Leander smiled seeing her reaction. When she kissed his cheek, he didn’t know why his heart skipped a beat. She was happy and he got exhilarated.

And it seems like she cries when she is happy too. She must have a separate compartment in her skull to store her tears.

She was adorable as she looked at the ring. It was obvious that she loved the ring.

She thought she wouldn’t wear a wedding ring. She thought she would die. But here she is, on his lap, as his wife. And she is happy. That’s all he needed from her.

But he could see the smile leaving her face. And her face went pale.

His heart skipped a beat. He knew once she gets this way, her eyes will turn to distant eyes and she will speak hurtful words. And he will end up hurting her in return.

He didn’t want that to happen.

But what can he do?

It was then he remembered that the boy who sold him the ring told him that his girlfriend will love the ring. After all, he said, ’what means the most for her is what you feel about her.’

He didn’t tell her what he feels about her. Is that why she is mad?

But she doesn’t feel great about him! And...

He looked at her. And she looked at him. Her eyes were red and her lips were trembling. He didn’t see hatred in her eyes as he predicted. He saw despair.

"Mousy," he held her cheek.

The water splashed and Viviana gulped as the warmth of the water reduce as it dripped down her cheeks, through her neck, and into her dress.

"Do you even know the meaning of the ring, Kas~" she shook her head. "Never mind... It’s...not important."

It’s not important the meaning behind the ring. There might be none. But what if there was some other meaning? What if he meant it?

She knew there is no reason for Leander Kastello to like her. Of all the women out here, why her? If she thinks that he likes her, she is deluded.

But if by some off chance, Leander fell for her, what can she do about it? Can she fall for Leander Kastello?

"I knew the meaning," he said, pinching her chin to face him. Her big eyes were open wide and her pink lips were cold water perched on as pearls, trembled. "I knew what each of those rings meant when I bought it."

Yes, he meant to have her as his wife for all eternity.

Viviana shuddered as a chill passed down her spine. Maybe she was the only one who would react to a confession with utter terror. What does he mean by that?

"You are my wife. I married YOU! And you will be my wife forever." He spoke, his voice shaking as it came out of his heart. If she can tell him that she was in the Abenney fire, he can tell her this much.

Viviana gulped. She was shocked beyond belief. On one hand, her maiden heart was skipping in joy hearing such wonderful words. On the other hand, her rationality reminded her that there is no way Leander Kastello would say that to her because he loved her.

There was no mention of love or like even. How can she let her heart take control? She listened to her mind.

"Yes, because I am married into the Kastello family. The rest of my life will be..." She couldn’t finish her sentence.

She didn’t make sense. But more than that, he didn’t make any sense.

Leander held her cheek and bowed to her level. "Is it that hard, Mousy? Is it that hard to be my wife? As Leander’s wife?" he asked.

He wanted to know. She makes sure she calls him "Kastello". She does it so that she doesn’t forget who he is. But can’t she see him for who he is and not which family he belongs to?

Viviana scooted back. She didn’t know what to answer him. He seemed serious. But what can she answer him?

That’s the question she can never give an answer to.

He is from the Kastello family. The Kastello family destroyed her. He himself confessed that he is responsible for the death of her parents. He did so just because he is from the Kastello family. Otherwise, her family had no other connection to him.

How can he ask her to forget from where he hailed?

He is Kastello.

But she didn’t dare to tell him what she felt. Not because of fear of retaliation, but out of fear that she might hurt him.

Leander waved his hand. Her eyes gave him the answer. At least she doesn’t look at him with hatred like she used to. She looked apologetic.

He is to be blamed for that.

"You are a woman belonging to the Kastello family," he confirmed her belief. "And that gives you certain responsibilities and powers. I’ve changed the staff for your convenience. You are the co-pilot of this craft," he added. "You’ll have people who wait on you all the time..." he said and stood up.

he then picked up the other ring in the box and wore it on his finger.

"You’re going to wear a wedding ring?" she asked.

As far as she knew, the heirs to the mafia families only wear their signet rings. And most men in mafia families won’t wear their wedding rings. Even if they wear it, they won’t treat it as anything meaningful.

"I am a married man, aren’t I?" he smirked. His voice turned distant as he pecked her forehead.

Viviana hugged her knees and in the gentle rocking of the water, she tried to soothe herself. She didn’t understand a thing that happened here.

And then it hit her.

"You’re a jerk, Kastello!" she shouted. "Just kill me!"

For a minute, he made her heart waver.

But now he has made her more of a target for his grandfather. His grandfather already does not like her. And if he learns that Leander is doing everything under her guidance (which is not really the case, but Leander tries hard to make it seem this way), and that he is henpecked, she is going to be in much more danger.

Leander chuckled and waved as he wrapped the towel around his waist. "I’m not going to kill you, wife!"

And I won’t let anyone hurt a hair on your head!

She is right to get angry at him. She is smart to see through his intent. But she does not know the whole story.

She does not know his heart.

He is putting her in danger for a reason. It is better that she knows that she is in danger. He just hoped that she wouldn’t surrender herself.
