Chapter 134: His Brother’s Fiancée

Chapter 134: His Brother’s Fiancée

Leander picked on the odd-tasting porridge with his spoon. He did not like to eat whatever that was. Apparently, his mother decided that it was healthy to eat some green concoction and it made it to the breakfast table.

Even Evander was eating that with no fuzz maybe because he was so immersed in his phone. His grandfather got biscotti. Why is he not getting biscotti?

He missed eating his wife’s cooking. Even the toast she prepares would be tasty. And she feeds him like a lion. He rarely sees green color on his plate unless it’s garnish. And everyone knows that you don’t eat the garnish.

Garnish is goat food.

And even the green stuff in the broth she makes would be tasty when she cooks it. And also, that orange thing that is needlessly sweet—carrots! He even eats carrots when his wife cooks.

But this... terrible!

"You don’t like it?" Viola asked with her brows raised.

"No, it’s..." Leander looked at the bowl in front of him. "I’m eating," he shrugged and stuffed that abomination into his mouth.

He didn’t want to cause any incident for a simple breakfast. He needs to tread carefully in front of his grandfather.

"That ring, is that a wedding band...?" Viola held his hand to take a peek. "Evan, did you see it?" she made Evander look. Show it to your grandfather," she didn’t fail to mention.

Leander, for the first time in his life, saw the true intent of his mother’s interest in him. Usually, she does not care much for the jewelry he wore. But today, she has an agenda, doesn’t she?

"Yes, it’s a matching wedding band. Do you like it?" he asked with a smile.

Viola’s face went a little dull for a moment as she looked at his finger. "Your dad never wore a ring..." she mumbled.

Peter clicked his tongue. Lucius wore a ring when he was married to that woman. She knows it.

"Where is the signet ring?" Peter asked, clearing his throat. He’s caught a cold recently. His health is not what it used to be in the past. Nowadays, he gets sick often.

Leander shrugged. "I’ll wear it to official meetings, grandpa," he said in a polite voice.

Peter was not happy with his answer but he didn’t say anything further. It did not surprise Leander.

"Evan, maybe you should get matching wedding bands too. I think it would be cute on her!" Viola prodded Evander who was having his face buried in his phone.

Leander observed them both. Viola was holding his hand and still he was not taking his eyes off the phone screen. Ever since the "accident" Evander is treated as a child in the family. Even his grandfather is not saying anything.

Leander shrugged it off. Coddling Evander is not anything new in the Kastello family. Evander seemed to have corrected his ways. Leander hasn’t heard any reports of Evander snapping anymore. For now, the maids in the Rose Garden were safe.

"You should tell your brother about her," Viola violently shook Evander’s hand, he almost dropped his phone.

"Ma, what the..." he almost raised his hand to slap his mother, but stopped himself at the last moment.

Her?

"Is Evander getting married?" Leander asked. He was bemused.

"Yes!" Viola’s face bloomed to the brightest smile. Leander hasn’t seen her smile this gleefully in a while. He was happy for her even though she was not looking at him.

"She’s live streaming..." Evander said and showed his phone to his mother.

"Oh...Look at her..." Viola looked at the phone screen with squinted eyes, trying to read the fast moving comments. "Oh, for the life of me I can’t read those tiny texts..."

Evander wrapped his arm around her shoulder with a bright smile.

"They are all praising her, I think... I see a lot of hearts..." Viola said.

"She’s doing something unnecessary. She doesn’t have to do cut her hair for Hosea to win. In fact, she shouldn’t be cutting her hair without my permission, but..."

Evander was still staring at the phone with a wide grin.

Peter rolled his eyes and Leander was surprised. Is this his brother? He looks like he’s in love. Really?

He didn’t feel good.

No, it was not jealousy. It was some other feeling. His instinct told him that something dangerous is coming. He felt the same way as that night he married.

Cutting hair? Salon?

Leander’s senses tingled. He checked his phone if he got any messages.

He had a text, one from the chauffer.

Oh, Mousy... what are you doing now?

"What’s this habit?" Peter threw his dirty napkin at Leander. The napkin fell into Leander’s bowl of porridge. "Turn off the phone while you’re at the table! Is this a house or what? Don’t you know respect?" he shouted.

Evander cleared his throat and placed the phone on the table. Viola patted her eldest son’s shoulder in affection as if she was asking him not to mind the slight.

Leander pressed his lips and placed the phone back in his pocket. "I’m sorry grandpa," he said in a flat tone.

Peter cleared his throat. "Your brother wants to marry Hosea Donatello’s daughter," Peter said to Leander. "You don’t mind that she used to be~"

"No," Leander shrugged. "If brother wants to marry her, he can. I give him my hearty wishes," he looked at the napkin now soaked in the runny porridge.

Thank goodness! I’m saved!

"Get him biscotti!" Peter shouted at the maid. "Who eats runny porridge so early in the morning? Is he a sick little boy?"

Viola shrinked in her seat. She wanted to say that this is healthier for the heart, but she didn’t dare to speak.

Leander waved his hand and stood up. "Something came up, grandpa. I have to leave. I’m fu~"

"SIT!!!"

Before Leander finished his sentence, Peter shouted. Leander didn’t want to anger his grandfather further and sat down.

"Eat before you leave," Peter said. His voice was gentle than before.

"Yes, grandpa," Leander answered without even looking at him.

He will have to listen to his grandfather. He cannot show attitude to his grandfather. His grandfather can throw dirty towel in his food and he should stay silent. And when he offers another plate of food as if nothing has happened, he should accept that too.

Another plate was placed in front of him. This time, it was the biscotti he wanted. But he was not hungry anymore.

"Did any of Paul’s men came to you?" Peter asked.

Leander lifted his head to look at Peter. Should he tell the truth that he turned to the fertilizer for his roses?

"No, grandpa. Is something the issue?" he asked with his eyebrows knitted and leaned forward as if he was interested to listen.

"I asked Paul to do some digging for me. It was unlike for him to not do it immediately. I still haven’t..." Peter looked far away in contemplation.

"What do you want to investigate, grandpa? I’ll put some of my men to it," Leander said.

He could see through his peripheral vision; his mother was pinching Evander probably to push him to offer help. But Evander was looking annoyed and wanted to leave. His eyes were on the phone.

Leander cringed after he knew his brother is acting this way for a kid! Ewww!

"Will you?" Peter sighed. "Never mind... It’s... I’ll resolve it..."

"Okay..." Leander said.

"You’re still not talking to the Waldorf heir?" Peter asked.

That got the attention of Evander. Leander saw the smirk on his lips. He knew his brother was the one who sent him the pictures of Lionel in his house. He had successfully identified his brother’s spy in his house. But he left them be.

He cleaned his house, nonetheless.

"Ah, it’s... I should have known better... He’s..." Leander sighed.

He didn’t want to give out the details of his fight with Lionel to his family. But by now Evander will be believing that he succeeded.

"Find a way to get along..." Peter said. "Women come and go."

Leander looked at his grandfather as his heart skipped a beat. He thought his brother arranged for it. But was he under his grandfather’s instruction?

Without saying much, he stood up and left. Peter looked at his plate that was left untouched and fisted his hands.

He didn’t refuse him when he ordered to eat the biscotti. But still, he dared to leave without eating it. He is not wearing his signet ring, but he is wearing his wedding band.

Leander is out of it. He’s no longer the boy he raised. He’s turned into a monster he should be afraid of.

Maybe he should get the signet ring back. He says he does not want it, right?

------

Viviana got out of the cabin before the entire process was finished. She didn’t want to be there when the stream ended.

As she stepped out of the cabin, Beulah asked her politely if she wanted to look elsewhere. Viviana shrugged. Although Beulah tried to be polite about it, it appeared that she wanted her to leave the salon.

Just who is Nadia’s sponsor? Those people are afraid of crossing him!

Viviana understood that he should be at least of the same status as Leander Kastello. Maybe her guess was right...? Maybe ... It’s cringe... But she won’t put Evander over it.

Still, not her issue.
