Chapter 227: His Wife Disappeared
Lionel grimaced as Brie bowed her head. It was obvious that she wanted this kiss but she still needs convincing. How can someone be this determinant?
But what else can he do if this is what she wants? As always, he will get what he can out of this situation as he dance to her whims.
Gabriella wetted her lips. If it was anyone but Lionel who was asking for the kiss, she would have slapped the shit out of that man. But this is Lionel.
And a kiss is something she wanted from him for years. For years she’s been holding on to the impossible love for years. A kiss might offer her a closure too.
The moody cloud that was dampening her heart with confusion dissipated. Her heart pounded out of excitement. Thinking of the kiss, she wondered if she was smelling bad. What if she has bad breath?
"I..." she leaned back clutching the hem of her shirt. A kiss from Lionel is all she wanted all this time. But...Maybe she was not ready for this kiss. This was too sudden.
Lionel supported his hands on the bed. Gabriella felt the bed sinking near her thighs. He tilted his head slightly to his side and his warm breath fell on her face. His alluring eyes magnified in front of her face.
She closed her eyes knowing she had no escape. It’s a kiss... A kiss from her dearest Nellie... She couldn’t handle the excitement she almost went numb.
But she won’t be able to feel the kiss if she goes numb!
As she was debating in her mind, she felt his warm breath closer to her ear. Her eyes fluttered out of reflex and she wanted to open her eyes.
But before she could, she felt something soft landing on her lips. Fireworks burst loud in her chest cavity and the blood flowing through her body got boiling hot. Her hold on her shirt tightened and she craved the warmth of his big hands on her.
But...
His lips left hers.
Gabriella leaned forward to have a hold of his lips a little longer. Her hands reached for something his to grab, and she tried to open her eyes.
It was not enough for her at all! She wanted the kiss to last longer.
She couldn’t open her eyes. His scent was lingering on her lips and she inhaled sharply and almost choked before she was able to open her eyes.
Desperate—that’s what she was.
Lionel was already by the door. "You won’t see me again," he said with his back still on her view.
Gabriella stood up. Her heart wanted to run to him to have another look at his kind face but her legs had gone numb already.
’Won’t see me again...’
Yes, she told him that she didn’t want to see him again. He said what he thought she wanted to hear. But hearing it from him made her fell shallow as if her soul got ripped out.
She couldn’t move forward. Her legs hurt and she fell on the bed. She could only hear the door close and she closed her eyes.
Streams of tears rolled from the corner of her eyes. Covering her eyes with her hands, she grieved for the love that she held dear to her heart; her love for the kindest man that had become part of her being.
She thought that she can cut it off; like a limb of a tree that probably won’t grow back. But no, she was wrong. She found that her love has been woven into every fiber of her being. If she has to cut it off, she will die.
Perhaps, she is wrong. There might be a day in the future when she could wake up and feel nothing for him anymore. Perhaps... Perhaps...
Gabriella’s tears dried up after some time. She sat up and looked at the door. He had left for real. She didn’t know how it was for him to leave. Maybe his heart has already accepted her superficial words as truth. Maybe he was satisfied with the little peck of skin contact they shared and he left with a content heart.
Her fingers hovered over her lips. It was still tingling. She didn’t want to ruin that feeling of his lips with her fingers.
She curled up on the bed. Throwing up her knees to her neck, she lied in the fetal position maybe because she wanted a consoling hug.
If he left happy, then that is enough for her. That’s what she wanted. Even if it hurts her, his being happy is what she wanted.
Curled up on the bed, she fell asleep before she knew it.

Leander was shifting through the channels not knowing what else to do. His wife who disappeared in the garden didn’t return for a long time. He didn’t want to get caught staring at the guest bedroom of his house.
Sugar was on his lap getting scratches on her fluffy head and chin. She was purring and rolling on his lap having gotten him after a long time. Cinnamon was rubbing on his legs.
When the door opened after what seemed to be an eternity, he almost stood up scaring away his pitiful cats. But he cleared his throat and pretended he was very interested in the nature documentary.
He turned off the TV seeing Lionel approaching him. Lionel was covering his mouth with his hand and walked looking at the floor. That was odd for Lionel.
"I told her I am not seeing her again," Lionel said bowing his head.
Leander observed Lionel with his eyebrows furrowed. He couldn’t see what Lionel was feeling as he was covering his face.
At one glance, Lionel seemed grief-stricken.
’You want a drink?" Leander asked standing up.
Although Lionel looked sad, Leander was happy and relieved. Firstly, Lionel did not appear to be angry at him. That was a great relief. Secondly, if Lionel himself decided not to meet Brie, then that’s good.
"No," Lionel waved his hand. "I’ll leave..."
Leander rubbed his chest seeing Lionel’s stooped back. He was saddened to see his friend in such low spirits. He decided to keep him company for the two days before he leaves with his wife.
"And Leo," Lionel turned.
Leander walked to Lionel.
"Help her to..." Lionel stared longingly at the door of the guest bedroom.
"I’ll help her settle. My wife will~"
"Ah, yes... Bellissima will take care of her, I know..." Lionel’s face relaxed a bit. "I’ll ask her to keep me posted..." he mumbled under his breath.
Leander caught what he said. But he said nothing.
Lionel hugged Leander and kissed his cheek. He then walked out.
Leander watched Lionel walking with an impulsive skip in his step. For some reason, he believed that Lionel is not very sad which was weird.
Leander decided to follow Lionel closely in the coming days.
He was surprised to see Lionel leaving without even meeting his wife. Lionel did go looking for Minerva but then left without meeting her.
Where did his wife disappear to?
Leander walked to the garden. He couldn’t see his wife either. When he asked the staff there, everyone acted weird. Everyone pointed in every direction of the house. He didn’t get any answers.
He couldn’t believe that his staff is turning against him. They are his staff and he trusted them with his wife’s life, but with the Vitale family watching her, he didn’t want to take any chance. He looked at Steve, his loyal aide. Steve pointed at the fence.
Leander sighed and walked back to the house. If his wife is with the dog, he can forget she exists for some time.
------
Viviana peeked out through the hole in the fence. She was almost out of the house. Juno had given birth and she had a litter of four puppies.

Viviana peeked out through the hole in the fence. She was almost out of the house. Juno had given birth and she had a litter of four puppies which was less for a Rottweiler.
Juno was keeping the puppies safely in the bush closer to the fence. Viviana was scared to see if she can have a look at the puppies if Juno would let her. But Juno let her get closer to the puppies.
Juno was tired. Viviana held back her urge to touch the puppies. She didn’t want to needlessly make Juno worried. The puppies were so cute even though they were all hairless and with their eyes closed.
The puppies were all big and healthy maybe because they were only four puppies. But when Viviana observed more, she found that one of the puppies was not as healthy as the others. The others jumped over that puppy for their mother’s milk.
Ah... the runt...
Her heart went for the runt of the pack.
