Chapter 120: Leander’s Plan

Chapter 120: Leander’s Plan

After lunch, Leander brought her for a walk outside. This was the first time she had a chance to look around his house and she looked around with awe. She always thought that having more money than needed is not going to give anything worthwhile.

She thought wrong. Money can buy an awful lot of good things. The pavement, the patio, the garden, and even the outdoor lamps looked different than the ones she was used to.

She saw a big tree that she would see from the big window in her room. From another angle, she could see that one of the branches was so perfect for a swing.

"You can hang a swing here..." she told him. "Kids would love that. And you can make a doll house... that tree would be perfect for a tree house..."

Leander stared at her back as she walked to the front. It seemed like a seemingly innocuous sentence. But there was so much behind that.

When she looks at this place and thinks of ways to fill it up, her thought goes to children. She is talking about swings and parks for his children—the children she will never be able to have. That means, she is talking about a future where she won’t be alive.

After everything she said about wanting the end of his family, here she is... talking about his children. Why is she this way?

It hurt.

His phone vibrated. He picked it up and checked. It was his grandfather. He stared at his phone until the call ended. He then put it back in his pocket after turning off the vibration. He did not want to talk to his grandfather now. He needs to prepare his heart to stand in front of his grandfather with the same sense of loyalty as before.

This woman ruined everything for him. He was blissfully oblivious to everything and now...

Watching her back, he imagined a day without her. She’d be gone from his life and he’ll be... It was a scary thought. One that made his heart squeeze in pain.

His phone vibrated again. And again. He gave up and answered his phone.

"Leander, what is going on with you?" Peter asked the moment he answered the phone.

"Nothing... the usual, grandpa. Why? What’s the matter?" he asked.

"Where are you?" Peter asked. "Did you really leave the city without my knowledge last night? Why didn’t you inform me?"

"I just took a drive," Leander said not letting his annoyance show in his voice. He didn’t remember Evander ever telling his grandfather even when he leaves the country. His grandfather would laugh and wire him money. Why is he treated differently?

"I want to stay in the resort in Abenney, grandpa..." Leander said.

Honestly, he didn’t know why he said that. But he did. Viviana heard him say the name of her hometown and stopped in her tracks. Her heart started racing.

"Abenney?" Peter asked. "Why there?"

"For my honeymoon. With my wife," Leander said. He had no idea why he was saying those things. But like something that was kept under tight wraps is getting released from inside his heart, he felt invigorated as he said that name. And at the same time, a wave of pain hit him like a tsunami.

"Did your wife put you up to it? Is she the one wanting to go there?" Peter asked.

Leander let out a deep sigh. That was an odd question. Had he didn’t know that his grandfather wanted to investigate her, he would have taken it just as a curiosity. But he knew it was not just curiosity.

There is something his grandfather is hiding about the fire in Abenney. Russo must have known about it and maybe he lost his life for it. And now his grandfather is doubting Russo’s "daughter" because he is worried about how much she knows.

Lionel came to his mind. He knows something.

"No. Never mind, grandpa. I have a lot of work. I don’t have time to spare for a honeymoon," he said in a jovial tone. "I just... it’s better for me to not go there...I’m only free of my nightmares lately."

Heaven knows how hard it was for him to speak casually with his grandfather. He knew his grandfather does not respect his words. He does not treat him as trustworthy. After he mentions Abenney to his grandfather, he will do something.

And he will find the truth. Just by observing his grandfather.

He looked at the woman in front of him supporting herself at the trunk of the tree. That city definitely means something to her. But she is stupid and won’t tell him anything.

She is his bait. She is right that he is putting her in danger. But that doesn’t mean that he will let her die.

He will protect her. He will protect her against everyone—his family, his enemies, and even against her stupid self!

It’s funny. He always arrives at this conclusion. Maybe he should stick to his conviction and not waver.

She looked petrified, but then brought up her obnoxious smile on her face when she looked at him. She then acted as if everything was fine.

Stupid!

After walking for a while, she got tired. She was yawning and her eyes reddened out of sleep. He wanted to rest too. He didn’t sleep the entire night. After having a hearty meal, he was feeling tired. He needs his rest. He has a lot of things to do.

"Your hair is turning orange again..." he said noticing it shine differently in the sunlight.

"Already?" she pouted and looked at her hair. Pain. There was pain on her face. He felt like the belting that woman received was not enough. His wife’s pain is not equal to the pain that the brat felt. She should suffer more.

"Visit a salon and get a massage or... what do they call it? Spa day?" he said with a smile.

"I can leave the house?" she raised her brows. He expected happiness but she was confused.

"Yeah, you can. And you can plant seeds in the patches if you want to," he held her cheek.

Viviana couldn’t believe that he agreed to her requests. And she didn’t think that he caved for a moment because he was afraid, she would reveal his secrets. His eyes looked sad. And by mentioning Abenney, he was trying to do something. She didn’t understand what it was.

Whatever it is, she is not going to be alive for long.

"What do you want for your birthday?" she asked holding his hand. "I have ninety dollars!" she playfully raised her brows.

Right now, she only has him. Maybe she should keep her promise before she dies. The ferryman wouldn’t want her ninety dollars when she’s dead. Maybe she will leave something memorable for him so that he will remember her until the end.

"Anything..." he shrugged. "Surprise me!"

He didn’t know what she could get for that money. But she is resourceful, he guessed. She will find something. And whatever it is, he will treasure it.
