Chapter 174: The Guest
Chapter 174: The Guest
Leander’s hand reaching to his mouth paused. He looked at Evander. Evander’s eyes were red as if he was feeling something. He’s never seen his brother getting emotional.
He thought that Evander might be faking it.
But during the rest of dinner, Evander didn’t say much except for sharing some of his memories with their father when they went to Abenney together. He looked solemn and even smiled from his heart as he reminisced about that outing, just like when he was when he gave the eulogy at their father’s funeral.
He was honest with his emotions!
It surprised Leander. When Evander talked to Viviana with his pretend charm, he was irked. He wanted his wife to not show her feelings to him. She handled him well. And now, he is seeing a genuine side of his brother.
He thought that his surprise was mainly because he never spent much time with his brother for as long as he remembered. They chose different paths; he picked the gun while his brother went to business meetings and parties. Maybe that’s why they never got to know each other.
Their mother’s obvious partial treatment played a big role too. Jealousy played a big role.
After dinner, Evander and Leander had drinks in the pool room on the first floor. Viviana waited to see if Viola needed company. But when Viola glared at her menacingly, she went to the kitchen.
She was not going to put herself through humiliation when even Leander didn’t care. She did find it weird to see Leander and Evander being chummy.
She did think that Evander was acting differently during dinner. But she would never forgive him for what he did. She poured herself a glass of wine and drank in the kitchen chatting with Mary and Martha.
When Viviana came out of the kitchen, she saw Leander sending off Evander and Viola. They hugged and Leander walked to the car to open the door for his brother and his mother.
She found that was weird. She had a feeling that Evander blamed her for what happened with Nadia.
Recently, she hears tidbits from the staff. She heard someone in the gardens talking about the cryptical video Nadia posted about meeting someone.
The staff liked to gossip. After Leander’s change of duties, most of the staff working outside were loyalists of Peter. They were more interested in Evander. She knew that Peter gets every news from Leander’s house through these staff; everything involving a simple rearrangement of the lawn chairs.
The recent thing everyone working outdoors was gossiping about was Evander’s marriage. So, when Evander’s interest in Nadia was revealed, they started following Nadia’s social media accounts.
Kids these days really can’t do anything before posting it for the world to see. Viviana didn’t understand the obsession. But she got that’s how they "roll".
Judging by the gossip, Evander and Nadia solved everything between them as evidenced by the picture Nadia posted from inside Evander’s car. Apparently, Evander dropped her back home.
And with Nadia’s eighteenth birthday coming up soon, speculation was that there will be a very lavish wedding in the Kastello family. One of the women even hoped loudly that the youngest daughter-in-law wouldn’t cause any commotion during the wedding. They all expected some drama.
Viviana didn’t want to be part of the soap opera they were writing, but she thought that if Nadia and Evander made up, then that means they united with hate for someone. And she strongly believed that she would be that someone.
Leander was still standing outside even sometime after Evander’s car left. Viola’s car followed them empty as Viola took a ride in Evander’s car.
Leander came back in just as another car entered the gates. The smile he had for his brother was missing and he looked contemplative. When he saw Viviana standing by the stairs, he paused.
"You’re not tired yet?" he asked. His face was void of any emotion and she couldn’t read anything on his face.
"I..." Viviana pointed at the stairs. "I was about to...go upstairs."
Leander pressed his lips and looked at the floor. He looked like he was about to say something. Although Viviana wasn’t so sure about it. He might want her to leave.
"You’re not coming?" she asked to know for sure if he does not want her there.
The car pulled up in the courtyard and she could see Leander’s face tensing up a bit.
"I’ll be in the room..." Viviana decided to leave. He looked uncomfortable and she didn’t want to know what business he does at night.
She really didn’t.
For the past few days, they are in a nice place where none of them are actively hurting the other. She didn’t want to ruin her peace by learning something she doesn’t have to.
"Actually," Leander took a step forward. "There is...I have to tell you something."
Viviana took a couple of stairs down to listen to him. "What is it?" she asked.
At that time, she heard a woman’s voice by the main door. A loud woman was commanding Leander’s servants on how to handle her luggage.
Viviana’s heart skipped a beat.
Leander quickly took a couple of steps forward. His eyes were pleading and he wetted his lips that had gone dry. "She’s a..."
"This is a big house for one guy!"
Viviana looked behind Leander to see the woman entering with a bright smile and her hands spread wide. Sexy cat eyes, plump lips that were painted red, feminine facial structure, beautiful porcelain skin that glowed even at night, perfect hourglass figure accentuated with a perfect dress that would probably only suit her...
Viviana couldn’t find the perfect word to describe that beauty. She looked like the feminine form of the hanging gardens of Babylon.
And the scent...the perfume, to be exact, was familiar. It was the same perfume she smelled on Leander earlier that day.
No way... just no way...
"And for a woman," the woman added.
"Brie, shut up!" Leander turned and gritted his teeth.
Viviana felt something bitter rising in her throat. She did not want to stand there anymore.
