Chapter 319: Connection
Chapter 319: Connection
Vito saw the desperation in her eyes. He didn’t know how she would react when she learns the truth. Leander asked him not to tell her the truth.
"Your husband didn’t want you to know," Vito said.
Viviana nodded. Her hands holding the baby started shaking. Vito didn’t give her a yes or no answer but she could guess the truth. Leander wouldn’t keep the truth from her unless he thought that the truth would hurt her.
She sucked in a deep breath.
Tabitha...
She remembered meeting her in the mall. The surprise on her face...
"She knows of me, doesn’t she? My...mother?"
It was hard for her to even mention her as "mother". It was just like she feared. Her mother chose to abandon her. Her mother had twins, looked at both of them and chose to throw the weak one away to die. She had the means to raise them both; to take care of her medical needs. But she decided not to. It rubbed salt in her wounds.
Her eyes stung as tears collected in her eyes, but then another thought popped in her mind.
What if she threw me away? I had the best life!
Her life was not perfect by any standards. But she got to know what true love is. Father Flannagan showed her love, then there were her parents. She got to enjoy the highest form of motherly love from her mother. Her mother loved her even though she was full of faults and was not hers by blood.
And now she has Leander. He’s shown her another epitome of love.
Why should she get sad thinking of a woman who threw her away?
"Are you okay?" Vito asked holding her hand.
"Yeah," Viviana nodded. "I’m fine, Dad."
She smiled from her heart seeing Vito struggling to kneel in front of her. She tried to get him to stand up but he shook his head. Holding her hand, he knelt by her side. She heard Leander in the living room. He must be almost finished with his phone call.
"Dad," Viviana leaned into Vito’s ear. "Leander need not know that I know," she said. "I am not sad. I have everything I need. I do not miss anyone or anything."
Vito smiled. "That’s the spirit. We do not need to beg others to take us," he patted her head. "Your husband will not know."
He meant that promise. The more he talked to his daughter, the more he was proud of her. He might have let her daughter know the truth breaking his word to Leander but he didn’t care. He was not someone who bothered with keeping his word.
But for his daughter, he will. She should have everything she wants and needs.
Viviana held the baby close to her chest. "I am not giving her up for anyone or anything," she said.
She didn’t want to ask for Vito’s help. She was just informing him. She cannot ask him to ignore his other daughter. But if he decided to support Helena with this, he will have to be fighting against her and her husband.
She will ask Leander for the baby. He’s the one who should decide. She didn’t know what he was thinking. He brought the baby to her. She didn’t know what he was thinking. But he will have to become the father of this baby. It’s his responsibility.
She will be the mother and he will be the father.
He will have to forget that this baby is his ex-lover’s. He will have to see this baby as their baby. Leander is the only one who can give her what she wants.
She knew one thing. Leander is not someone who listens to words and change his mind. It is her duty to somehow make him see Ziya as his daughter. She knew it is hard to get that connection with a child who is not your own. It takes a special kind of love to fall in love with someone else’s child.
She knew Leander had that heart. He has a gentle heart.
If it was anyone else’s baby, it would have been a lot easier for Leander. After the fuzz she caused after she saw him with Helena, he must feel guilty to accept Helena’s baby.
But thinking about it deeply, she realized something. Leander couldn’t bear to leave the baby after Helena didn’t want her. He could have handed over the baby to anyone without a single care. But he couldn’t do that. He carried the little baby with all her filth to his home, to her. He trusted that she would accept the baby.
Maybe he saw her in that little baby that her mother didn’t want. He couldn’t leave the baby.
Isn’t he a dear!
Viviana couldn’t help but smile.
"What’s going on here?" Leander entered the room.
Vito tried to stand up and Viviana helped him get up. Holding the baby in one arm, she helped Vito get up.
"I am complaining about you to my father," Viviana chuckled playfully. Vito joined her and patted Leander’s arms.
Leander pressed his lips. "Careful with your complaining. Too much complaints and your husband’s head might be sent to you on a silver platter!"
Viviana smiled and walked to him. "My father knows my life is tied to your heartbeat. So, don’t worry," she stood on her tiptoes and kissed him on the lips.
She patted his shoulder seeing him looking at her bewildered. She didn’t know why this is news for him. She wouldn’t be alive even for a moment without him. She patted his shoulder. "I’ll put Ziya to sleep..."
Leander watched her walk away. Rubbing his chest that hurt, he came to his seat.
Vito and Leander sat in silence for a while. They had nothing much to say to each other. Vito was pondering when he should bring up Leonardo with her. That guy caused so much scene when he said that he was going to meet her without him.
Viviana came downstairs after some minutes.
"Dad, you should stay for dinner. I’m not the greatest cook but, Leander likes my cooking so I would say that I’m not bad," she told Vito. "Are you allergic to anything? Do you like seafood? Should I avoid anything in your food?" She stacked her questions.
"No, anything is fine...Just add less salt," Vito said.
He didn’t care. He must have some dietary restrictions. He didn’t know any of that.
"It can’t be..." Viviana furrowed her brows. If he just had a surgery, there should be some dietary restrictions. How can he eat anything? "Never mind, I’ll ask the doctor." She rushed to the kitchen.
Vito watched her with a smile. He feared she’s be silent and reserved or filled with hate. Turns out, she’s so filled with love—a family person. Someone he could connect with instantly.
I have the perfect daughter!
