Chapter 295: He Was Sorry

Chapter 295: He Was Sorry

Leander came home and just at the same time, the crib arrived.

"What is this?" Leander asked Luca who was helping the ones bringing the box.

"It’s the crib for the baby. I ordered the Crib whimsical coach. They delivered it free of cost and they will install it free of cost too," Viviana answered. She was still holding the baby. She didn’t want to get her done.

She gets a little crazy when it comes to little babies. She was obsessed with them. And this one was particularly close to her heart.

She noticed that Leander was wearing a new suit and shoes. He had had a haircut and probably shaved at the salon. He looked bright and well-groomed.

Viviana thought he would leave again.

Leander looked at the size of the box and looked at the receipt. He raised his brows. Although Viviana made it seem like she was being frugal, she had spent a lot. It cost around sixty-five grand. Viviana never expected cribs could be this expensive. For that cost they should do everything.

She wanted to splurge for the baby.

Also, she wanted to test Leander. If he was not planning on keeping the baby, he wouldn’t like spending that much on a crib.

Or he wouldn’t care either way. Or he would get angry for wasting that much on a crib. She could have bought ten decent cars for that price.

He then handed the receipt to her. Viviana expected for him to look at the baby. But he avoided looking at the baby. "Which room would be better for the nursery?" she asked.

Leander looked at her for a good minute. "Do whatever you want to do," he said and walked upstairs.

Viviana bit her lips with contemplation. She set the guest room as nursery because she loved the layout of the room. Also, by sharing the room, she thought she could take care of the baby easily.

It’s not like she was allowed to share her husband’s bed!

The crib was set. She had to arrange her bed slightly to accommodate the crib. The room was a little crowded, but she was fine with it. She placed the baby in the crib.

The baby jerked lightly as she could feel the warmth leaving her.

"It’s okay... I’ll be right near you, little one... Don’t worry... I don’t know what happened to your mother. But I will do everything to make you comfortable... Do not think that you have no one, alright? You have me..."

She sat beside the crib and sand a song for the baby. She couldn’t help but smile looking at the baby. She’s such a hungry baby. She ate thrice already, and she sleeps so peacefully.

How did you end up here, little one?

She sighed and her smile vanished. She shivered remembering the baby’s state when she first saw her. She turned hearing something by the door. Through the gap, she could see it was Leander.

She walked to the door and Leander noticed her and tried to leave. She held his hand and pulled him in. He got out of her hold and walked to the bed.

"Want to look at the baby?" she held his hand and walked him to the crib.

He followed her without much protest. She knew anyone would want to have a look at their offspring. How would Leander be any different? He’s someone who values family so much. How will he abandon his daughter?

"She’s all cleaned up and looks cute in this onesie, isn’t she?" Viviana couldn’t help but smile. "Look at her little pout..." she gently caressed the baby.

The baby slept without any disturbance. It was as if she knew she was in safe hands.

Leander found his pleasure watching Viviana more than the baby. Steve told him that the entire house is believing that this one is his baby. His wife is believing the same too.

But how could she smile this purely at the child? Shouldn’t she hate the child her husband had with another woman?

Viola did! Viola hated him just because he was not her son. He understood her. But he couldn’t understand his wife.

Just how?

He looked at the baby. "The only apple that fell far from the tree," he mumbled.

"What?" Viviana looked at him. She heard him mumble apples or something. "You want an apple?" she asked. "Her cheeks are like apples, aren’t they?" Viviana couldn’t help but look at the baby once again.

"You are not pretending, are you?" Leander asked.

How can she be like this...? Does she not care about anything else? Is her wish for a baby supersede everything else? How can she be this...stupid?

"Pretending?" Viviana looked at Leander. Her smile vanished and her heart skipped a beat. "Why would I pretend? It’s a baby! Who can have any negative feelings for a newborn baby? There is nothing in this world more innocent and precious than a newborn...How could you..."

Before she knew it, tears gathered in her eyes. "Everything you’ve been saying, Leander... You have no idea how much you are hurting me. Do you not know me at all?"

Viviana tried to storm off the room. Leander stopped her. Holding her wrist, he pulled her into his embrace.

"I can see it, Lemon... But I cannot believe it. How can a woman like you exist?" Leander’s voice shook.

He’s been hurting her a lot lately. He knows she cries herself to sleep, and he lets her. He has no other choice. He needs to bring out certain truths. And like always, he will have to sacrifice his dear Lemon’s happiness.

He’s selfish. Yes, he is. He wants to live with her forever. He will do anything for that.

And about having negative feelings for a newborn... The one who gave birth to this baby didn’t even bother to look at it. She definitely hated the baby that came out of her womb.

But how can his wife be so much different? She makes his heart hurt by her kindness and love.

"She’s your baby, Leander..." Viviana pressed her face into his chest and hugged him tightly. It’s been a while since she had the chance to be this close to him. She was not going to waste this chance.

He even called her ’Lemon’ with the same gentleness of the past. She felt this one word was enough for her to be happy again.

"She’s a part of you. Even if I have a child of my own, I’ll still love her, Leander. Because I love you. I love all of you," she said.

Is it that hard a concept to understand?

Even if she had a little disappointment in her heart that Leander was that close with a woman enough to make her pregnant, and that woman got the chance to carry his baby while she couldn’t, Viviana didn’t find any reason to dwell on it.

It is what it is.

For the baby to be born now, it must have been conceived well before her wedding with Leander. He had a whole other life before he married her. She’s not a fool to not understand that.

The real question is...

"Will you tell me what happened to the mother? Will you let me raise your daughter, Leander? Please...?" Viviana asked.

She didn’t have the guts to look at his face, but she could sense his heartbeat racing. That was followed by a small wheeze in his chest.

Leander started shaking. Viviana tried to look at his face, but he held her closer.

"I’m sorry... I’m sorry..." He almost suffocated her with his tight hold.

He started sobbing.
