Chapter 312: Reckless Plan
Chapter 312: Reckless Plan
Lionel adjusted his cufflinks and looked at the dapper man sitting on the barstool beside him.
It has been a while since he has seen him. The last time they saw each other they had a heated discussion. He had avoided Leander till now mostly because he was busy.
He heard from Brie that a lot had happened. He had doubts regarding the "stillbirth" Helena suffered and the mysterious baby that appeared in Leander’s home. He didn’t have to be a genius to put two and two together.
He didn’t speak out his doubt till then. He had a feeling that Brie was keeping that doubt to herself too.
Could it be possible that the baby Bellissima has is Leander’s? He didn’t think so. He would have known if Leander had slept with a woman.
But who knows? Leander might have been holding a lot more surprises from him.
Why would he go bar hopping and getting drunk? This guy doesn’t like to drink. Why was he hellbent on hurting Bellissima when he knew how much he loved her? And the recent attack on him... Although word on the vine was that it was Vitale, he didn’t think it was Vitale’s doing.
Vitale doesn’t waste too many bullets without finishing the job. If Vitale wanted Leander dead, he will be dead.
The "disappearance" of Barnabas and the hospitalization of Peter Kastello confirmed that it was not the Vitale family. If the attack was not done by the Vitale family, then the intended victim of the attack was not Leander, but Bellissima.
He couldn’t figure out why Leander sent Viviana to Abenney. It’s been more than a week since she left. He’s not even rebuilding his damaged house and letting it go into ruins while she was thinking he was preparing to being her back.
He has no plans to bring her back.
What is he thinking?
"Which wind blows you here, Mr. Kastello?" Lionel asked taking a large gulp of cheap Vodka. He was here to think. He needed alcohol to think now that his little Brie is not near him.
It was obvious Leander was here to talk to him in this small unknown pub. This kind of low-level pub without any private rooms won’t interest Leander.
Leander wetted his lips swirling the whiskey glass. "I have a favor to ask of you."
Lionel placed his glass down and looked at the bartender. The bartender nodded and walked out. Lionel checked around once more. There was no one else.
"It is Helena’s baby, isn’t it?" Lionel asked. "Does Bellissima know?"
Leander shook his head. "She doesn’t have to."
"Why?" Lionel sighed. He hates Leander when he gives these types of answers. He can see that he was planning something. But Leander is the guy who could take his feelings and his secrets to the grave if no one pushes him to be open.
"You were right, Nellie," Leander emptied his glass. "My mother raised me as a girl and my grandfather killed my mother..."
Lionel sighed. He was not in a happy state to tell him ’I told you so’.
"She’s my angel, Nellie... And..."
Lionel looked at Leander as he went silent. He got scared seeing Leander’s reaction. He’s never seen such an expression on his face.
"She’s ashamed of me..."
Lionel didn’t think that Bellissima was ashamed of Leander. But he waited for Leander to speak further.
"Not of me, no... I can’t accuse that woman of that. She loves me too much to be ashamed of me. But... she is ashamed of what I do."
Lionel poured Leander another glass of whiskey. "She grew up differently."
"Yeah... those people screwed her mind... I wish... I wish she grew up with her father, then..."
"She’d probably have grown up more terrible than Leonardo...Conceited, deceitful, and cunning... You wouldn’t have liked her then," Lionel said. "She would have been the queen of crimes had Vitale raised her."
Leander rolled his eyes. "If Vitale treated his daughter the same."
Lionel agreed. Usually, daughters and sons are not raised the same way.
"It’s not about her being ashamed, right?" Lionel asked.
He didn’t feel that way. Leander also knows that she will love him no matter what. If that were the case, her feelings are not bothering Leander.
He is doubting himself.
Lionel was not that surprised. Leander always appeared decisive and motivated. But he knew. He was missing something in his soul deeply and to fill that hole, he made it his purpose to protect his family.
Now he found the missing part of his soul in his wife. His search was over.
Having fallen out of the feelings he had toward his family; he wouldn’t have much interest in the business he was doing.
"She told me that my mother wanted me to become a 9 to 5 office worker," Leander chuckled.
Lionel cringed. "You? An office worker? I can’t even imagine. They won’t let you wear all black. I can’t even imagine you as a CEO," he said. Leander looks perfect with his gun in his hand. "Private security, maybe?" Lionel laughed imagining Leander covering some guy as his bodyguard.
"You can wear black suits like you want to ..." Lionel continued laughing.
Leander let out a sigh. "Why would I run security for some coward?" Leander asked. He found that suggestion absurd.
"How else are you going to make an honest living?" Lionel asked. He truly was bewildered. "The Kastello wealth is enough for you to have a peaceful living. So, you don’t have to worry about looking for a~"
"About that..." Leander interjected him.
"Is this about the commission, Leo?" Lionel leaned closer to Leander. Leander looked like he wanted to tell him something.
"Yes, and... I need your help with something." Leander whispered.
"Anything for you, dear friend," Lionel pulled the barstool closer to Leander to listen to what he had to say. He will do anything for Leander.
Leander openly told him his plans.
"It’s bullshit, Leander. It’s..." Lionel stood up. "You cannot do that. Did you for a moment think about your wife? Do you know what it will do to her? You~"
"I know it will break her heart, Nellie. But I need to do this. Not just for her. But for me too..." Leander looked at Lionel pleadingly.
"They’ve already found Barnabas’ body, mangled by alligators. They are not announcing it. You know what it means, Nellie. They are going to come for me. The old details she sent to them, they have it now. They have me, Nellie. They have me. They would put me in the penitentiary and throw away the key. She’s been in Abenney for ten days now. She does not know. Now would be the perfect time to~"
"No!" Lionel gritted his teeth seeing Leander shrug casually. "Why did you come to me if you are not going to listen to me?"
"I came for her. Look after her when I am gone. I have a plan, Nellie. I will leave the country for some time and~"
"Some time? How long will that be? Weeks? Months? Years? Hell, ask Vitale’s help. Bring her with you wherever you go!" Lionel said banging his fists on the counter.
"I have to do it alone, Nellie. You know it." Leander said.
Lionel rubbed his forehead. "It’s too risky. You might die, you fool!"
"I won’t," Leander said. "I won’t die."
"You’re reckless!" Lionel shook his head. "Insufferable fool!"
Leander laughed.
