Chapter 298: I Miss You

Leander decided to join her for dinner. He went downstairs but was disappointed to see the empty dining table. He heard her in the kitchen and he just wandered there without much thinking.

She was eating in the kitchen. Mary was holding the baby. Although she was eating, her entire focus was on the baby.

She was smiling when others looked at her but he knew her smile. She was not happy at all.

He stood there for almost a minute with no one noticing him. The women were gushing among themselves talking about the baby.

He cleared his throat.

The first one to look at him was Viviana. She paused for a moment before resuming. "Martha, go serve your Capo," Viviana said.

She didn’t want to ruin his appetite by being in front of him. He rarely eats at home these days.

"You’re not joining?" Leander asked.

Viviana’s heart skipped a beat. He said pretty hurtful words earlier and now acting like nothing has happened. She decided to go along. What was she going to do with her pride?

"I finished. If you want, I can serve you," she stood up. She did not feel like eating. But she had to eat because she was taking medications for endometriosis.

Just as she stood up, she felt something between her legs. Her periods must have arrived. She needed to change. She looked at Leander to see what he wanted to do.

Leander said nothing. She figured that he wants her to serve him. Wiping her hands and face, she walked to the kitchen door. He was still standing there.

She stopped and looked at him. He was looking at her. There was a layer of mist in his eyes. He put his hands in his pockets and she could see that his shoulders were stiff.

He didn’t look scary though. She thought he was cute. She thought maybe he was trying to be nice to her after being an a** earlier.

She wanted that to be the case, and so in her mind, she decided that was what he wanted to do.

What else can she do? She could only hold hope for him. She couldn’t accept that his love for her dwindled this soon. She just couldn’t fathom it.

She trusted his love for her that much.

Without saying anything, Leander walked to the dining table. She served him the food.

"You’re not cooking anymore?" he asked.

He did not look happy seeing the dish in front of him.

"Do you want me to?" she asked. She has stopped cooking ever since he stopped eating her cooking. She just got used to the food cooked by the chef these days. With training her dogs and other stuff, she didn’t have much time to cook either.

Her motivation to cook was seeing him relishing her cooking. Without that, she couldn’t find the motivation.

"No need," Leander said and started eating. "Sit," he said as she was standing by the wall.

"Will you excuse me for a second. I’ll have to go..." she smiled awkwardly.

Leander stared at her for a few seconds before nodding his head. She walked out of the dining room with her head bowed. She took a quick shower and changed before she got out.

She almost yelped seeing Leander standing by the bathroom door.

Does he want something?

She gulped. She accidentally wetted her hair while taking the shower. Water was dripping on her shoulders. She didn’t bring her hair towel to the bathroom and she wanted to take it out of the dresser.

But Leander was blocking the way.

Leander was trying to hold himself back badly. He could see that she was hurting and he wanted to console her. His heart was bubbling with joy as her words were still echoing in his mind.

He wanted to take her to bed and show her how much he loves her.

But he knew it would be hurting her more. She would think that he only likes to use her for s*x and then throw her away. He was struggling to keep his desires at bay.

But he couldn’t.

There was only little light in the room. She must have kept it down for the sleeping baby. Ah, the baby! He did not like to have the baby in there. She should not be sleeping with some baby. She should be sleeping with him!

He could see the little drops of water hanging by the tips of her hair. In the gentle warm light, they looked like golden pearls. She was just out of shower and smelled like flowers. He wanted to bury his lips in hers and himself inside her.

But he can’t...

But he wanted to...

If he wants to, what stops him? She still loves him!

Leander was fighting between his heart and mind. Before he knew it, he was staring at her.

"Sorry, my periods just started," Viviana smiled.

Her smile was much more awkward than the awkwardness hanging in the room. Leander was just staring at her and she didn’t know if there was something wrong with her face or something.

She wiped her face just in case.

She didn’t know why she talked about her period either. The light was behind him and she couldn’t see his face clearly.

"Oh...Oh?" Leander said.

He took a step back and tripped on the rug. Viviana held his hand to stop him from falling. He balanced himself. She knew he would have balanced himself on his own but she grabbed his hand out of instinct.

Holding his hand, she realized that it has been a while since she has held his hand.

The room was dim but it was brighter than her gloomy heart. The light kept her tears at bay, usually and the darkness brought it out. In that state where it was neither bright nor dark, she, overwhelmed by her sadness, let it all out and began to cry.

Bowing her head, she began to sob quietly.

"Oh, come on..."

She heard him say. He tried to get out of her hold but she held on to his hand as if her life depended on it.

"I can’t..." she heard his voice shake. "Not this..."

She let go of his hand. She didn’t want to discomfort him. She can cry alone. It’s not like she was not used to it. She was born to cry alone.

She thought he would leave. She waited for the ’bang’ of the door.

But she was enveloped with warmth. She was stunned. But soon she felt his big hand gently rubbing her back.

"Does it hurt?"

His voice was ever so gentle. Burying her face in his chest, she started to sob. She couldn’t think of any words to say. All she could do was cry.

I miss you, Leander.
