Chapter 33: Past Traumas and Future Troubles

"What do you want to say?" Viviana asked.

She wanted to find refuge in the bathroom but knew she could not hide there forever. Her heart pounded. She clutched her clothes tightly.

"Your..." Leander took a step forward.

"Just..." she made the "stop" hand gesture and took an unconscious step backward.

She scoffed mocking herself. She was the one who pledged to see his destruction and now she is acting all scared of him just because he...

"Your hair is dripping wet. You should dry it first," Leander said taking a step back. His voice cracked a bit as he could see that she was wary of him. It did not make him feel good at all.

"Nope," Viviana raised her chin and faced him. She cannot be scared of him. Once she overcomes the fear, she can endure anything he puts her through.

"It’ll dry on its own," she walked to the breakfast table. He wanted to have dinner with her, and she was starving after not eating for an entire day.

"But..." Leander sighed. Her hair is long and looked messy. How will it dry faster if she leaves it to air dry? Doesn’t she remember that she is unwell?

He wanted to insist on it. But he decided against it. She did say that she is not going to die until she sees the destruction of his family. So as long as he keeps his family safe, she will be safe too.

With a sigh, he joined her at the table. "Eat," he pointed at her plate. He asked the kitchen to make vegetable risotto for them. It would be easy to digest and good for the gut. She didn’t eat the entire day and he couldn’t eat either. And now he was hungry seeing her bright.

Viviana didn’t refuse him and started eating. Mainly, she was hungry. When she is hungry and she is offered food, she tends to not judge the food. Also, he wants to tell her something and he insinuates that he will tell her what he wants to say only after she eats. But what if he changes his mind and takes back his food? She cannot stay hungry.

After she finished half of her plate, Leander started eating too. He was relieved to see her eating. She finished her dinner within five minutes. She was not sparing any etiquette for him. He didn’t mind that. The way she gulped her food as if someone might steal it from her was odd considering she grew up in a loving family. But maybe she was hungry.

"Want seconds?" Leander asked.

"No. Can I have a glass of wine?" she asked. She was denied cigarettes and she wondered if she’d be given wine at least.

"You cannot drink wine with your antibiotics," Leander said.

"Okay," Viviana nodded.

Then give me my wine! She wanted to scream. If she can choose, she will choose wine over the medications. But she is not the one choosing here.

Leander expected some resistance from her. Even he didn’t like eating without wine. Wine is a staple in their meals, like water. But for her, he skipped wine. He knew it won’t be nice to drink wine in front of her as if he was teasing her.

Also, he was told to keep away from wine too. But he never listened to Nathaniel before. He drinks wine every day, for every meal.

Viviana waited until he finished eating. It looked like he was a slow eater—very slow. She wondered if this too was a part of the lifestyle of a wealthy guy along with having a complicated shower system.

She grew up fighting for food. If she doesn’t finish her plate within minutes, someone else will take her food. She shivered thinking of those days. That was a very long time ago. Those days were long gone and yet the scars of those days still remain.

Ugh!

She rubbed her forehead. From remembering her old name to thinking of the darkest days of her life... It’s odd she was reminiscing them all lately.

And whenever she remembered that darkest part of her life, she will remember Leo. Leo was the brightest light among them all. And there was him too- Father Flannagan. She wondered how that old priest is doing lately.

"Hey!" Leander called her. She looked fine for a moment and then she turned pale. Is she feeling sick?

"Yes," Viviana sat up straight. He had finished eating. "What did you want to say to me?

Leander had a lot to ask her. He wanted to talk about what happened in the morning. An apology is due. He wanted to tell her what his brother said. He wanted to know how she managed to get his brother’s d*ck.

But...

He lost his courage. Her eyes... they just scream at him. He couldn’t bear looking at them when he is feeling guilty.

"I’ve arranged for a beautician. He’ll come here tomorrow for a makeover. Your hair..." he pressed his lips.

He should prepare her for the dinner next week. If Evander is still doubting, he cannot keep her hidden. The best way to come out of this situation is to show her to Evander and make him accept that she is not Viviana Mattias who hurt him.

He had no hopes that this woman would cooperate with him. But he should try. He cannot give her up to Evander to have his way with her.

He thought that asking her to cut her hair would be easy. But even he didn’t want her to lose her long hair. And her natural hair color is perfect. He didn’t like to change the color either.

What can he do? She’s too perfect the way she is! But she needs to change her appearance!

Ah! But her eyes will give her out! She has the prettiest unique eyes...! What can I do?

"Makeover?" Viviana didn’t understand what he was saying.

She is his prisoner and he vowed to make her suffer. Now he wants to give her a makeover. What is that about?

And hair... IS HE GOING TO CHOP MY HAIR? He did "that" to me in the morning and now he wants to chop my hair?

She never liked the texture of her hair, that is true. But she liked her hair long. It’s been ages since she had short hair. She didn’t want to chop her hair.

Oh, no! Is he going to shave my head? That would be worse.

"Yes, a makeover. Next week, you will attend a party arranged by my grandfather with me," Leander said.

He wondered how she will react.

Viviana’s heart raced.

A party? What kind of party?

"Is your brother going to be there?" she asked.

Leander gulped. "Yes," he said the truth, nonetheless.

Viviana’s face paled. If Evander is going to be there, she could imagine what kind of party it will be.

"So will the other families," Leander added.

Viviana looked at him. She couldn’t hide her fear. She knew what "other families" meant. It would be the other mafia families in the country. And with all the terrible men of the country assembled, they will drink, sniff drugs, and have fun with women if they are not killing each other.

This guy... after doing what he did in the morning... Is he planning on passing me around with everyone else...?

"Okay," she said. She then curled up in the bed.

What else can she do?
