Chapter 189: His Priority
Chapter 189: His Priority
"Why do you say that?" Viviana asked.
"It’s the way his servants respect you," Gabriella said. "Last night I noticed how he let you take the decision. Even the housekeeper was polite with you."
"Wow, that..." Viviana was about to say that it makes no sense, but she stopped herself.
It does make sense.
This is Leander’s house and everyone here is loyal to him and will listen to him. His people won’t respect his wife if they have a feeling that Leander doesn’t like his wife much.
"He insists that everyone treats me as his wife," Viviana waved her hand. "It’s an issue of his pride rather than...Maybe he has some plan. I don’t think it’s..."
Viviana gulped as she remembered what he said in the morning. He was about to say....
Gabriella chuckled.
"Eat first. Talk later," Viviana pointed at the food. She didn’t know what she was talking about.
Viviana relaxed seeing Gabriella finishing it up. She didn’t eat much last night either. Honesty, she didn’t know if Gabriella was eating properly at all.
"If this is my house, I would ask you to stay here forever, Gabby," Viviana leaned on her shoulder.
Gabriella sighed. She knew that Leander thinks that this is her home too. He would give her what she wants if she asks him. It’s too bad she doesn’t know that. But she understood her.
For them, "home" is a dreamland—a distant utopia, the place they will never have. So, even if they have a home, it would be hard to accept. They are not wired like normal people who had a home all their life.
Unless maybe they earned a house themselves, they won’t feel like accepting other’s places as their home. Because they know that they can be thrown out anytime as long as it’s not in their name.
It takes a lot for them to trust someone so well that they would feel like showing their vulnerability to them. Until then, they will fake their emotions or be passive-aggressive.
But ironically, that would deter normal people away from them. People generally don’t trust them because they always seem fake. They can’t be blamed for being careful around them.
But only they know that they act fake because of their insecurities. They just want people to like them. That’s what is deeply embedded in their brains.
Gabriella saw that Viviana is the same way as her. Even though she had a loving home for years, she lost them just as she learned to love and trust them. And it would be hard to put that love and trust in another person.
Certainly not anyone who bears the Kastello name.
But Leander is a good guy. Gabriella didn’t want Viviana to miss out on a good guy like Leander who would give his all for the one he married. Viviana wouldn’t have found herself a man as perfect as Leander even if she searched the whole world. And yet, she got him.
It must be fate that brought them together!
"Is Leander treating you well, Melanie? He’s not rough with you keeping what happened to Evander in his mind, right?" Gabriella decided to clarify first. She did not want to jump to conclusions without knowing the whole story.
Viviana nodded. "He’s...not bad. At first he...He’d shout at times. He pulled my hair once. But lately, he doesn’t even raise his voice... He’s a good man..."
"Then why?" Gabriella asked grabbing Viviana’s shoulders. "Why are you scared of loving him? Is it just because of hate?"
Pulling hair is bad, but Gabriella knew it was nothing compared to what those wealthy jerks would do to women. And Viviana herself says that he is being gentle with her these days.
"Hate?" Viviana let out a sigh. "I don’t even know if I hate him anymore, Gabby... I feel ashamed at times. But I don’t think I hate him. I don’t even think that he was responsible for my parents’ death."
"Then why? What’s the problem?" Gabriella asked. "Do you know what I wouldn’t give for another chance with Nellie? To go back in time and change my past? You don’t even have to go back. He loves you even though he knows you. You have a good guy, Melanie..."
Her voice shook.
Viviana’s eyes filled with tears. Gabriella is not even wrong. Leander is a good guy in that sense. He is more forgiving than she ever will be.
"I get it. His family is the bane of his existence and he thinks they are his blessing. But that can change, Melanie. Women can do a lot. They can surely move their husbands’ hearts and make them see the truth. It would be wrong in any other case, but, Melanie... Separate him from his family. It’d for his own good!" Gabriella said.
Viviana looked up. "That is so easy for you to say. I’m not that talented to make him do what I like, Gabby. I’m not," she said.
Although she did agree. Leander won’t be very bad if he is away from his family. Every bad thing he did, he did for his family. His family is the dark cloud covering his bright and lovely nature. Once he gets away from his family, he might just be another regular guy.
"You don’t even see it, do you?" Gabriella shook her shoulders.
Viviana pouted. "What do you mean?"
"You hurt his brother. He went against his grandfather and married you. Can’t you see that he’s already on your side?" Gabriella asked. "And you’re here in his house, as the mistress, in a position where you can command his servants. What more signs do you need to know that he loves you very much, even more than his family? And that makes sense too."
"Really?" Viviana asked. She truly didn’t know what Gabriella meant.
"Are you seriously that dumb, Melanie?" Gabriella knitted her brows seeing Viviana’s confusion.
Viviana shrugged. She is dumb. She is not very smart.
"You are his family now, Melanie... You are his wife. And you are his priority. You are the one who will give him his own family. You are special in his heart. He’s a man. That’s what he wants, A family for himself."
Gabriella said with a smile.
But Viviana’s eyes filled with tears.
"And that is exactly why I cannot accept him..." Viviana leaned on Gabriella and started to sob.
