Chapter 245: The Ride

Chapter 245: The Ride

The next day, Viviana was not feeling very good. Her mind was disturbed by various thoughts. She took a walk around the house. She heard the bell toll from the distance.

Her heart yearned to visit St. Michael’s Church. As far as she knows, Father Flannagan was staying in one of the buildings in the church grounds. She wanted to visit him to check on him.

Talking to him will clear her mind. She felt like she was standing at the edge of a cliff with no way forward. But Father Flannagan would always find a path for her.

She missed him so much. She was terrified of the surgery. She still didn’t trust Leander very much regarding the surgery. Visiting the church, sitting silently in the pew, praying, will certainly give her a peace of mind.

She gathered her courage and went to Leander to tell him that she wants to go to the church. But Leander asked her to get ready. He looked very excited.

Viviana didn’t tell him about her wish and did what he asked of her.

"Ta-da!"

Leander made an exaggerated reveal as she stepped out of the house. Viviana was surprised enough that her eyeballs popped out.

"Is that a Ducati?" she asked. She was about to ask him why he bought some expensive motorbike out of nowhere but then she remembered casually mentioning wanting to ride a motorbike.

"Oh, you did not..." she said caressing the shiny motorbike. "Do you even know how to ride it?"

"I can ride a bicycle... It’s the same, right?" Leander shrugged.

Viviana gulped. She does not know much about bicycles either. But shouldn’t there be a difference? One has a powerful engine and so it must be handled differently, right?

"I am surprised you know about Ducati..." Leander casually helped her wearing the bright yellow helmet.

Viviana unconsciously pushed the helmet away. "It’s the dream bike of one of my co-workers. He never stopped talking about... Will you stop it!" she pushed his hand away. "I am not riding in this..."

She wetted her lips as they were dry. "You’re scary," she said. "People would think at least twice before buying something expensive like this...It’s a motorbike and you spent hundreds of dollars on~"

"It’s not that expensive," Leander cut her off. It’s not hundreds of thousands of dollars. It’s a little over a hundred grand.

Viviana could only glare at him. "F*cking rich boy...." She mumbled under her breath. How did I even end up with him?

Leander successfully locked her helmet. "Take it off! I am not riding this bike!" She tried to get the helmet off.

She was so scared to learn to ride a bike even when her dad assured her it’s not that hard. She certainly didn’t have the guts to sit on a superbike.

"I’ll do the riding, honey," Leander held her hands. "Ooh! Are you scared?" Your hands are cold. You were the one who wanted to ride a motorbike. Why are you scared now?" he asked. He looked disappointed.

"I..." Viviana’s lips twitched as she tried to reveal the truth. "By motorbike, I meant a Vespa! One of my classmates in college had a boyfriend with a Vespa and she used to tease us~"

"A VESPA?" Leander interjected her. He looked like he has heard the most absurd thing in his life.

Viviana bowed her head. A Vespa is a scooter, not a motorbike if she has to get technical. She knew that and yet in a flow she said what she said.

"Who asked you to buy a Ducati out of nowhere?" she mumbled for him to hear.

Steve who was standing closer to them moved away. His shoulders were shaking and he was covering his face with his hands.

"Honey, do I really look like someone who rides on a f*cking Vespa?" Leander asked. "Do you even..." he couldn’t even finish what he was about to say as he was that flabbergasted by the idea of riding a scooter.

Viviana imagined a buff, tall guy like Leander driving a Vespa. A lion on a wasp does not look good.

She ended up bursting into a fit of laughter.

"You can have the bike and ride it all you want...but carefully..." Viviana said. "Look... I don’t even have a place to sit properly. This bike is meant to be for men like you to fly away..."

She started rambling.

Leander let out a deep sigh. "Get on," he walked to the motorbike wearing his helmet.

Viviana stood rooted to the spot.

"Get on! I won’t exceed the speed of a Vespa," he said turning to look at her. He was wearing the helmet and she couldn’t see his expression. But he sounded too annoyed.

Viviana didn’t want to wear his patience thin and ran to him. "I’ll get on if you agree to ride as if you’re in the city traffic," she said.

"What city traffic?" Leander asked.

Viviana could only sigh. Of course, Leander wouldn’t know how terrible city traffic is. He is from a different world!

She climbed up the back and clung onto his back like a koala. "Will you even know if I drift away in the wind?" she asked.

Leander answered her by turning on the engine. The deep revs of the engine caused panic in Viviana’s heart. She stuck to Leander’s back as closer as she could.

She was scared for a minute or two. But then she got relaxed.

"Faster!" she shouted as he zoomed through the curvy mountain roads.

Spreading her hands, she let the rushing wind kiss her hands. Leander had to grab her hands to hold him. When she failed to hold him, he slowed down.

Begrudgingly, she held him as he took her up the hill. She stretched herself up as they reached the peak. Her eyes ended up to the side where she could see St. Michael’s Church more clearly and closely.

"I’ll take you there tomorrow," he said. "The surgery is at night. We can go there in the morning."

"Really?" Viviana’s face bloomed with a smile.

"Yeah," Leander nodded.

He wanted to go there too. Brie told him that she was left on the stairs of the church. He wanted to see where she grew up.

He received a message from Steve. Since they can’t locate Tabitha yet, they managed to get Helena’s DNA. Now they will have to test it against her DNA and find out if they are related.

Viviana thought they would leave after some time. But Leander took her to a rock and asked her to sit with him. The sea was in front of them and the gushing breeze caressed them gently.

"Let’s dance!"

Leander held her hand and stood her up. He scrolled though his phone and selected the music. Viviana was curious what Leander’s genre of music was.

Sweet Caroline...

That song started to play and Viviana smiled. What a curious man!

"Hands... touching hands..."

She sang along and twirled around him. He was not a very good dancer. His hips were stiff. It reminded her of Leona but she put that thought in the back burner and enjoyed her time with Leander.

At the same time, in the other side of the sea, inside a luxurious room, a vinyl record was blasting in high volume.

"She...stood there laughing... I felt the knife in my hand and she laughed no more..."

One a big screen, the image of a happy couple dancing was being played live. The man wearing a white suit clenched the knife in his hand hard. His lips raised to a smirk as he turned.
