Chapter 304: Changes
Chapter 304: Changes
Belial stepped out of his tent, the suffocating wind from the Black Wall biting against his exposed skin.
The sky above was dark now, not from clouds or the fall of night but from the presence of something far worse.
The Black Wall — that unknowable structure — had split open again, and from its depths poured a wave of creatures unlike anything Belial had seen in his live before.
This had been happening for so long and until now, there’s still no clue about it. Belial thought that what Uriel did was because of her frustration and he understood that. He just wouldn’t be the one who do the deed.
He glad that Uriel stay true to her personality and send those scouts.
His red eyes gleamed as he took in the sight. These were not the same beasts that had emerged in previous attacks.
Their forms were more twisted and their movements more erratic as if they had been altered or... enraged?
Some of them dragged themselves forward on too many limbs, others shifted their shapes mid-step, rippling between different monstrous forms. Their eyes — when they had eyes — burned with unnatural black fire.
A slow grin spread across his lips.
"So, there was a change after all..."
In the distance, he spotted the Celestials assembling their forces. That gods and goddesses now clad in their radiant divine armor and stood at the ready. Their banners unfurled, their weapons gleaming like captured starlight.
And beyond them, he saw Uriel and Gabriel with expressions tight with barely concealed panic.
Belial chuckled at the sight. He had rarely seen Archangels this unprepared.
"Good."
It was a rare delight to see them in distress. For too long, they had walked as if they were above all others with their so-called "divine will" dictating the course of existence.
But now? Now, they stood on the edge of the unknown, just as vulnerable as anyone else. And Uriel finally realized her reckless action.
He exhaled slowly while grinning, feeling the weight of his greatsword at his side.
He wasn’t even wearing his true battle armor right now. He just wearing the first layer which is a black leather armor with streaks of deep crimson running through it.
The other Demon Kings had left this duty to him, believing that his presence alone was enough to stand against whatever came from the Wall.
And they were right.
Belial narrowed his gaze at the monstrous horde. The change in their appearance was unsettling. The Archangels had sent scouts beyond the Wall before this attack. Did their meddling really the one that causing this? Or was this something else entirely?
"Zaradorn," he called out without looking.
His general who now already clad in full crimson armor stood at the front of the Demon army and barking out orders to the assembled legions turned at him.
"Yes, Your Majesty?" Zaradorn’s voice boomed through the battlefield.
Belial took one last look at the swirling chaos beyond the Wall before smirking.
"Kill them all. But keep an eye on any that seem different."
Zaradorn bowed his head in acknowledgment. "Understood."
Then, the first war horns blared across the battlefield.
With a deafening roar, the armies of the Celestials, Archangels, and Demons surged forward. A tide of higher beings warriors colliding against the writhing mass of Black Wall monstrosities.
Magical steel met black flesh. Magic erupted in violent bursts. The land trembled beneath the weight of thousands locked in battle.
Belial watched for a moment longer, then drew his greatsword from his side with a slow deliberate motion. The dark blade thrummed in his grip, pulsing with a power that feels ancient and hungry for souls.
And with a single step, he vanished from where he stood then reappearing above the battlefield.
He hovered above the battlefield with his greatsword resting on his shoulder as he looking at the chaos below.
From here, the scale of the battle became clearer. What should have been a one sided slaughter like before had turned into a grueling fight.
The monsters that once crumbled under the might of the powerful warriors of the higher beings like him were changing. Their bodies that easily torn apart had hardened. Their attacks also had become deliberate and feels almost strategic.
And it was working.
Across the battlefield, the once-mighty armies of Angels, Demons, and Celestials were struggling.
Wounded soldiers littered the ground in a matter of seconds, some still dragging themselves back into the fight, others lying motionless in pools of their own blood.
The clash of steel and magic no longer sounded triumphant — it was desperate now.
Belial turned his gaze toward the Celestial and Angelic sector of the battlefield. Even from a distance he could see the way their expressions had shifted.
They no longer hold that insufferable confidence. Their faces were hard now, dimmed with the weight of realization, just like him.
They saw it too. The enemy was evolving.
"KHRAAAAAKH!"
A shriek cut through the air.
Belial’s head snapped toward the Black Wall.
Something massive was emerging from there.
First came its claws that looked sharp but jagged and in obsidian black color, dragging deep gouges into the ground as it pulled itself forward.
Then came its wings, massive and tattered but still powerful enough to stir the winds into a frenzy. Its head was serpentine but look more monstrous, crowned with jagged horns, its maw lined with teeth as long as spears.
A dragon.
Not just any dragon, this one was enormous. Ten times larger than the biggest of the beasts below. Its presence alone was suffocating and when it fully pulled itself from the Wall, the battlefield fell into a moment of eerie silence.
Then its eyes found Belial.
Cold. Hungry. A gaze that did not see him as a warrior but as prey.
Belial’s grin widened.
"So, they had something like you hiding in there all this time..."
The dragon opened its maw and from deep within its throat, black fire began to build. The very air around it shimmered with the sheer soffucating heat of the energy it was about to unleash.
Belial chuckled, gripping his greatsword tighter.
"Let’s see your strength, abomination!"
And with that, he shot forward, straight toward the beast.
