Chapter 277: The Daughter They Lost

Gabriella was silent.

"Am I being insensitive to you, Gabby?" Viviana asked. "I’ll stop talking. It’s just... I cannot talk about everything to everyone and I... Tell me if I am being insensitive..."

Viviana opened her heart. She loved Leander but he won’t understand half of what she feels. They grew up different and he’s a man. His experiences are entirely different.

Even though there are other women in the household, she didn’t feel comfortable opening up to them.

Gabby is different. But she can’t talk to Gabby about some stuff too. She was tired.

"You can talk to me, Melanie... It’s okay..." Gabriella said.

Viviana’s throat closed with emotions. "You’re the best, Gabby..."

Viviana talked to her for a while. She ended the call only when she heard Leander’s car in the driveway.

Leander looked very tired. She feared that Peter gave her a hard time to him for causing a scene at the funeral. She also wondered how Peter handled Leander lying to him about her parents.

She is not Russo’s daughter as Peter thinks.

Leander looked pitiful. She didn’t ask him anything. He went upstairs without even realizing that she was in the dining room.

She owed him to the bedroom.

"You’re not sleeping?" he asked.

"I was... Not feeling like it..." she said. She didn’t want to tell him that she was waiting for him. She didn’t want him to return home without finishing his work in the future.

"Shower or bath?" she asked.

Leander’s eyes ended up on her abdomen. His lips pressed with disappointment.

"Shower," he said. She won’t be able to join him for a bath yet.

Viviana prepared everything for him. He showered and changed. After a long while, he came to her with the towel to dry his hair.

Viviana did it with glee. She loved to pamper him like this.

As she combed his hair, he pulled her into a hug.

"You’re not going to ask me?" he asked.

A lot happened that day. But Viviana could only think of only one question.

"Is he really my brother?" she asked.

Leander nodded. "He didn’t have a reason to lie about it."

"His mother is not my mother, is she?" she asked. She knew but she wanted to confirm.

"No," Leander pulled her to sit on his lap. "Do you want to know who your mother is?"

Viviana hugged him around his neck and leaned on his shoulder. As he patted her back, she thought about it.

"Do you know who she is?" she asked.

"I can find out," Leander said.

He wanted to know if she definitely wanted to know. He preferred if she does not. But if she wants to, it’s not hard for her to find out. He’d prefer if she learns it from him than from others.

Viviana thought about it. No matter what, she is an illegitimate child of Vito Vitale.

"Why does he care about his illegitimate sister?" she asked.

Shouldn’t he hate her by default?

"It is weird, isn’t it?" Leander let out a deep breath. "If you see a Bentley with plate number 9, it would be him. Talk to him," Leander said.

That guy nagged him to take him to Orchid Gardens. Leander had to escape his clutches to get home. He won’t rest. He will definitely find a way to come here even if he was not invited.

"Shall we go to sleep?" Leander asked. "Warm shower does wonders...."

"You’re not eating? Viviana asked. Her eyes widened as she prepared dinner for him.

"Did you cook?" Leander asked.

He smiled seeing her nod.

Her eyes were round like eggs. It was obvious she wants him to eat because he cooked for her.

"Let’s go," Leander chuckled.

Both of them went to the dining room to have dinner.

"Donatello’s daughter contracted some autoimmune disease. They say she won’t survive," Leander said.

"Autoimmune disease?" Viviana raised her brows. "Are they calling poisoning autoimmune diseases these days?"

As if Nadia contracted a disease right in front of her.

"Look at you..." Leander smirked.

She has changed a lot.

"Nathaniel will come for a visit tomorrow," Leander held her hand. Nathaniel told him that they lost a girl. He couldn’t even find the guts to come home.

A daughter...

She would have looked like her... Maybe her eyes, or her smile... Or her beautiful hair... Would she have her mother’s temper?

His wife would have been the best mother. She would have treasured their daughter and taught her good values.

But she’s gone... No one will know how she would have grown up. Who’d she become?

She’s lost... Lost...

"Leander!"

Viviana gripped his hand hard. She sent away all the staff.

"Leander, you are crying!"

Viviana’s heart clenched with pain. He started crying out of nowhere. She’s never seen him cry.

"What’s wrong? Tell me..." She held his cheeks and wiped his tears.

"It’s..." Leander sniffed and stood up.

Viviana didn’t want to discuss it further on the first floor. She decided to take it to their bedroom.

After clearing the kitchen, she went upstairs hurriedly. She wondered if he’d be composed enough to talk to her or if he’d be too composed to not talk to her about it.

She entered the bedrooms and locked the door. Leander was sitting on the bed. She sat beside him and stared at him to observe his mood.

"What?" he pulled her into his embrace. He didn’t know what got to him.

Maybe he was affected differently by the news of the miscarriage. He thought he was only worried for Minerva’s wellbeing. But he was mourning the loss of his daughter too without even realizing it.

They lost their daughter. And it hurts...

He almost told her the truth. But he was glad he pushed through. She doesn’t have to know. She doesn’t have to endure the pain he is suffering. She’d suffered enough.

"I love you so much, Leander," she kissed him.

She didn’t know what else to say when he was not telling her what made him cry. But whatever it was, it would really help him to know that she loves him.

"Hmm..." he kissed her head. "Me too, Minnie..."

She stayed in his embrace for some time.

"Minnie, you were right..." he said.

Again...

I do want a child to raise with you...
