Chapter 98: Lashing Out

Leander walked up the stairs. He did not see Lionel or Viviana in the living room where his guest should be. He was told Lionel was upstairs and already he had a bad feeling about it.

He did not think that they were doing something bad, but he did not like that Lionel is already taken to the second floor which is his private space.

What have you done mousy?

He skipped the stairs and got to the second floor. There was no sound from there which made his heart sink but when he got up his lips curved seeing the seating arrangement.

Her seat was far inside their bedroom while Lionel was sitting on the hallways. But the mood there...

She stood up, her face was expressionless. No, she had her usual expression on—one that would make him irked and hurt at the same time. Lionel was leaning with his eyes closed.

What happened here?

"Welcome back," Viviana tried to smile. But she couldn’t. She felt emotionally paralyzed. She didn’t have the energy to smile.

Leander nodded at her. "Nellie," he patted Lionel’s shoulder.

Lionel waved his hand. He could see that Lionel is not in a good mood either. He did not find the situation good. Seeing this heavy atmosphere did something to him.

Viviana held her breath seeing Leander’s face turning stiff. He entered the room gesturing for her to follow him. She walked behind him. As usual, he handed over his jacket and his jewelry before locking the door. He watched silently as she replaced them.

Viviana could sense that he is not in a good mood. She figured that he might have told his grandfather about her infertility. And he must be waiting for his chance to kill her.

She did ask him to kill her. And she is not going to hold it against him. But...

"Can I have some time. I need to finish the story I was telling Mr. Yannis," she said.

Leander glared at her. She wants to be with Lionel more. He’s back, and she wants to be with Lionel. He is her husband and she wants to be with another guy and she dares to ask her husband that she wants to be with another guy.

Hasn’t she gotten too brazen?

"Story?" he asked. How important is that story for her? Or is it Lionel who is important?

"Yes, I was... Mr. Yannis asked me if I had a story for him. I did and I was telling him the story..." She waited for his reaction.

Leander stared at her. So, she was telling him a story? What kind of story? Why isn’t she telling me any stories?

"Why are you sitting in the bedroom if you’re just telling him a story? Is that a secret story only he should know?" he asked.

The corners of his lips flinched as he controlled his anger. He couldn’t accept that she is already this close with Lionel.

Viviana gulped. She knew he would get mad at her for letting Lionel near his room. But she tried her best. "I tried my best not to leave the room and not let him inside the room."

"Oh?" he snorted. "Is that story that important? Or did he say that he has no stories left to say and asked for your help? And so, you, with your bleeding sainthood heart decided to help poor Lionel? And... who told you that you can’t leave the room? There is my study in this floor. Katerina would have shown you the room," he tilted his head and took a step forward.

"Uh..." Viviana walked backwards as he moved forward.

She didn’t know why she was scared. He asked a lot of questions and her brain froze.

"I called for Katerina and she was not here. The room was locked and I~" She stopped as her back hit the wall.

"Locked?" Leander furrowed his brows.

The room wouldn’t have been locked. He did not like that she started lying to him.

"Did you check?" he asked leaning to her face. "Today? The door was locked, today? Answer me!"

Viviana whimpered hearing his shout. She held her breath to stop herself from crying.

"You’ve started to lie to me now, haven’t you?" he placed his hands beside her neck, pinning her to the wall.

"Lie?" Viviana looked at him. His breaths were hot and his nose was flaring. He was very mad. She didn’t know why he was this mad just because she wanted to tell a story.

But then she realized. He was asking about the story. He didn’t believe that she was telling a story. He must have thought that she was asking Lionel to rescue her. That’s why he was asking if it was a secret.

She met his angry eyes and all the emotions she had were pushed to the back as anger took the reins. His nose was almost touching her nose and he was bending to her level as he pinned her to the wall. As her chest heaved, her shoulders grazed on his forearm.

"I was the one who asked you kill me. I meant it. Why would I ask your friend to rescue me? I know you are in a hurry to kill me but all I ask for is ten more minutes. I just want to finish my story!!!"

She screamed the last sentence like a toddler throwing a tantrum.

Leander’s face went blank. He didn’t know why she brings up the stupid request she made. He didn’t even think about that. Where did she make the connection?

And then it hit him. She does not have to make any connections. This is her belief.

She could have fun with Lionel. She could tell Lionel stories and laugh with him.

But she asks him—her husband—to kill her. That’s all she thinks of him—a killer.

It’s not untrue. Everyone thinks of him as a killer. He is a killer. But how can she think the same?

She is family.

He thought a lot has changed between them. She was acting cutely when she dried his hair and she enjoyed the kisses. But she does not kiss him because she likes it. She lets him kiss her because she thinks she have to.

She still thinks that she is locked in. She hasn’t accepted that she is his wife. That’s why it was easy for her to ask him to kill her.

What was he even thinking?

She will never love him!

He thought that he can accept it when he saw her in pain. He thought her pain forbids her from being happy. But she can be happy with others. It’s only him she couldn’t accept.

She hates me. Only me...
