Chapter 126: The Ring
Chapter 126: The Ring
Leander’s big hand pressed against her lower back, pulling her closer to him.
She’s saying that she can never be happy because of her evilness. If she can’t be happy because she is evil, why is he happy even when he is the devil incarnate?
Or maybe he is not happy? What is happiness?
Leander, for the first time in his life, pondered about something deep in his heart that he never ventured. He had lived a very shallow life. And maybe he never was happy. He never was content. He was looking for something.
Maybe she is the answer. That’s why he couldn’t kill her and is besotted with her. It’s not her appearance, but something that she holds within.
Ever since he met her he’s learned that his foot is not on solid ground but he was standing in shallow, murky water. He couldn’t see his reflection. Only when the water beneath his feet clears, will he see his true self, he thought.
He shook his head. As he knew, this woman is dangerous. She makes his foundation tremble. He need not reexamine his life at his age.
She, and Lionel too.
Lionel was wrong. He should have been allowed to be ignorantly blissful.
He sighed.
All he wanted was to see her jump for joy at the ring he bought for her after looking everywhere! But why are they here?
He looked at her, leaning on his chest with her hands clasped together against his chest. Wet blanket! But whenever she is leaning on him, he ceases to exist. His desire to protect her will be the one thing that rules every fiber of his being.
And right now, she is sad. He cannot allow her to be sad.
He opened the box at the side and took out the little ring. It won’t fit even on his little finger. It was small, but it looked adorable—her finger. He wanted to not stress her pretty little fingers so he didn’t go for a bigger ring although he wanted to make it obvious that she is his.
If left to him, he would have brought the ring that was designed with "Leo" on the face with glittering diamonds. But he knew she won’t be able to carry it. So, he got a small ring. It’s only worth three hundred grand.
A ring fit for the little mouse that scurried her way into his life and ended up on his bed!
He tipped the boy who showed him the ring ten grand. He gave a detailed explanation of the meaning behind that ring. He liked the meaning behind that ring. He wanted to know what she thinks of it.
If she didn’t like it or wanted something else, he could bring her to the shop tomorrow.
Viviana listened to his heartbeat. It calmed down after some time but then it started to race again. She realized that she was leaning on him for a considerable amount of time and she might have angered him. Before she could get out of his hold, he grabbed her hand.
She looked at him.
Leander had a soft expression on his face. He even was smiling a little. "Start feeding the right wolf then," he said.
She was staring at his face as his lips moved. And the words he uttered were so...touching.
Before she could react, she saw him slipping something on her finger.
A ring! He really got me a ring! I am getting a wedding ring!
Her hands went cold as she was nervous. She opened her mouth to say something, but she couldn’t get the words out. She observed the stacked wedding ring that now adorned her finger.
The finger, she thought would be empty her entire life is no longer empty. A ring, much more beautiful than any ring she had ever seen was adorning her finger. The three rings were fused together to form a beautiful design.
She never was a fan of jewelry, but how can yellow gold and diamond on her finger make her entire hand so pretty? And the ring... How can such a beautiful ring exist? There are three rings but it is one ring.
One simple wedding band, one engagement ring with beautiful diamonds, and an... Eternity ring(?)
She gulped and her eyes filled with tears.
Eternity ring?
She didn’t know whether he knew the meaning behind the eternity ring or not. It’s... the beautiful array of diamonds set around the ring that symbolizes everlasting love...
Does he know? Does he mean it?
He asks her to feed the right wolf and offers her the eternity ring. What should she think about this? Because her lonely heart will find meaning behind this and would hang on to hope.
Is he really telling her to make good memories and forget her past? Is he saying that she has a future?
She thinks that her life was over on that ledge. She is on borrowed time. Why is he confusing her with such a meaningful gift?
What should she do when she wants to hold on to this ring as a promise and walk with him? How can a simple ring make her feel like her time has not ended yet and that she too has a chance for happiness?
How can she be this vulnerable? Is she that desperate?
Tears rolled down her cheek. Supporting her hands on his shoulders she lifted herself and kissed his cheek. "It’s so pretty..." she said. "I never thought I’d wear a wedding ring..."
Her vision was blurred and she couldn’t see a thing. She wiped her eyes and took another look at the ring. She giggled like a child who got her favorite present for Christmas.
This truly is something she never thought that she would get.
You got a ring, Melanie!
She couldn’t control her grin. But then reality hit her.
Yeah, because she knew no man would be fool enough to wife her up. And Leander Kastello of all men out there has no reason to wife her up.
Her smile vanished as she saw her worthless self as who she is.
A barren!
This wedding is not a real wedding. This ring is...
This ring is...
