Chapter 71: His Choice

Chapter 71: His Choice

Leander could see that she was shivering.

"Are you cold?" he reached for her.

She jumped in fright and stepped backward. "I’m fine," she said. She didn’t even bother to smile or look at him.

Leander didn’t know what to say to her. She was overreacting. Nothing has gone wrong. He came to her at the right time. But she is still scared. What can he do?

He covered her shoulders with his jacket. She was bowing her head avoiding to look at him. That hurt him.

His mother shouldn’t have barged into his room like that.

"Look," he grabbed her shoulders. "You are my wife!" he said.

I will protect you.

She looked at him gingerly and nodded. She still didn’t look very convinced. That did not make him feel good at all. He didn’t know what else he could do to convince her that she won’t be in danger. His felt helpless in front of her. He did not like the feeling at all.

Why can’t she trust him more?

But she called him by his name for the first time when he was in the shower. Till then she only called him by his surname. His heart filled with warmth remembering her shout.

When she held his jacket to her chest in a tight embrace, he melted.

She’s adorable.

Clenching her jaws, Viviana tried not to hear what those men were sneering about. She had a feeling that she is the subject of the sneers. If she hears them, she won’t be able to bear them. She decided not to hear them.

As for Leander, she didn’t know why he says that she is his wife. Maybe he considers her as his property?

Whatever the case is, he is at least he is putting up the front that he will protect her. She was thankful for that.

Leander walked behind her. But she didn’t have the guts to step out of the room. Leander placed his hand behind her back and pushed her out of the room.

Leander who was not listening to what his brother and Barnabas were discussing with Paul, started listening only then. He couldn’t hear everything, but he heard distinct words like ’virgin’ and other not-so-nice words. His mother was in the group too.

Leander glared at them. They stopped for a moment before Evander asked Paul if he was sure that the consummation did happen. Apparently, for Evander, they didn’t look like a couple who just had sex.

Barnabas flinched seeing Leander and he didn’t stay with Evander as Paul answered him. He knew Evander is crossing the line. He wanted no part in it.

"You’re leaving at this time of the night?" Barnabas asked. "Is she feeling uncomfortable here?" he looked at Viviana.

Although he tried to control his lust, he ended up leering at her. She was a virgin and that was the allure she had. He regretted not taking her first.

Leander noticed Barnabas’ look and turned his attention toward Viviana. She was bowing her head as if she was the convict brought to a trial. She was clutching his jacket so hard that he saw hate and embarrassment on her face.

He did not like that at all.

"Pfft," Evander’s sneering laugh turned Leander’s attention towards him.

"Where did you find a virgin for yourself, Leander?" Evander sneered. "I even doubted if you were protecting my attacker," Evander leaned on the wall and looked at Leander with a smirk.

His mother told him that she didn’t have a birthmark on her chest. That means that the woman is a different one.

Viola playfully hit Leander’s shoulder. "Don’t mock your brother like that. Look... He’s shy..."

Leander held Viviana’s hand and got down the stairs.

It’s not the first time his brother is taking a jibe at him. But he did not like that he is involving his wife in his mockery. No, not good. Certainly not if it was by Evander. And why is Barnabas looking at her like that right in front of him as if he was invisible?

"Steve, bring my wife to the car," he commanded him.

Viviana heard what Leander said and she didn’t know why she grabbed his hand tighter. She did not want to let go of his hand. She was afraid to let go.

Leander’s lips curved unconsciously. That little squeeze of her hand felt like the bloom of a thousand spring flowers for him. The more she depends on him, his protective instinct towards her doubles each time.

"I’ll be back," Leander kissed her head and softly rubbed her back. "Steve will take you right to the car."

"Steve, do not stop for anyone. I’ll be there within a minute," Leander told Steve.

Steve nodded.

Viviana followed Steve. Right as she stepped out of the main door, Leander got on the stairs. His walk was not hurried. On the way, he pulled out his gun and attached the suppressor to the barrel of the gun.

Paul and Viola peeked down the stairs hearing him. Before they could react, Leander pointed the gun at Paul. With no hesitation, he pulled the trigger.

*Phew*

Just one shot. The bullet passed between his eyes and exited the back of his head, splattering brain matter on Viola’s face. Viola was too shocked to move. Paul’s dead body slumped at the edge of the stairs. Leander smirked as he heard a set of footsteps rushing away.

Evander... whenever a gun goes off, all his dear brother knows is to run and hide.

"I’ll talk to the don in the morning, mother," he said with a slight bow.

Viola was looking at him with a disapproving scowl. With the splotches of red matter on her face, her scowling face made her appear like a monster. He did think for a fraction of a second if he must frighten his mother, but now he got the answer.

That’s the face his mother is going to make no matter what he does! Unlike, that little mouse whose face is filled with a thousand expressions for him.

So, why must he bother about his mother anymore, right?

And they all should know the limit.

She is his limit.

He removed the suppressor from the barrel and placing the gun back in the holster, walked down the stairs. That little mouse will be waiting for him.

He knew what he did. He killed a loyal servant of his grandfather. That is not going to go well with his grandfather. But Paul shouldn’t have dared to enter his bedroom and strip his wife naked.

He’ll face his grandfather in the morning. If his grandfather wants to take back his crown, he’d gladly return it.

He just wanted to be left alone in peace!
