Chapter 305: Next Clash
Chapter 305: Next Clash
Uriel clenched her fists, her nails digging into her palms as she watched Belial streak toward the monstrous dragon.
The wind from the battlefield carried the scent of sulfur mixing with the oppressive energy emanating from the Black Wall and the dragon itself.
She still wanted to act and lash out and fight, to do something rather than just stand and watch. But Gabriel’s glare held her in place.
"You can see it, Uriel," he said with firm voice. "The monsters are getting stronger. Something is changing."
Uriel turned her gaze toward the battlefield. He wasn’t wrong.
The higher beings soldiers were fighting harder than ever before. Yet, where they once tore through these creatures with ease now they struggled.
A golden-clad Celestial warrior swung his spear at one of the abominations but the creature twisted mid-strike and shifting into something harder then prepared for the attack. The spear shattered, and before the warrior could react, the monster’s claws pierced through his chest.
A Demon army wrapped in swirling flames unleashed a torrent of hellfire upon a massive many limbed beast. For a moment, it seemed effective. The creature shrieked and writhing in agony. But then, its blackened skin cracked open, revealing fresh untouched flesh beneath.
It was adapting. They were all adapting.
Uriel exhaled sharply, forcing herself to let go of her sword.
"I guess you’re right," she admitted.
Gabriel’s expression softened, but only slightly. His gaze remained locked on the battlefield, his silver wings also start to twitching with unease.
"Is this really because we sent those three inside?" he asked, his voice quieter now.
Uriel stiffened.
"I don’t know, Gabriel!" she snapped, her frustration spilling over.
The other Celestials and even the Demons had been whispering about about her. About how it was her decision to send scouts beyond the Wall. About how the Black Wall’s changes must have been because of that reckless action.
And maybe they were right.
Maybe she had been so desperate for answers, so tired of waiting in the unknown, that she had pushed too far.
A cold weight settled in her chest.
Gabriel noticed the shift in her expression and sighed.
"I know why you proposed that we did it," he said, his tone less harsh now. "We all wanted answers and we support you. But we can’t afford to make things worse."
Uriel’s hands trembled at her sides. She wanted to argue and say that they needed someone to take risks and saying that just waiting will led them nowhere.
But as she looked at the battlefield, at the growing chaos, at the black dragon that should not exist, she couldn’t ignore the guilt curling in her gut.
Maybe... maybe it really was her fault.
"KHRAAAAKH!!!"
A sudden, earth-shaking roar cut through the air, pulling her from her thoughts.
The dragon had finally unleashed its black fire.
A torrent of pure destruction rained down toward the battlefield and Belial, swallowing the land in an obsidian blaze. The air cracked under the pressure and the ground melted into liquid stone.
And at the center of it was Belial.
Uriel’s eyes narrowed as the flames engulfed him.
For a moment, there was nothing but black fire. Uriel and Gabriel and the other higher beings waiting to see the outcome.
Then—
The flames split apart. A red streak cut through the inferno like a burning presence who refusing to be consumed.
Belial emerged, his greatsword slicing through the dragon’s breath, parting the fire as if it were mere mist.
His armor was burned in places and his exposed skin scorched, but his grin remained.
He was laughing.
Uriel felt her stomach twist. The black fire actually able to hurt Belial.
---
For the first time in centuries, Belial felt real pain.
It burned across his skin. Its a sensation he had almost forgotten. It was fleeting of course. His Demon body repaired itself within seconds, the scorched flesh knitting back together leaving nothing but an uncomfortable tingling reminder.
But that brief moment of vulnerability sent a thrill through him.
His red eyes locked onto the black dragon now hovering before him. Even though its wings were torn and jagged, it held it floating with unsettling grace.
Its dead eyes devoid of emotion but also filled with something far more dangerous.
Awareness.
It wasn’t just another mindless beast from beyond the Wall. Belian can feel that it was studying him as well.
A slow grin stretched across Belial’s face.
"Interesting," he muttered, gripping his greatsword tighter. "Let’s see how deep you can burn."
Then he moved.
With a blur of crimson and steel, Belial vanished from sight and closing the distance between them in an instant. His greatsword came down to slash the dragon’s head, seeking to cleave through scale, skull, and flesh in a single attack.
But the dragon twisted mid-air, its massive body moving with unnatural speed. The attack barely grazed its side and sending a spray of blackened scales into the air, but it did not land the fatal blow Belial had intended.
Instead, the dragon retaliated.
A massive claw swiped toward him. Belial barely had time to raise his blade to intercepting the strike.
The impact of the clash sent a shockwave through the battlefield.
Belial skidded backward and floating in the air. Now he unfurled his Demon wings.
He exhaled sharply. That strength...
Uriel and Gabriel, still watching from above, felt the shift as well.
Uriel’s fingers twitched toward her sword hilt. A sense of unease coiled in her gut.
Belial chuckled, rolling his shoulders. "Not just a mindless beast, are you?" he said. "Good. I was getting bored of killing weaklings."
He surged forward again, his greatsword igniting in hellfire.
The black dragon alsor surged forward and meeting Belial head on in a violent clash.
BOOM!
Their impact sent tremors through the air and shaking the battlefield below. Sparks flew as hellfire met abyssal energy, their powers colliding in a storm of destruction.
But then... Belial’s eyes widened.
A voice, deep and layered with countless echoes, reverberated inside his mind.
"Is this all you got?"
