stood in the way of the Inner Qi stream.
Puff, puff, puff...
Unable to help it, he spat out three mouthfuls of blood. The Innate Qi was shattered several times before it finally managed to eliminate the stream of Inner Qi.
Before he could even catch his breath,
Lin Xin saw another white blade light flying towards him.
There was no one handling the blade, it was as if alive, spinning in the air on its own and slashing down fiercely.
"Controlling a Magic Artifact! It’s Qi Refinement!" His mind shook, knowing that his opponent must be a Qi Refinement stage cultivator.
The Spiritual Light Shield on his body activated instantly, and a layer of white light appeared in front of him, as he drew the Solar Yang Talisman Sword with his Inner Qi and the Luminous Talisman Sword with his other hand.
"Yuan Yang’s essence!"
He went all out!
This time he didn’t hold back at all, using every card at his disposal.(To be continued. If you like this work, you are welcome to vote for recommendation tickets and monthly tickets at QiDian (qidian.com). Your support is my greatest motivation. Mobile users please visit m.qidian.com to read.)
