Chapter 327: Persistence

"Signora, I cannot..."

Luca stopped Viviana from getting inside the car.

"Martha, get in the car," Viviana walked past Luca.

"Please, Signora...Capo asked you to stay in the house today. You’re in danger. You shouldn’t leave, please...." Luca covered the handle of the door.

"Careful, Luca. You might hurt the baby. Move," Viviana stared at Luca as she stepped closer. She hugged the baby closer to her chest. "I want to buy some stuff for my daughter. That’s why I want to go to the city."

Luca gulped as he didn’t know how to stop her. He didn’t have the courage to even touch her hair. She’s Leander Kastello’s wife. No one can touch her even under his order.

Luca’s eyes brightened as he finally found a way. He pulled out his phone to dial Steve.

Viviana, with no hesitation, plucked the phone from his hand. Luca tried to grab it back but stopped when she stuffed his phone in her purse. He sighed loudly. "Signora..."

"Will you drive me, Luca?" Viviana raised her brows. "If you’re not, I can hire a cab. But who knows who will be the driver? He could be an undercover cop, or a member of the Palatini family or some other assassin hired to hurt me..." She shrugged.

Luca groaned in pain holding his stomach. He was in physical pain as his panic rose. He looked around to get help.

Martha gently held Viviana’s hand. "Signora, maybe we should...It’s capo’s order."

Viviana scoffed.

"Which one of you has the guts to manhandle me?" Viviana raised her voice. "The only way you can stop me is to manhandle me and lock me inside. I swear."

Everyone looked around and bowed their head. Who can do what she asks even when she asks for it? They would be punished for breaking Capo’s orders if anything bad happens to Signora. Capo’s orders didn’t state that they can do anything they can to stop Signora. So how can they stop Signora by force? Won’t they be killed by Capo if he learns that his staff hurt Signora?

What can they choose if they are in between a rock and a hard place? They can only choose the lesser evil.

Viviana sighed seeing Luca stepping away from the door. She was not happy to threaten her staff but she found it necessary. She couldn’t rest her heart. She needed to see Leander. He’s not answering her calls and this is the only solution she could think of.

"You coming?" Viviana asked Martha.

Martha nodded and got in the car first. Viviana got in and the car left Lemon Heights.

Viviana looked around. They were not followed. She didn’t know if the other staff would inform Leander before she even reaches there. She didn’t care. She’s seen the worst of him. She was not scared of him shouting.

She feared his silence though.

The car rushed to the city and Viviana closed her eyes. It would take almost five hours to get there if they make a non-stop journey. She needed to rest to face Leander. She could only relax after talking to him.

She saw some footprints on the balcony. Someone had jumped from the garden below into the balcony and entered the room through the balcony. And that same person must have been the one who changed the baby’s diaper and locked the bedroom door.

Who other than Leander would have the guts to enter her bedroom?

She was too confused. She inferred this much from the clues around. But the words she heard... Were those spoken, or was she dreaming? Why would Leander talk to her as if he was Leona? He knows how sensitive that topic is.

No... that part cannot be real. It must be a dream.

Viviana rubbed her palms which went cold. Whenever she thinks of Leona, she only remembers the fire, these days. Why would Leander come to visit her in the middle of the night and leave without telling her? What’s with the weird dream?

Watch over me... Leona said...

Viviana shivered.

Uh! Why did I drink?

Luca asked if they wanted to stop for lunch. But Viviana asked him not to stop until they reach the city. As they entered the city, Viviana decided to have lunch. The baby slept really well in the car. Transferring the baby to the stroller, Viviana and Martha went into the restaurant.

"Signora, this does not look so..." Luca tried to stop them because it looked like a normal restaurant. If they go further into the city, they can go to a nice restaurant.

Viviana didn’t mind it.

"My phone..." Luca scratched the back of his head.

Viviana pretended to not hear him and walked in. Martha could only sigh. They had a light lunch. The baby woke up and they fed her and allowed her to stretch herself.

It almost became four in the evening already.

"To the Orchid Gardens," she said.

Luca gulped. He looked for words to say to her but he knew she was not going to change her mind and whatever he says is meaningless. He opted to conserve his energy to apologize to Leander. He hoped Signora would talk to Capo on his behalf when he gets angry.

"Did Steve tell you if Leander was at Orchid Gardens last night?" Viviana asked. She wanted to know for sure if it was Leander. Steve would know.

"Signora..." Luca scratched his head. "Capo is not staying in the Orchid Gardens. He’s staying in a hotel these days..."

"Because of the work getting done there?" she asked. The repair work in Orchid Gardens must be the reason.

Luca didn’t answer.

"Right?" she asked again.

Luca cleared his throat. "I heard Capo visited the don in the hospital in the morning," he said hoping to change the topic.

Viviana leaned back. So, after seeing me, he went to see his grandfather...?

"How is he doing?" she asked.

"Not so well, Signora..." Luca sounded somber.

Viviana looked out of the window. She didn’t know if she should visit Peter.

*Screech*

The car came to a sudden halt and Viviana held the baby reflexively. Thankfully, the baby was still sleeping.

"Be careful," she looked to the front hearing Luca cuss.

"Oh, sh*t!" she groaned.

Martha too curled her lips. "What does she want?"
