Entwined With the Villainous Guardian -
Chapter 259: The Last Hope
Chapter 259: The Last Hope
A couple of days passed with Viviana taking bed rest. The doctor suggested it and she had no qualms following it as rest is needed to replenish her body.
The pain subsided on the third day and she was greatly relieved. But her mind was confused with various thoughts.
Leander would be talking to her all the time. But maybe that day he was busy, he didn’t talk to her. She was feeling numb; like she has lost something so important to her.
Maybe she did.
Or she might have turned crazy and is thinking that something that cannot happen to her, happened to her.
Either way, she decided to clear her doubts.
She cannot handle the feeling of loss when she was unsure whether she lost it or not. It was more and more confusing.
She got to the garden and stood in front of the lemon sapling. The leaves had a nice color to them and Viviana noticed a new leaf budding. It was so pretty and perfect—the beautiful light green, almost white, little leaf proving that this world is teeming with life.
"Pull it out," she told the gardener.
The gardener was stunned. He looked at Katerina. Katerina slightly shook her finger.
"Signora, this plant has rooted here. It will flourish here. I don’t understand why..." he gulped as Viviana stared at him blankly. He looked terrified.
"I don’t like a lemon tree here. This place would be perfect with a footpath. Move it there..." She pointed near the wall.
She looked at the gardener and he was standing frozen. Katerina was astonished.
"Signora, I~" Katerina stopped as Viviana gestured for her to stop.
"I’m telling you to move the plant," Viviana said without wavering.
"But Capo said~"
"I am not asking for your permission here, Katerina," Viviana glared at Katerina. Katerina staggered back.
"Come on," Viviana looked at the gardener.
As he was not moving, she bent and reached to pluck the plant from the soil. But she stopped sensing something on her leg.
"Please, no, Signora... I beg you...It’s..." Katerina’s eyes were teary as she grabbed Viviana’s leg. "Please do not disturb the grave..."
Viviana plopped on the floor as she lost strength in her knees. She fell on her face. Placing her hands beside the plant—the place where her baby is buried, she sobbed.
I knew it... I knew it...
My poor baby... What did I do wrong? Why did you leave me?
Katerina tried to lift her up, joined by Martha. But they couldn’t lift her. They couldn’t stop her abysmal cries. Katerina sent away the other servants to let Viviana have her privacy with her lost baby.
"I knew she would find out," Katerina whispered to Martha.
"Men," Martha sighed. "And we are screwed."
They think that everything can be hidden as they please. But there are some things that cannot be hidden. And now that Signora found out the truth, nothing is going to stop their death.
Katerina sighed.
The two women stood there watching Viviana pour her grief out, watering the plant with her tears. They didn’t know what to do if she continued on a spiral.
Both of their hearts pounded hearing Viviana’s phone ringing.
They knew it. Signora would not answer the call, or she would shout at Leander for hiding the truth from her. And then...
But even in this situation, Katerina found that Signora was the pitiful one. She lost her child. That is worse than losing one’s life.
But nothing she feared happened.
Viviana got up from the ground. The soil was sticking to her face. She wiped it out and answered the call. She didn’t sound great, but she didn’t sound despondent as if she found out that miserable truth.
She talked normally. She ended the call earlier than usual stating her "allergies".
"I do not want any harm to come to that plant. Commission an angel statue to be installed beside the plant. My baby needs a proper grave," Viviana said. "More importantly, Leander does not have to know that I know," she said and walked into the house.
Katerina and Martha let out a sigh of relief the moment she stepped into the house.
Viviana walked to the bathroom and took a bath.
Closing her eyes, she looked at the ceiling. She tried to control her tears, but she couldn’t. She cried for some more time for the little bean that didn’t have the luck to live in this world just because it was given to her.
But the baby is now in a much better place now, isn’t it? Yeah, he is.
She changed and got down the stairs.
"Have some snacks," Katerina offered her.
Viviana shook her head. "Are there candles?" she asked.
They brought her some candles. She picked one and walked out.
"Signora...?" Katerina stopped her. "Are you going alone?"
"I’m going to Church. I want to be alone," Viviana said. "I think I can do that without getting my husband’s permission, can’t I?"
Katerina bowed her head. "Of course, Signora."
Katerina could sense the despair in her eyes. When all hope is lost, what other way is there other than to turn to God?
"Don’t worry. I know this place. Maybe ask Martha to follow me at a distance. I do want to be alone for some time," Viviana said and walked out.
Katerina sighed and looked at Martha. Their Signora cannot be allowed to be alone. Especially in Abenney.
There are a lot of people having resentment toward the Kastello family in this town. With the Vitale family heir against them, it would be unwise.
Signora knows it and that’s why she asked Martha to follow her at a distance. Of course, Martha won’t be alone. She will take some guards with her.
Viviana walked the hilly road holding the candle to her chest. Her phone was in her purse.
She was not happy to hear Leander’s voice. He hid such an important thing from her. A bitterness formed in the corner of her heart.
She knew that the little seed of bitterness may cause a big problem in the future. But that’s not what she was worried about.
She cared only for the little life she lost without even knowing.
