Chapter 286: Hurtful Words

That night, Viviana prepared dinner for them both. Leander had gone out and was yet to return. She didn’t think that he will eat with her and so she ate her fill first. She didn’t want to admit it but she was pretty mad at Leander and she didn’t want to look at him.

What did he mean by he was going to break her heart? Why would he want to hurt her intentionally?

Just as she finished eating, she heard Leander’s car. She stood up and cleared the table. She stood by the stairs and waited for him.

If he was drunk, he won’t eat.

She observed his walk. He was slightly tipsy. She clenched her hands to balls. She couldn’t understand why he must hurt himself by getting drunk every night.

He could break her heart without breaking his body, no?

She almost rushed to him when she saw him tripping on the door. But she didn’t want to set him off. He’s turning to a different guy when he’s drunk these days.

She decided to get to the bedroom, ignoring him. If he needs something, she can talk to him in the morning when he’s sober.

"Minnie," he called her.

Viviana stopped and looked at him.

"Here, take this," he offered her something.

She walked to him. It was plan-B pill box. Earlier when they were intimate, he didn’t use a condom. So he bothered to buy her plan-B pills.

But why would she need it? She wants to have a baby.

"You want me to take plan B?" she asked. "I am not taking it."

"It’s not an option," he said. "I’m not giving you a choice here."

His eyes were dull as he was intoxicated. His lips were parched with dehydration. His hair was messy. His shirt was scrunched so badly as if he rolled on the road.

Viviana gritted her teeth. He knows how much she wants a baby. Why would he force her to take the pill? There was already a very low probability that she would get pregnant. She was not going to take any chance with that chance.

She might have considered taking the pill if he explained to her why. He probably thinks that it was too early to get pregnant when she just had a miscarriage. He didn’t tell her that she had a miscarriage but he could have gave any excuse. She might have been convinced.

But he was telling her that she does not have a chance. It provoked her.

How can she not have a choice? She definitely has a choice.

"Okay," she got the pill box from his hands.

She did not like it. But she didn’t want to argue with a drunk guy at night when the staff are around. She will find ways to dispose of it.

"Katerina!" Leander shouted.

Viviana didn’t want to be there.

"Wait!" he stopped Viviana.

Katerina came from behind the stairs. Lately, all the staff are scared of Leander. The Orchid Gardens had devolved from how it was when she first came there—lifeless and filled with darkness and fear.

"Bring water," Leander commanded Katerina.

Katerina brought water.

Leander gestured for Viviana to get the water from Katerina and take the pill. Viviana was already running out of patience. The condescending way he acted toward her only made the thin string of patience break.

"I’m not going to take the pill," she threw the pill box on the floor.

Leander was not happy to see it. Katerina stepped back. Steve who was standing out till then stepped inside prepared to stop Leander if anything goes out of hand.

Leander picked up the box. Viviana didn’t want to stand there and decided to run away. She turned to get on the stairs, but she was stopped by a violent pull on her arm.

"I will never let you have my child!"

Leander screamed in her face.

Viviana’s heart pounded. Her ears started to ring. Looking into the dark eyes that were hostile and the mouth that spit venom, she was too stunned to react.

He knows how much of a touchy subject it was for her. And yet, he could easily say those hurtful words. He could have killed her before saying those words and she would have died peacefully in his arms.

For him to not want a child with her... What did she do that he hates her this much?

Her lips trembled; her throat hurt as she tried to swallow her emotions. "You’ve successfully broken my heart, Leander," she said.

His eyes widened. The corners of his lips that were curled with anger relaxed into a frown. As if he realized the weight of his words, he started to panic.

Viviana didn’t know what to do next. She’s faced a lot and she thought she had finally reached a place where she can be happy. But here he is, the only man she loved, decided to hack her heart with his sharp words.

Is this what he was thinking all this time? Was everything a lie? Did he ever love her?

She walked toward the door. She didn’t know what else to do. He hates her! Leander hates her! What can she do?

Katerina grabbed her. "Signora, please..." she stopped her from stepping out. "You cannot leave..."

"No one wants me, Katerina. No one...." Viviana couldn’t speak further as she choked with distress.

"Don’t say that, Signora. This house needs you... We all need you...You cannot leave. You cannot leave..." Katerina stressed.

Katerina couldn’t discern what was going on here. The couple never had such a serious fight. But Signora Kastello cannot leave. She is the lifeline of this house. She cannot leave. Even Leander won’t be able to handle her absence.

Mary and Martha came from the kitchen and they dragged her inside. Steve was stunned and he waited for Leander’s next move.

Viviana looked at the gloom around her. She didn’t even look at Leander. He hadn’t moved from the stairs. It was as if he didn’t care whether she stayed or not.

She walked to the guest room on the first floor and locked the door. Sitting on the bed, she stared at the door. She wanted to hear Leander’s voice from the other side asking her to open the door. She wanted to hear him say that he didn’t mean what he said; he slipped up.

But he never came to the room.

It was as if he meant what he said.

She curled up on the bed.

What will I do? What can I do?
