Chapter 235: Spoken Truth
"Choose one," Leander pointed at the distance. "25 meters or 200 meters? The big one comes with a crew."
Viviana blinked.
When he asked her to pack a bikini, she thought they are going for a swim in the sea. But why is she asked to choose boats.
Boats? They are luxury yachts! Why is he asking her? What does she know about them. But, wait...
"Do you know how to...drive a bo- yacht?" she asked.
Leander shrugged.
"Why am I even surprised, rich boy?" she sighed and stared at the boats.
If the big one needs a crew, she was not sure of it. She’d rather take the smaller one if she’d be with Leander. But Leander hasn’t even taken her on a car ride alone. She always was in the back seat with him.
She was not scared of going into the ocean with him. Even if something goes wrong, she is a pretty good swimmer and she can survive.
Come to think of it...
"Do you know other rich boy stuff?" she asked clinging to his sleeves.
Leander furrowed his brows seeing her enthusiasm. It was odd to see her this excited. "Like what?"
"Like...riding motorbikes, horses, and...jumping..."
"Skydiving?" he asked.
"Yes," Viviana nodded. "And the one where they jump from the top of the mountains with...gliding! That’s it paragliding..."
’You want to fly?" he asked. She seemed to be more interested in paragliding. He would have never guessed that she would be interested in extreme sports.
But then again, she was not afraid of death. So, her interest in those dangerous activities is not that surprising.
Is that why she chose to jump from the roof of a building? To fly? What a silly woman!
"Have you ever...flied?" she asked.
"No," he shook his head. "My grandfather never allowed me to participate in sports that might get dangerous."
"Oh," Viviana nodded. "Makes sense..."
Leander smiled in glee. How can he not when his wife showed interest in something?
He pulled her close to his chest. She leaned on his chest. He sent the big boat and the crew away. He was always planning on taking her on the yacht himself. The other boat was just a distraction in case someone tries to get him.
Leander brought her to the dock and to the small yacht. He even held the bag himself.
"There’s a kitchen!" Viviana said.
Leander smiled seeing the glee in her face.
"There’s a bed too," he winked.
A bed is more important for him.
"We won’t be here for long. We’ll return at sunset," he said.
Viviana didn’t care much about the details. She loved the sea. It’s been a while since she’s been to the sea. She went to the deck and sat comfortably to take in the view.
"Aren’t you changing?"
Leander asked. They were far from the shore and he had stopped the engine to stay in the middle of nowhere for some time.
"Look at you!" Viviana raised her brow.
With just the swimwear shorts and his sunglasses, he looked dapper.
"Go, wear the bikini. I’ll rub the sunscreen on your back," he said.
Viviana stuck her tongue out.
She couldn’t believe that her life has turned out like this. She’s become this rich lady who wears expensive bikinis and sunglasses, and lies in the middle of the ocean in a private yacht with a filthy rich handsome hunk of a husband by her side to rub sunscreen on her back and to listen to her every whim.
Life is not bad!
But her imagination didn’t turn out as she expected. Her handsome hunk of a husband was keen on pulling the strings of the bikini more than listening to her every whim.
"Stop squirming. I am trying to get every inch covered. Melanoma is real," Leander said massaging her chest. Her pleas to leave her be were not heard. It’s not like she cannot reach her chest without his help.
Viviana gave up after some time. She turned and lay facing him. She learned that his care for her skin is only superficial. If he wants to touch her, he can.
When she turned, he passed her his sunglasses and went for her legs. The chill of the cream, when spread with his big hands was only scorching hot. She closed her eyes and enjoyed his warm touch.
*Chu*
He kissed her foot. She looked at him surprised by his act.
"Your feet are beautiful," he said placing her foot on his shoulder.
He rubbed her leg softly with his fingers making her wince, spraying kisses along the way to her inner thigh. Viviana sucked in a deep breath. Her toes curled as he got closer to her womanhood. She closed her eyes.
It was not just lust for him, she understood. It made her happier and invoked a strong feeling deep inside her heart. She would do anything for him. She will give up anything for him.
With her feet on his shoulders, he placed his hand on her belly.
"Melanie..."
How does he know this name? Why is he bringing that name up?
Viviana opened her eyes wide out of shock. He was looking at her but he probably can’t see her shock through the sunglasses.
He leaned closer to her face to get her sunglasses. She closed her eyes.
She realized that the corners of her eyes were wet and tried to control her emotions. She didn’t want to give up her secret. She didn’t want to put the lives of others at risk by letting him know of her existence.
He didn’t get her sunglasses, but leaned on her chest. He was silent for some time. Then he talked. His voice was low, soft and filled with pain.
"The little girl I dream of... I see her running along the beach in a pink frock... In some dreams, I hear her name—Melanie. Sometimes, her name is just ’Jo’... I think I am haunted, Minnie... She’s the one haunting my dreams. She was my savior in the beginning, but lately, she’s... I only want you, Minnie. But she haunts me... The angel I tattooed on my chest... it hurts...I’m in pain...I only want you..."
Viviana held her breath. Her heart pounded and she clenched her hands into fists to control herself. The more he talked, the more she felt his pain in her soul. She couldn’t bear to see him in pain.
She relaxed her hand and ran her fingers through his smooth hair. He was struggling in his heart thinking that he was cheating on her—that much was apparent by his words.
"It’s me," she said interjecting him. "I am Melanie...I’m sorry...I’m the girl in your dreams... I’m sorry, Leander."
I’m sorry for not telling you sooner. I’m sorry for letting you suffer. I am sorry I am afraid of what might happen afterward. I am sorry you were right... I don’t trust the name attached to your name. I am sorry... I am sorry...
"Why didn’t you tell me sooner?" Leander looked at her. She closed her eyes unable to meet his despaired eyes. "I asked you earlier..."
He removed her sunglasses, and she turned her face. She was ashamed of facing him. She still has bitterness deep inside her heart regarding the fire. She still held resentment for the Kastello name. She still feared the Kastello name.
She still fears the fact that the man she fell in love with is a Kastello.
She was sad she thinks that way. But she still couldn’t get over the resentment she held in her heart for two decades.
At the same time, she still feared his eyes.
His eyes would make her forget the reality. She’s used to living in fear. She was used to unhappiness.
But looking into his eyes makes her forget her reality. She turns into someone else--someone happy and someone who is not afraid to show her love.
Someone who forgets her fate.
Isn’t she the one fated to be unhappy her whole life? Isn’t she fated to lose everyone she loves to fire? How can she forget that and fall in love with a beautiful soul? How can she allow him to get scorched in fire? Isn’t it enough she watched Leona burn? Should she watch Leander burn too?
Why? Why did her heart become weak to fall in love?
All her negative emotions came out just as he expressed his pain. His expression of pain brought out her deepest pain out. But unlike him, she didn’t have the guts to tell him her pain.
Because it will hurt him more.
What can she do?
As the warmth covering her left her, Viviana opened her eyes. Leander was walking to the cockpit. Viviana sucked in a deep breath of disappointment.
She only knows how to ruin good times. They started happily and now; he is cutting short their time in the sea because of her.
She stood by the railing watching the distant horizon. There was an hour left for sunset. She would have loved to watch sunset with him.
"Hold on, Minnie!" Leander shouted.
The next moment, the yacht made a swift turn. She was not holding on to anything and she tripped in the railing and fell into the sea.
The water was slightly cold, but Viviana managed to hold her breath at the right time as she sank into the deep water.
Even through the noise of the motor, she could hear the sound of bullets.
Not this again!
