Chapter 402: One More

Asqa’s mind was racing. She was thinking of ways to help Clyde. If Clyde was currently fighting Hades and Gabriel, the arrival of Zeus would definitely put him at a disadvantage, no matter how much power he had.

But what could she do? Fighting Zeus—who wasn’t coming alone but with his army—was basically suicide. Even though she was much stronger than before, Asqa understood well that she couldn’t go up against a real higher being, especially one as powerful as Zeus.

"What can I do?"

Asqa kept thinking, but she still couldn’t find a solution.

Suddenly, something struck her head. It was a strong force, enough to make her grimace in pain. This was the first time she had ever felt anything like it.

"If you want to help the Catalyst, you can do it by accepting my power."

A strange voice suddenly struck her mind and heart at once. Thankfully, there were no soldiers left around her, or she would’ve become an easy target in this state.

"W... Who are you..." Asqa asked inside her head.

"I’m the one who gave Clyde his power," the voice replied.

"The... the Ancient One?"

"You can call me that. We don’t have time. I’m not strong enough to manifest into a physical body right now, so I can’t help Clyde directly. And there’s only a limited amount of power he can receive at this moment. Tell me, do you want to accept my power?" the Ancient One asked, wasting no time, the urgency in his tone palpable.

When she looked up, she saw Zeus and his army beginning to move. She had to decide now.

"Yes!" Asqa nodded.

"Good. I’ll give you my power. But the amount you receive won’t be as much as my Catalyst."

After that, the Ancient One’s voice vanished. What came next was a sensation like something was exploding from within her essence. It unraveled her body, mind, and soul.

This was the same power Clyde wielded, so Asqa had expected her body to be shocked. But she hadn’t expected it to feel like this.

"Urghhh..." Asqa groaned. Her body convulsed. Then, in the next second, it was gone. Her condition returned to normal.

She looked at her hands and saw a dark mist curling around her fingers—just like Clyde’s. The power was now inside her.

Asqa nodded to herself. Then, she sheathed her dagger and drew her wand. The wand absorbed her magic power, now merged with the Ancient One’s power, and also emitted the dark mist. She aimed it at Zeus’s army.

She activated her [Infernal Bloom] skill, now reinforced with both the wand’s power and the Ancient One’s energy. A huge fireball—ten meters in diameter—appeared instantly. Its edges curled with dark mist, and the flame had turned much darker.

Zeus turned, sensing it. But before he could shout an order, the massive fireball shot toward his army.

ZWOOOSH!!!

The fireball launched at them with incredible speed, cutting the distance in an instant.

Zeus’s eyes narrowed. He knew his army couldn’t possibly move fast enough to evade it.

With a sharp motion, he thrust his hand forward. Thunder surged from his palm, arcing across the sky. In a flash, a massive barrier of lightning formed before his soldiers and become a dome of raw Celestial energy.

The fireball struck and hit it.

BOOM!

The resulting explosion lit the entire battlefield in a blinding burst of light and shadow. The roar that followed shattered stone, tore through wind, and flung many of Zeus’s warriors off their feet.

The already-ruined domain of Gabriel cracked further, the golden citadels collapsing. The shockwave spread outward, obliterating what remained of the once-holy land.

Bu Asqa didn’t stop. She raised her wand again.

Another fireball surged into existence, even larger this time, its core writhing with blackened flames and dark mist. Her breathing remained steady. Her limbs were light. There was no fatigue and no limit to her now. It was as if the magic flowed endlessly through her like a river directly connected to the essence of the Ancient One.

She launched the fireball. Then, another one again.

Each one roared to life within a second, and each was fired without hesitation, turning the sky into a storm of dark fire.

Zeus’s expression darkened. He saw the second fireball coming. His jaw clenched.

"The abominations have found an ally..." he thought grimly. "One strong enough to wield power like this. I haven’t seen their face yet, but I can feel that this one is not simple either."

He raised both hands now, calling down more divine lightning to reinforce his barrier.

But even as the light gathered around him and thunder rumbling in defiance, doubt crept into his heart.

He hadn’t expected this to happen. Since when did that abomination have ally?!

Zeus gritted his teeth. This could not continue. He had to push back.

With a growl of frustration, Zeus raised his hands high. Lightning surged through his arm and into the sky. Then, with a fierce downward swing, he unleashed a powerful wave of force not to destroy the fireballs, but to redirect them.

The air cracked open as a thunderous blast collided with the oncoming fireballs. The flames screamed through the air as Zeus’s power swerved them off-course, sending them crashing into the scorched ruins to the left of his formation.

Massive plumes of smoke and fire erupted.

He turned toward them immediately. "Don’t stand there! Attack! Crush whoever dares interfere!"

The Celestial soldiers responded with mechanical precision. With a battle cry, they charged forward, racing toward the source of the dark fire now that the barrier had dissipated.

And then Zeus saw her.

Amid the smoke and burning air stood a lone figure. She is small, barely more than a silhouette at first. But as the embers cleared, her form came into focus.

A woman. Slender, black-haired, with a pale wand still crackling with heat in her hand.

Her silver cloak was singed, but her eyes burned with the same strange power like the abomination. Black mist curled around her feet, her fingers. The same presence he had felt radiating from the abomination.

Asqa lifted her wand again, undaunted by the incoming soldiers. They were charging at full speed. But Asqa didn’t flinch. Instead, she smiled.

She extended her hand, conjuring a half-dozen smaller fireballs that spun around her. Her eyes locked onto the oncoming army.

With a flick of her wand, the six fireballs howled through the air, weaving and curving mid-flight with unnatural agility. Each one targeted a different squad of soldiers.

Explosions lit up the battlefield again, screams following in their wake.
