Chapter 204: Not About Trust
Chapter 204: Not About Trust
Viviana sighed. She didn’t know what he was thinking but she could see that he had made his decision. He was not going to change it.
"I’ll get ready..." she said and she saw a flash of relief on his face.
She didn’t know why he seemed relieved though. It’s not like she really has a choice.
"But I need to..." she pointed at the door. She wanted to check on Gabby first. She needed to gather herself. Because right now, she was so mad and so disappointed in Leander.
He looked like he cried. And she knew he was hurting the same way she did, watching that tape. He looked terrible and pale.
And yet he insists to attend the party to satisfy his brother. Is his family that important to him?
The tape made it clear that Evander attacked Gabriella solely because he thought that she was Leander’s woman. He did that in a terrible way. There’s no "nice" way to do that abominable thing, but he made Gabriella go through ultimate cruelty while destroying her soul.
And that was only half the tape. She didn’t have the nerve to watch the rest of the tape.
Leander heard her cries. He should have understood how cruel that was. He obviously feels bad for Gabriella. But he is bringing her to his brother.
She couldn’t understand him.
But it’s still his birthday and she didn’t want to give him hell even though he acts like a total moron. Maybe he has a plan, she didn’t know.
And she didn’t care.
She didn’t want to be anywhere near Evander. She has already told him what she feels about it. And yet, he does not want to listen to her.
What else can she do?
She was so mad. But she tried to be poker-faced just like he was.
"You can talk to her after we return," he pointed at the closet clutching his jaws. Viviana could see that eh was angry. "Wear something nice and... wash your face first. You look like you’re a grieving widow. It’s my birthday for f*ck’s sake! Is it too much to ask?" he shouted in the last part.
"Something nice, huh?" Viviana gritted her teeth and stormed into the closet. He wants her to look nice in front of his psycho brother. She had a lot of words to say about that. But she held herself back.
But she was raging mad.
She didn’t know where she got the strength, but she pushed him out of the closet and locked the door.
Not that it would help much. He must have another key. But she didn’t care. He knocked a couple of times but then he left her alone.
She looked through the dresses and decided to wear one of the sexiest dresses she had—one bodycon red dress that was above her knees with a slightly plunging neckline. It would accentuate all her curves.
She knew it because she was planning on wearing that dress when she surprised him with a cake. But a lot happened and it didn’t happen.
How would he like that if I wear that dress, huh? Would he be pleased if I wear that dress for his brother’s party? Will I not look like a grieving widow then?
She almost wore it out of her anger. But then her fear took over. She definitely was not going to put herself in the eyes of Evander any more than she already was.
She was already Leander’s wife and that puts her in a disadvantageous position. And what he did with the bottle still made her shiver. He might lack a dongle. But that doesn’t mean that he is going to stop doing what he does. He’ll find a way. And she didn’t want to be his test experiment.
In the end, she chose a jumpsuit. She even thought about wearing another set of pants inside, at least a pair of tights... But she didn’t want to feel too hot. She was too terrified to go out. But she didn’t have a choice.
She finished dressing carefully trying to tone down her curves. She even wore a jacket above the jumpsuit to cover her arms.
Viviana remembered that he was not dressed when she pushed him away. She opened the closet. Leander was standing just a few feet from the closet staring at the door.
"You look like a nun," he said walking past her.
"As if that would stop him," she mumbled.
"What?" Leander stopped and looked at her.
"Nothing," Viviana shrugged.
She added a golden metallic belt to her outfit and swapped the jacket for a chic one with a slit in the sleeves. She even chose stiletto heels. "Nuns don’t wear these," she said stepping into the shoes that she knew would kill her feet for the rest of the night.
But, hey! When push comes to shove, at least she has a weapon in her hand—her feet, to be precise, and two of them. One for each eye.
Speaking of weapons...
Her lips curved to a bright smile as an idea popped into her mind.
She sat at the vanity table for her makeup. Leander was still in his underwear watching her. She didn’t know what his attraction was to watch her wearing makeup. He would just stare at her while applying makeup.
"Want to taste?" she asked showing him the red lipstick she chose. If he was going to berate her for looking clumsy, she is not going to give him more ammunition.
Leander scoffed and looked away. Maybe he felt like he was caught, he went to his side of the wardrobe to choose his outfit. He probably realized that she was not going to do that for him tonight.
"Do I look raunchy enough for you?"
After getting dressed, she went to the kitchen leaving Leander behind. He still wasn’t dressed. And she didn’t want to be in his presence.
Leander watched her sashaying her way out of the room holding that clutch. The belt cinched at the right spot showcasing her tiny waist. Her pantsuit(?) accentuated her hourglass figure. He really wanted to give a tight slap to that booty as she slammed the door shut.
"What can I do with you!" he rubbed his face. "Ah, you make me go crazy... what am I going to do?"
Viviana went to the kitchen and stole as many knives as she could and hid them where she could. Well, she didn’t think much and stored them in obvious places. One in her belt, another in her bra, and the other one inside her purse.
But it didn’t matter. She would be entering with Leander and she didn’t think anyone would stop her to frisk her.
She waited for Leander in the living room. Mary came to her with her usual playful smile but maybe because she noticed her grave expression, she didn’t say anything to her.
"Make sure Gabriella eats at least a little. Insist even if she refuses," Viviana told Mary.
She was feeling so horrible for what Gabriella went through, she still was in pain. She didn’t know how she could survive after that and found a way to smile.
Gabriella is a very strong person.
She stood up hearing Leander’s shoes on the stairs. She looked up and she was stunned to see him. Not only her but everyone in the house, including Katerina.
He was wearing the shirt he gifted him.
"You look good in that shirt, Capo," Katerina said.
Viviana said nothing and walked a step behind him. They got inside the car. Steve was already in the front passenger seat as always.
Viviana, with a pout, stared outside the window supporting her chin in her hands.
As the car moved, Leander pulled her belt and dragged her close to him. Before she knew it, he hugged her and tried to get her to sit on his lap.
"Stop!" she struggled out of his hold.
But his hold was not loosening and she ended up hitting his chest to get him off her. She was mad at him and she didn’t want his hands on her.
The partition glass in between the seats got raised as Leander pushed the button.
Leander grabbed her by the jacket and pulled her to him. Her face was so close to his face that their noses almost touched.
"Do you not trust me?" he asked.
Viviana scoffed. "Would my answer change your mind?"
She was done being scared of him. Well, she was too mad to be scared of him.
"Tell me, wife..." Leander held her closer. "After hearing what I heard from that tape, do you think I would bring you there to be hurt?" he asked. "Do you still not trust me after I told you what I feel about you?"
His voice was deep and shaking. He sounded angry and hurt at the same time.
Viviana tried to turn her face. But he didn’t let her. She couldn’t match his strength and she scoffed.
"It’s always about you, isn’t it? Do you ever wonder what I feel? Did it cross your mind at least once that it might not be about me trusting you? Can’t I be just irked to be in the presence of that man?" she shouted.
Leander’s lips trembled. He let go of her and turned to the front. Viviana fixed her clothes and slid to the far end of the seat closer to the door.
Her eyes watered.
