Chapter 73: His Wife’s Pride

Chapter 73: His Wife’s Pride

"I don’t know, grandpa! Bow many times should I tell you" Evander raised his voice as he lost his patience. "He took his wife and left. But he returned and shot Paul in the face for no reason."

Peter banged the table and Viola winced and pressed her back to the wall.

"No reason?" Peter shouted. "Since when did Leander do anything for no reason? Did he kill my aide for no reason? And he did that to your face?" Peter pointed at Viola.

He knew how much Leander respects his mother. For him to scare Viola like that... It’s impossible!

"He must have lost his mind, grandpa," Evander stepped closer to Peter. Now would be the time for him to turn his grandfather’s heart toward him. Leander gave him the chance just like he predicted. "You saw how he~"

"How long are you going to protect your little brother?" Viola stepped to the front. She didn’t think that talking bad about Leander directly to the don would do any good right now.

As the only viable heir, Leander has a stronghold in the family. He cannot be shaken by one strike. Leander acted pretty well with Peter, so he trusts him. There is only one way to shake the foundation of the trust Peter has for Leander.

By making Peter hate the one person Leander loves.

"He did not like that we followed..." she paused as the door opened.

It was Barnabas.

"He was with us too," Viola pointed at Barnabas. She hoped that he speaks the truth. "We just wanted to make sure that we follow all the traditions of the Kastello family. Leander allowed it too. But then, I don’t know what that girl said to him as they got down the stairs that made Leander mad that he..." Viola looked pitifully at Barnabas.

"What tradition?" Peter asked. He thought everything was settled with Leander’s flash marriage. What tradition did they miss?

"You didn’t ask Viola to see through the completion of the wedding ceremony?" Barnabas asked.

He is no fool. He is not going to get on the wrong side of Leander. And no matter what he does, Peter is not going to blame Leander when he is doing what Peter wants him to do. He is making the heirs of the Kastello family.

Viola clenched her chest. Why did she even think that Barnabas would be on her side? Evander scoffed and took a step back.

Peter grunted and sat on his seat. He was in deep thought, and he didn’t appear to be mad. Even Barnabas could not figure out what Peter was planning.

So, Viola continued not minding Evander who was trying to stop her. She needed to get it out of her chest.

"She is not suitable for our family, don. She is poisoning Leander’s mind against us already. Just how many times did he defy your orders yesterday? She is the root cause. And he even went as far as to kill your aide just because he was following tradition."

Peter scratched his chin. He didn’t say anything for some time. He then looked at Barnabas. "He let Paul check her and then he shot him?" he asked.

The entire room went silent hearing the distinct knock of Leander. Viola scurried and stood close to Evander. Evander made sure that his gun is easily accessible. If Leander starts any trouble, he was willing to shoot him.

"Get in!" Peter gave Leander permission to enter.

Leander walked in. His walk didn’t waver seeing everyone gathered. He did expect them all here first thing in the morning discussing about his punishment.

"Good morning, grandpa," Leander walked to Peter and kissed his ring.

"Be well, boy," Peter patted his head.

Without Peter asking for anything, Leander gave the explanation.

"My wife was sleeping, grandpa. I didn’t know about the tradition, and I didn’t warn her about that. Paul and mom entered the room when I was in the bathroom. She woke up startled and... Paul shouldn’t have tried to strip her naked right in front of me. And everyone..."

Clenching his jaws, he looked around the room, meeting the eyes of everyone.

"They shouldn’t have watched her getting stripped."

Leander cleared his throat and stood straight. His entire demeanor exuded dominance. He showed them that he was not here to apologize and that he never will apologize for what he did.

He protected his wife, as he must. Why should he apologize?

Peter looked at Viola. "You didn’t knock the door?" he asked.

"I..." Viola gulped. She couldn’t believe that her youngest son who would do anything for her acting this way toward her. How can a person change this much in just a day? Did he ever love her? How could he easily throw her under the bus?

"I did. But no one answered and so using the master key, Paul and I..."

"That’s enough! Paul was not needed even if you wanted to follow tradition!" Peter slammed the table. He remembered it was some old lady who carried out the tradition on his wedding night.

Which red-blooded man would allow another man look at his wife’s privates? Viola purposefully tried to create trouble and he lost his aide for her schemes.

"Get out!" he shouted at Viola. "Take your eldest son with you!"

"That’s it?" Evander could not believe what he was seeing. "He killed your aide and~"

"Get out!" Peter shouted.

Viola pulled Evander and dashed out of the room.

Peter sighed looking at the closed door. Barnabas took his seat by Peter’s side. Leander looked at his grandfather. Peter met with his eyes. His face twitched in anger.

"Leander, remember this," Peter spoke swallowing his anger. "If you kill him," he pointed at Barnabas. "Or even if you kill me... You will be the one sitting on this seat," he patted the armrest of his chair.

Leander pressed his lips. "I will never ever think of killing you, grandpa." He spoke in a low tone.

"I know." Peter nodded. That is the only thing he is sure of. "And my decision is not going to change. So don’t think going to extremes will change my mind."

Leander curled his lips as he didn’t want to hear how fixated his grandfather is on making him the heir.

"Don’t use your wife as an excuse. You know how your mother is," Peter added.

Leander let out a disgruntled grunt and bowed his head.

"Go! Stay home for some days. Plan for a honeymoon if you want. And don’t let your mother deter you from bringing your wife to meet me. Bring her here for lunch often," he said.

"I’m sorry, grandpa," Leander looked at his grandfather. In his intense eyes, there was no hesitation.

"My wife will never step foot inside this house where she was mistreated."

He might hurt his grandfather by saying this, but his dignity and pride are tied to how his wife is treated. He might let go of his pride and visit here for the sake of his grandfather. But she does not have to.

Peter cleared his throat and looked at Barnabas.
