Chapter 356: Defeat
Chapter 356: Defeat
At this point, there was no use in hesitating. If he did, Asmodeus would only get another chance to power up, making things even more difficult for him.
With [Tidebreaker] active, Angelic power surging through his body, and a slight infusion of Demon power to increase his resistance to Hellfire, Clyde shot toward Asmodeus.
FWOOOSSHH!
This time, Clyde took the initiative, closing the distance first. In the blink of an eye, he was upon the Demon King, swinging his clear blade.
Asmodeus raised both hands to block the attack, but even then, he was forced backward. He gritted his teeth and lashed out with a kick.
Twisting his body, Clyde narrowly avoided the strike. Instead, he pivoted his sword and swung in a fast arc toward Asmodeus’ leg.
CLANG!
Elderglass met flesh, but before it could cut through, a surge of Hellfire erupted around Asmodeus’ leg, stopping the blade just inches away.
Clyde pushed harder, straining against the burning resistance. Finally, his sword pierced through the Hellfire, but by then, Asmodeus had already withdrawn his leg and leapt backward.
While still airborne, Asmodeus fired a dozen or more fireballs toward Clyde.
BOOM!
BOOM!
BOOM!
...
Clyde leapt to evade, dodging as many as he could. When escape wasn’t an option, he parried with his sword, but the fireballs exploded on contact, scorching him with searing heat.
Fortunately, he quickly extinguished the flames with his Angelic and water-infused power.
In retaliation, Clyde unleashed brilliant arcs of water toward Asmodeus. Just like the fireballs, the water slashes exploded on impact.
A pained scream echoed through the battlefield. Asmodeus had been wounded.
Clyde didn’t hesitate. The moment Asmodeus cried out in pain he pushed forward, closing the distance in a flash.
Water surged around him, rippling like a living entity as he swung his Elderglass blade in a deadly arc.
Asmodeus’ flames flared in response, coiling around his arms like molten chains. He met Clyde’s strike with a burning claw, sparks flying as water and fire clashed violently.
The ground beneath them shattered from the sheer force, sending chunks of molten rock flying in every direction.
Clyde twisted his sword, redirecting the force of the impact and using the momentum to unleash another incredibly fast slash.
Asmodeus managed to pull back in time, but a thin line of glowing blue cut across his chest, sizzling as Angelic-infused water burned into his flesh.
His eyes widened in disbelief. That sword... that power—!
"GRAAAHHH!!!"
With a furious snarl, Asmodeus retaliated. He immediately spreading his wings wide before launching himself skyward in a trail of black fire.
From above, he raised both hands, summoning a spiraling inferno between his palms.
"PERISH IN ASHES, FILTHY HUMAN!"
A colossal pillar of Hellfire roared down toward Clyde like a falling sun. The sheer heat distorted the air, the floating landmasses melting before the flames could even touch them.
But Clyde stood his ground. He planted his feet firmly and thrust his sword skyward, focusing all of his magic power into his sword.
The water around him surged upward in a massive brilliant spiraling vortex, forming a towering tidal wave that crashed against the descending inferno.
SSSSHHHHHHH!!
Steam exploded everywhere in a deafening hiss, blinding the battlefield as fire and water annihilated each other in a catastrophic collision.
For a moment, everything disappeared in the thick white mist.
Then...
SLASH!
Clyde burst through the steam, his sword gleaming with divine light as he sliced at Asmodeus’ midsection.
KRRAAKK!
The Demon King barely managed to block the strike with his arm, but the sheer force sent him hurtling backward, slamming into the jagged remains of a ruined building in one of the landmass.
Coughing, Asmodeus staggered to his feet, flames crackling wildly around his broken body. He glared at Clyde, his fury burning hotter than ever.
"You...! I refuse to be defeated by a mere human!"
With a furious roar, he slammed his hands together, and the ground beneath them split apart. A tidal wave of molten lava erupted from below and spewing forth.
Clyde leaped back, barely dodging as the searing heat grazed past him.
Gathering all his strength, he launched himself forward, breaking the sound barrier with sheer speed.
Elderglass sword hummed in his hands, glowing with his accumulated magic power.
Asmodeus saw him coming but this time, it was too late.
With a devastating strike, Clyde drove his blade straight through Asmodeus’ chest.
Asmodeus’ eyes widened as he realized what had just happened. He stared at Clyde—the only human who had ever managed to land such a devastating attack on him.
Clyde’s face was rigid, his jaw clenched, a clear sign that even he was beginning to struggle with this battle. But in the end, Asmodeus had to admit—Clyde was strong.
"You... you think this is enough?!" Asmodeus snarled. "I—"
Before he could finish his sentence, an unbearable pain spread from the sword impaling his chest, radiating through his entire body like wildfire.
He had assumed he would be able to regenerate, just as he always had. But this time was different. This was an attack unlike anything he had ever endured—a fusion of Angel, Demon, and Water energy, combined with Clyde’s raw magical power.
That combination was wreaking havoc on his body, tearing through his very essence. He had underestimated Clyde simply because he was human.
And now, he was paying the price for his arrogance.
"Urghh..."
A strained groan escaped Asmodeus’ lips as Clyde pressed his sword in deeper, the tip piercing through his back.
Killing him now would be the logical choice. After all, Clyde could feel the Demon King’s hatred in every glare, in every word he had spoken.
But then, another thought crossed his mind.
"Do you still want to live?" Clyde asked.
Asmodeus, his face contorted in pain, looked at Clyde in confusion. "What... what do you mean?"
"I can give you a second chance," Clyde said. "You once spoke of that strange power you had seen before, didn’t you? I can give it to you."
Asmodeus’ eyes widened in shock. What did he mean by that? How could Clyde possibly grant him such power?
