Chapter 60: In the Eyes of a Vile Man

Peter smiled at Leander.

"The Young Lion of the Kastello family...Isn’t he perfect for succeeding me?" Peter smirked, his pride oozing out through every pore in his body as he patted Leander’s back. "He’s going to be tough for you all to deal with. He’s like me!"

"What are you saying? He’s still wet behind the ears!" one of the old guys shouted. Some joined him in a chortle.

Nicholai Palatini swallowed an entire glass of scotch and leaned to Helena. "Regretting your decision now?" he sneered placing his hand on her waist. "Should I divorce you? Come on, be honest. You’d rather be with him, won’t you? He too is the heir now..." he pinched her waist hard.

"N~o," Helena squirmed in her seat unable to bear with the pain. "I don’t want to get divorced."

"Why?"

Nicholai’s alcohol filled breath made Helena squirm more. Along with her morning sickness, his breath made her chest burn. She twisted her body to get out of his hold.

Nicholai let her be and sneered at her.

Viviana noticed the interaction between Helena and her husband. Although she didn’t hear what was said, she could sense that the interaction left Helena hurt. She felt sorry for her.

But then she sighed. She is not in a position to feel sorry for anyone. She herself is in a sorry state.

She looked at Leander. She hoped that Leander didn’t notice the interaction between his first love and her husband. It would hurt him to see his first love living an unhappy life.

Leander seemed to be in shock. His eyes were on his grandfather who was fluttering from table to table bragging about his heir and warning them against the Kastello family. He was maintaining his happy appearance for the whole time.

Leander tried to approach Viola, but she stormed off the hall with Evander. Lionel joined them in their table and took Evander’s seat.

Viviana didn’t raise her head afterward. It’s not worth dying in this place.

Dinner was served and Viviana didn’t know how the waiter knew to serve her seafood dishes. As someone who grew up in a coastal town, she loved seafood.

Maybe everyone is having seafood?

She looked around.

But no, most of them were having chicken as appetizer and steak/duck as main dish. As far as she could see, only she was having seafood dishes.

Whatever!

She didn’t raise her head up and finished her dinner. She was feeling so weak and giddy after being stressed for hours together. She needed food.

Leander smiled seeing her finishing up her dishes. He noticed when they eat together that she eats a bit more if she’s served seafood. When he saw fresh fish in the kitchen, he asked them to prepare seafood for her.

Look at that smile... this woman is going to be the end of me.

Leander smiled. Nothing went according to his plan that day. But seeing her eat well made his heart rest.

Ah... wife... she is my wife now.

He didn’t know why that thought made his heart race.

Viola joined them at the table mid dinner. She didn’t say a word too. Peter and Lionel conversed a lot. Viviana didn’t look at them, but she could not hide her smile at times when Lionel softly jibed Peter. Peter couldn’t say anything back and could only laugh it off as it was not offensive. Evander never returned.

The dinner was finished and the flow of liquor started. The men started chatting and the women formed their little chat groups too.

Viviana was very much interested in knowing more about Helena. Helena’s eyes were on Leander. Viviana wanted to know if Leander needs help meeting Helena in secret.

It would be like a secret mission and entertaining.

Before she could talk to Leander about it, Lionel dragged Leander to the side. Viviana was left alone. No one approached her and she preferred it that way.

Helena too was surrounded by a bunch of women, including Nadia and they all were whispering something, pitying, and some were angry. Some occasionally glanced at her.

Viviana grew up with a bunch of girls. Although she loved them all the same, she knew how nasty girls can get if they perceived someone as their enemy and when they are in a group.

And right now, she is an enemy in their book because of the Kastello brothers and their agendas.

Sigh!

Viola approached her and she tried to run away to balcony. Maybe she should escape. But Viola blocked her.

"You finally got what you wanted to achieve..." Viola gritted her teeth.

Peter glanced at her from the distance. But rather than interfering he decided to be an observer. Viviana sensed danger in his eyes. She felt watched.

And the man beside him... She bowed her head so not to show her true feelings on her face. She fisted and released her hands to not look at that man again. That man is still alive and well, but Elisa... It enraged her.

"I...I don’t know what you~"

"Like hell you don’t!" Viola screamed at her and Viviana pretended to flinch.

Viola alone is not dangerous. It’s when Leander steps in, it would get dangerous for her. She didn’t find any respect for Viola in her heart maybe because she didn’t respect her motherhood.

She was given abundant blessings in the form of two sons. And yet she treats them both differently. That’s a bad woman in Viviana’s book.

But she pretended to be fearful of her to maintain her innocent look.

"She’s not bad, don’t you think? Looks obedient," Peter told Barnabas.

Barnabas nodded. "But why do you think both your grandsons want her that much?" he smirked.

Peter kicked Barnabas. "Don’t look at her that way, Barnabas. I don’t want you to create trouble... But what is so interesting about her? She looks so..." Peter observed Viviana.

"Exotic, don’t you think? She looks so familiar and yet so...unattainable..." Barnabas licked his lips.

He knew what is so attractive about her. It was Leander’s interest in her. When a man who is not shaken by any beauty falls for a plain looking woman, that woman’s value increases a hundred-fold because of intrigue.

There is a certain allure to the women who belong to other men.

Viola is old and she was not that special. She lied on the bed like a dead fish. But Leander’s wife is young. Not as young as he prefers but young indeed.

How will she taste like?

Peter hit him in the chest. "I won’t protect you this time, Barney. Even if Evander is involved, when Leander hunts you, I won’t hide you..."

"What are you saying, don? You know me," Barnabas tried to cajole Peter.

"Don’t think that I don’t know what you did with Viola. I let it happen because she needed a release to calm down. But she... don’t even bother her. She has a very short life line..." Peter said staring at Viviana.

"I won’t even think about her that way. I swear," Barnabas swore.

He cannot anger his provider.
