Chapter 253: There When She Needs Him

Chapter 253: There When She Needs Him

Gabriella sneezed the moment she stepped out of the house. It was chilly out in the middle of the night. She looked around for the guards.

She couldn’t see much security. Which was odd. She carefully closed the main door. But it didn’t close entirely. Someone was pulling it from behind.

Her heart skipped a beat. She wanted to make a clean escape from this house. But it appears that she was caught.

She waited to see who that was.

"Mary! Why are you here?" Gabriella whispered. Mary helped her in mapping out the route for her escape. Why is she here now?

"Here," Mary stuffed a stack of bills in her hands.

Gabriella took a peek and they were all $100 bills.

"Where did this money- I don’t want money," Gabriella said. But then she realized she didn’t have money for a cab even. She took out a couple of bills and tried to give the rest back to Mary.

But Mary refused. "Signora asked me to give you this. I cannot go against her word," she said.

Gabriella sighed. "Is this your Signora’s money? Where did you get this from? It looks like there are more than three grand here. Won’t Leander kill you when he finds out you stole from~"

"Oh, no!" Mary interjected Gabriella with her eyes wide. "It’s my money! And there is five grand."

Gabriella couldn’t believe it. "How did you save five grand?" And how is she having this much cash with her?

"After I got closer to Signora, I got a raise. I was planning on buying a Hermes coat and that’s why I had the cash. Otherwise..."

Mary rambled on.

Gabriella was perplexed. She was not trying to be bigoted but she was genuinely shocked.

A Hermes coat? Isn’t Mary a maid? How can she afford it?

"How much is your salary?" Gabriella asked.

"Four grand per month," Mary pointed her four fingers with a gleeful smile.

Gabriella staggered as he felt like the ground beneath her feet was slipping. "How much were you paid, you know, before your Signora?" she asked.

Gabriella was almost getting jealous of Mary. She was not very proud of her feeling, but...

"$850 per month," Mary shrugged.

Gabriella’s eyes almost popped out of the sockets. From 850 to 4000? That’s not a raise. That’s... Is there even a word for it?

And all this just for being associated with Melanie?

Goodness! I am good to Melanie! I am entitled to millions then! Should I stay and ask Leander?

Gabriella almost rethought her decision to leave.

"How much is Katerina’s salary?" She asked.

"$2500," Mary said.

"That’s less than~"

"A week," Mary added.

"Oh, that makes sense," Gabriella said. "Wait... It doesn’t..."

$2500 a week means, $10,000 a month and that means Katerina is making a six-figure salary per annum. She is a housekeeper for f*ck’s sake! Even college graduates don’t make that much! Why is the world so unfair?

Gabriella stuffed the bills in her hand in her bag. "Go bring me another grand or two," she said.

This is so not fair!

Mary nodded her head and walked in. But then Gabriella stopped her. She cannot act petty. She was fine with leaving with no money and two grand is a lot of money. She can start a comfortable life.

"Thank you, Mary, for this help. And... thank your Signora for me, okay? I’ll take my leave," Gabriella said holding Mary’s hands.

"I’m going to miss you. Signora too," Mary said hugging her.

Gabriella wiped the tears off Mary’s cheeks. "We will meet again. I’ll surely come to visit your Signora in the future. Take good care of her until then for me, all right?"

Mary nodded.

Gabriella walked through the empty road that led to the gates of Orchid Gardens. She was unsure of what her future was. But she cannot continue living in Leander’s house. It’s not the right thing to do. She needs to find a path of her own.

On the way, she noticed one of the security meeting eyes with her. But then he turned and walked away as if he didn’t see her.

So, Leander is sending me away...Good!

Gabriella walked to the gates with a large gait. She wondered if Leander had arranged for a cab. That would be better.

When she reached the large iron gates, they opened for her. Just as she stepped out, she was in for the shock of her life.

It can’t be...Oh, f*ck!

She almost turned to get back in the house when the big car on the road honked. Gabriella froze on the spot with her back to the car.

"Get in!"

Gabriella sneaked a peek behind her hearing the familiar voice.

From the driver seat, out popped the charming face of the guy she was secretly missing. He was wearing his nerdy glasses and donning his magnetic smile. Hearing his voice after a while made her heartbeat go haywire.

This guy has never stopped popping in front of me when I least expect it. What can I do?

Gabriella clutched her shirt. Her throat closed with emotions. He never stops appearing in front of her whenever she feels lost. How can he be this perfect?

She wanted to lean on his chest and hug him close and cry. She wanted to kiss him and never let go.

But she cannot do that.

Dragging her suitcase, she turned. "You promised I will never see you," she said holding her breath pretending to be unaffected.

She thanked heavens she was in the dark. He won’t be able to see her blush or her reddened eyes.

She sashayed past his car. She would make it appear that she does not need him.

"You’re talking to me?"

Lionel drove the car slowly beside her. "Did I really say that to you, Brie?"

"You did, actually," Gabriella said. Her heart was beating in her throat and she didn’t know what to do.

"Are you sure it was me? It could have been my twin brother. He looks exactly like me. His name is Lionel Waldorf. Was he the one you talked to?" he said.

Gabriella stopped and Lionel stopped the car.

"Really?" Gabriella sighed.

"Here!" Lionel with a big smile waved a thick bunch of papers. "I finished the script. Come on, get in and read... I need your opinion."

Gabriella’s lips trembled. She wanted to jump into his car forgetting everything. But his smile... he won’t be able to smile like this if he is with her. No one will let him be happy.

But she was curious. "Was it the script about the Abenney fire?" she asked. She wanted to know how he developed Melanie’s story now that Leander knows the truth.

"Come in, Brie... "

Lionel leaned and opened the passenger side door.

Gabriella remembered the odd thing Melanie said. It’s been disturbing her for a while. She thought Lionel would help.

For Melanie, she told herself as she walked to the car.

Lionel jumped out and got her suitcase and threw it in the trunk. He closed the door for her.

"It’s for..." she gulped as Lionel’s breath fell on her face making her remember the kiss they shared.

Why is he this close?

"For?" Lionel raised his brows. He leaned closer to her face.

Gabriella placed her hand on his chest to push him back. Her little hands did nothing to stop him. He pushed forward.
