Chapter 303: The Traitor
Chapter 303: The Traitor
A couple of days passed.
There wasn’t much loss in their side. Some of the men were hurt but none of them were seriously wounded. The other side though... Viviana had no idea. No one talked to her about it.
Viviana also learned that the female staff were all given paid-off time that night and so none of them were home. Well, except for Mary.
Mary was not hurt. She was shaken and refused to talk to Viviana about it. But she was not physically hurt.
Steve told her that the cops were keen on entering the house to check if someone might be hiding. Leander had to put his foot down for them to leave.
Viviana didn’t know why the cops were so serious about getting the Kastello family now. For ages, they left them be. Even when they killed hundreds of children, no one bothered to investigate the family further.
For the cops to be this serious in investigating this issue, there must be some pressure from somewhere.
Could it be the Vitale family? But why?
Viviana’s thoughts were disturbed when Mary entered the kitchen.
Viviana had confined herself to the upstairs because of the dust as the rebuilding started. She made herself a makeshift kitchen in the torture room in the first floor. Leander had to clear that room for her kitchen. He didn’t even fight her. She asked that room for her kitchen and he did. She also added a dining table to that room. Leander’s been eating her cooking these days and she gladly cooked in addition to taking care of the baby.
He was still not talking to her like he usually did, but she could feel good vibes from him.
"What is it, Mary?" Viviana asked.
Mary was clutching her shirt and biting her lips.
"I want to quit," Mary said.
"Why?" Viviana asked. "Out of nowhere..." She was surprised.
Mary bowed her head as she was feeling guilty to face Viviana.
"Minerva, where is the~" Leander paused by the door seeing Mary inside.
Viviana was not surprised to see Leander’s smile reduced seeing Mary in there. He told her he didn’t like others in the house lately. That was a sudden change, but Viviana agreed with him on that.
She never got used to the horde of staff in the house.
"Mary wants to quit," Viviana told Leander.
Leander raised his brows. "Oh?" he smirked.
Mary bowed her head and she unconsciously moved away from Leander. Viviana didn’t notice the fear on Mary’s face. She was looking at Leander. He did look a little angry.
"Why?" Leander asked Viviana.
Viviana shrugged. "I was just asking her."
Leander turned to look at Mary. She bowed her head and took a step back.
"If she doesn’t want to work here, she should leave," Leander said.
Mary panicked. "Signora, I do not want to~"
"Wait..." Viviana stopped Mary. "The baby..." Viviana listened closely and the baby was crying. "One moment," she said and rushed out.
Mary tried to leave but Leander blocked her.
"You thought you could escape?" Leander asked.
Mary covered her mouth and started sobbing. "I’m sorry... I’m sorry...I didn’t mean to... I love Signora. I had no choice..."
Leander scowled seeing the ac Mary was putting up. He really thought it was Katerina who was leaking the details at first. But she never gave out important details, or she outright lied to them. His grandfather believes he lost a son and he truly believed it was Katerina who made him believe that.
But when other details got out, he knew that his grandfather had another informant from his house. He cooked up an elaborate plan.
"How did you even find out?" Mary asked. "They told me I would be safe as long as I..." Mary couldn’t finish the sentence and started to sob again.
She knew it. She knew she is dead. But she wanted to know where it all went wrong. She was able to fool everyone for so long.
"Why should I give you closure?" Leander leaned on the wall folding his arms. "You will not rest in peace, I assure you."
Mary kneeled on the floor.
Leander smirked. When his grandfather told him to be relieved because the baby his wife lost has Vitale’s blood, he knew who the mole was. He’s been planting various stories among the staff.
It is not a lie, right? His wife has Vitale’s blood and so her child will have a little Vitale blood. But when his grandfather looked at him "that" way, he almost snapped at his grandfather forgetting he was the one who spread that rumor.
And he recently learned that Mary managed to get the baby’s hair to Barnabas for them to run DNA tests. They are believing that the baby was Evander’s. Not even Melanie knows this.
Mary looked up. Her eyes were red and she took in a deep breath clutching her hands. It was as if she had come to terms with her fate.
"Tell them that we are coming to the Rose Gardens tonight as a surprise visit," Leander said.
Mary looked at him with shock apparent on her face. "You are not going to kill me now?" she asked.
Leander shrugged. He looked behind Mary. Mary turned out of instinct. It was Steve.
"Come on, let’s go," Steve grabbed Mary by the arm and dragged her down the stairs.
Leander looked at Mary and smirked seeing her fisted hand. He knew she still hasn’t learned her lesson.
He walked to the bedroom. Viviana was changing the diaper of the baby. By the looks of it, it looked like she has changed two diapers in such a short time. He could smell a funky smell in the room.
He curled his lips. Why would someone want to live like this?
But then he saw the smile on Viviana’s face. She was cooing the baby saying that the nasty poop ball did good by pooping a lot.
Like seriously? How is that an achievement? Is this what takes to be a baby these days? Just poop and get praised? Uh!
But... how pretty is her smile?
He ended up admiring his wife.
It won’t be bad to have a little one like her around...
"What?" Viviana turned. She could feel his stare on her for a long time.
Leander cleared his throat. He didn’t want to bring down the smile on her face. But he needed to.
"We are going to the Rose Gardens tonight for dinner with the baby. Be prepared," he said.
He expected her smile to disappear or a protest from her. But she kept on smiling. "To show your baby to your grandfather?" she asked.
Oh, how much he despised when she referred to that little annoying thing as "his"! But it is needed.
"I’ll get ready... And baby..." Viviana looked at the baby. "We cannot keep on calling her baby. We need to name her," she told Leander.
Leander grunted. "Do what you want," he said and walked out.
Viviana sighed. How come he can’t accept his baby? It’s not fair.
