Chapter 260: His True Heart

Chapter 260: His True Heart

Viviana walked through the hilly road with the sound of the waves crashing on the rocks to her side. She decided to take the scenic route to have rational pondering.

For some reason, her brain which would not stop being loud, became so silent that she got scared. She did not like the bitterness that was brewing in her heart.

Even the thought of Leander made her skin crawl. How could he deny the truth from her?

He didn’t want a child and he denied the truth to her. How cruel of him!

There was no use blaming Katerina and the others. They are paid workers of Leander. They will have to listen to him. If they didn’t listen to him and take her side, they will face dire consequences.

That was the reason why she asked them not to let Leander know that she knows the truth. She could see the relief on their faces.

Also, this is a matter between a married couple. It should be dealt with between them. She is not going to complain to others or involve others in any way.

Heh!

What should she do when her husband decided to...

She took in a deep breath as she saw the church in front of her. There weren’t many people there. Just a couple of people here and there.

She looked at the candle in her hand and her eyes clouded once more. Her mother left her here with just a candle and here she is, bringing a candle for her unborn baby.

Why God? Why?

She didn’t feel like entering the Church. Was it because she was angry at God? What would that do? As if he cares for her.

Clutching the candle to her chest, she sat on the very stair her mother left her on the day she was born.

The phone rang. Through her clouded vision, she could see it was her "Hubby".

Taking in a deep breath, she looked up. She saw a helicopter passing over the church. She answered the phone not knowing why Leander called her this soon after she told him that she was going to sleep.

Ah, Katerina must have told him the truth. How much did she tell him though?

"Leander," she said as there was no sound from the other end.

"Where are you?" he asked.

She pressed her lips together and wetted them. "You’d know," she said.

"I know. But tell me anyway," he said.

Viviana bowed her head and scratched on the stair with a stone she found. He sounded so... gentle.

She remembered the somber expression Leander was donning in the days before he left. He knew. He knew what everything was about and that man was looking after her.

She doubted if he was that sad about the death of his brother. But he was not, was he? He was that sad for the loss they suffered.

It was not just her loss, was it? It was his loss too. He lost his baby too. Although he didn’t want that child, he lost his blood.

And yet...

There can’t be any sinister reason behind what he did. Masking the sadness, he took care of her. He loves her way too much.

It was the best decision she made not to let him know that she knows. Although her intent earlier was different, she now had another important reason added.

She didn’t want him to feel sadder because of her. He doesn’t have to feel like he didn’t protect her as if he had any control over what happened.

This is the least she could do for the man with the truest heart, who loves her for who she is and tries his best to keep her happy.

"I’m at the Church," she said, her voice choking.

This time, she was not crying for her. She was crying for the man who loves her so much for some reason she cannot comprehend.

"I am right now sitting exactly where my mother left me," she said. "I just wanted to take a walk... You are not mad at me, are you?" she asked.

Her mind cleared up. Although she was still grieving, at that moment, she decided to concentrate on her husband who did something selfless for her.

’I am not going to get mad at you for any reason, honey," he said.

He sounded weird.

"Are you walking? You sound shaky," she asked.

"The stair of St. Michael’s Church?" he asked.

Of course, he would ignore her when he thinks that she is talking unnecessary things. But still, he is very gentle with her.

Her lips curved slightly. He remembers what she told him. He hears everything she says. "Yes."

"Look up. Lemon," he said.

"What?"

Viviana thought she heard wrong. And yet her eyes searched for him. And there he was, in the distance, walking toward her.

Viviana stood up.

"Stay there. I’ll come to you," he said and waved her hand.

"What are you doing here?"

Her voice went high-pitched out of surprise. She could see him smile widely in the distance. He ended the call and placed his phone in his pocket.

Without knowing she walked toward him and got down. But he waved her hand gesturing for her to stop. "I’ll come there," he said.

"Mel-"

Viviana turned to hear a familiar voice.

"Viviana?"

The nun held Viviana’s hands.

"Praise God! We all thought you were dead!"

"Sister Deborah," Viviana smiled. "I’m not dead..." she grimaced.

Sister Deborah couldn’t stop smiling seeing Viviana. She held her cheeks. "It’s so nice you’re here. Father Patrick asks about you often. We never told him the speculations about your death. And..."

Sister Deborah stopped seeing Leander walking toward them. She saw Viviana waving to him earlier.

"He is...?" Sister Deborah questioned.

"He’s my husband," Viviana smiled.

"Oh! You’re married?" Sister Deborah hugged her and kissed her cheek. "That’s good. That’s really good."

She was happy. Viviana smiled awkwardly. She proclaimed everywhere that she doesn’t want to get married. It would come as a surprise for everyone to learn that she married.

And she married a Kastello.

Her heart skipped a beat. Sister Deborah was one of the older nuns who were with Father Patrick from the earlier days. She knows what the Kastello family did to the orphanage.

What will she think if she learns that she married Leander Kastello?

"What does he do?" Sister Deborah asked.

Viviana gulped as she didn’t know what to answer. She cannot lie to a nun standing in front of the church, can she? "Huh?"

"What is his name? Where is he working?" Sister Deborah stacked her questions.

Viviana clutched the candle hard. She felt Leander’s sleeve grazing hers and she felt like she was a slug who was drenched in salt.

What should I do?
