Chapter 216: He Chose Her

Chapter 216: He Chose Her

"You’re not going to convince me, Lemon," Leander said.

Lemon?

Viviana didn’t know where that come from. Leander bit his lips. He was about to say "honey" like other couples, but somehow his brain connected the word "honey" to "lemon", as he remembered the weird dance move, she did in his kitchen.

Or maybe because he was playing with the little lemon she gifted him for his birthday, he blurted out the word "lemon". He didn’t know.

He didn’t have to look up, but he could sense that everyone was confused by his term of endearment. But he chose not to care. It’s their fault for listening to their conversation. Not his.

Viviana clutched his shirt and whispered. "You can kill the husband. Let her go."

Leander looked at Viviana. He didn’t know whether she understood how great a conflict he was in within himself.

He has a chance to eliminate the Palatini family and their heir in one go.

"Let the baby go," Viviana pleaded clutching the shirt she gifted him. "Please, Leander. Wait a couple of months. You’ll get another chance...Please...not today..."

Please don’t be like your grandfather. Don’t hurt an innocent baby in his mother’s belly. Please...

She took a step back as she couldn’t see any change in Leander’s expression. Letting out a deep breath, she retracted her hand. She didn’t want to be there.

He didn’t listen to her when she pleaded for the hairdresser. So why would he listen to her now? That day he let Nadia go although she was the culprit and today too Nadia is free while he is holding a pregnant woman as a hostage.

She did her best. She made sure that his pride won’t be affected. If he let them go now, he could assert his dominance over them. Signora Palatini running away from Signora Kastello fearing for her life—what other way can Leander demean Nicholai?

Nicholai had to bow his head to protect his heir and ran away from Leander Kastello. This is how today’s incident will play out. What more does he want?

If he is not willing to let Helena go because of his love for his wife, then shouldn’t he have compassion for his wife’s pleas?

That only leaves her with this conclusion—his grandfather is more important to him. He wants to follow his grandfather and kill an innocent baby that didn’t even see this world.

Her throat closed. He chooses his grandfather. It shouldn’t be a surprise to her. He is a Kastello. But it hurt. She thought he was different.

He talked about atonement to her and just minutes later he is not hesitating to kill a pregnant woman. He is not going to convince her by saying that he did that for her.

She didn’t want to be there anymore. She didn’t have the heart to see Leander turning to his grandfather. She will have no part in this.

She took a step away from him. But Leander pulled her to him. He then pointed his gun at Helena. Viviana closed her eyes holding back her tears.

Helena had kneeled on the floor. Nicholai was searching for ways to get out of the situation. He glared at his wife for kneeling in front of his enemy, but he couldn’t do anything. He found Viviana’s pleas to Leander insulting to his family. He was fuming with anger even in that situation.

Maybe he can lose this child. He can always get another wife and another heir.

When Leander pointed his gun at Helena now sobbing uncontrollably kneeling on the floor as Nicholai took a step back. He smirked looking at Helena.

"I spare your life for my wife," he said. "Be thankful to her by not showing your despicable face to her."

After sparing a glance at Nicholai, Leander held Viviana’s cheeks with his both hands. He was still holding the gun in his hand.

Viviana heard the scuffling noises of footsteps from the stairs. She tried to look at who that was but Leander forced her to look at him.

"Are you happy now?" he asked. He didn’t sound angry and his eyes were gentle.

He chose me!

Viviana sniffed. The tears she was holding back rolled down her cheeks as if a floodgate was opened. "Thank you," she said and buried her head in his chest.

Leander kissed her head. "That’s enough crying, don’t you think?" he said patting her back.

Don Waldorf helped Helena up. Nicholai was fuming and just when he saw that help arrived jumped to heaven and earth. Don Waldorf looked at Leander walking away holding his wife in his arm. He was not even minding the commotion caused by Don Palatini. He could only sigh at Nicholai.

When Lionel called him to inform him about the tense situation between Palatini and Kastello, he rushed here. He didn’t even mind the fight between the Kastello brothers. Peter will reimburse him for the damages.

But there cannot be a fight between a Palatini and Kastello on his turf. And certainly, there cannot be any deaths. He didn’t want his business to suffer in the crossfire.

Thank goodness the young lion didn’t cause a commotion by killing Don Palatini. He won’t be able to run his business if that happened. Now all he has to do is cajole the guy whose pride was hurt and send him home. His wife does not look well.

Leander smirked at Nicholai who started shouting the moment help arrived. If it was not the Waldorf territory, he would have seriously changed his mind by now. But with Don Waldorf here, he has not much choice but to retreat.

Plus, he has touched his wife’s heart, it seems. That brightened up his mood. His mood shone like the summer sun he could burn his enemies just with his happiness alone.

"Stay out of sight," Leander said looking at Nicholai and Helena. He didn’t know why Helena glared at his wife. Did she not realize that she is alive because of his wife?

He started to feel animosity toward Helena right then. If she was threatened by Evander to bring Minerva to that restroom, she should be thanking her now for saving her life.

Or did she think that he won’t kill her because of their past attachment?

"Next time you show your face to my wife, even God won’t be able to save you from my bullets," he said pointing his gun at Helena.

The pointed gun did bring fear back to Helena’s face. Nicholai Palatini started shouting. Don Waldorf walked to Leander saying something with a placating smile.

Leander walked past Don Waldorf holding Viviana’s hand. His men followed him. Nicholai was shouting for a long time, but Leander didn’t mind.

Just as he got to the elevator, he got a call from his grandfather. Leander answered it. He didn’t think that news travels this fast, but it might be about Evander.

"Did you get them before Don Waldorf got there?" Peter asked.

"No," Leander said without leading him on. "I didn’t want to kill a pregnant woman," he said. He didn’t lie to his grandfather.

And why isn’t he asking about Evander yet?

"Son of a bitch!" Peter shouted. "You are proving yourself to be the son of my deplorable son! Weak and miserable!"

Viviana heard Peter shout through the phone. He was so loud she wondered how Leander could still keep his phone to his ear.

"You’re not weak to opt not to kill a pregnant woman," she said. She didn’t know how loud she was, but she was not whispering.

Steve gulped looking at her. And Leander stared at her. She had a feeling that she might have been a tad bit loud. But she did not regret that. This was not the first time she is openly opposing Peter Kastello. She had the guts even when she was seven.

"Is that the spawn of the devil wife of yours?" Peter shouted. "Is she not satisfied yet? She killed Evander and now she wants to brainwash you?" Peter shouted. "Bring her here, right now!"

Leander ended the call. Viviana gulped. She did not regret saying what she said. What she said is morally right. Leander should know what is morally right. His grandfather who kills orphans should not teach his morals to Leander.

*Ding*

The elevator opened. Viviana stepped in first followed by Leander and then Steve. Steve pressed the button for the basement parking lot. The others took the stairs. Viviana clutched the skirt of her dress as Leander looked stiff. And she didn’t want to go to Rose Gardens with him.

She did not worry about what happened with Evander. She didn’t care if he was dead or alive. Leander had planned for it. So, she didn’t think that Leander would let her take the brunt of it.

But regarding Helena Palatini...

*Ding*

The elevator stopped and Viviana looked at the display. The elevator stopped on the second floor. Someone else has stopped the elevator.

Leander’s hand went to the gun and Viviana neatly slipped behind Leander. She did not like to be around guns. But she had no other choice here. And he is protecting her.

"You! Get out!" The guy standing in front of the door told Steve. Steve tried to point his gun at that guy, but seeing Leander lowering his gun, he did too.

Leander nodded and Steve stepped out. The guy wearing an impeccable white suit stepped inside the elevator. He winked at Viviana.

Who’s this guy with a death wish?
