Chapter 290: Going To The Abyss

Uriel strode away from Gabriel and the scouts. The fire aura around her body commanding attention even among her seasoned troops.

She approaching a small group of soldiers stationed nearby. With a single glance, she gestured for one of them to step forward.

A young woman emerged from the ranks, her armor worn but well-kept, her expression serious and unflinching. Her hair was dark and tied back in a practical braid, framed a face marked with the quiet resolve of someone who had endured much and survived.

She carried a shortsword at her hip, its hilt wrapped in black leather.

"Elsa," Uriel said with her sharp and commanding voice. "You’ve been chosen. Step forward."

The human soldier, Elsa, obeyed without hesitation, her boots crunching against the hardened earth as she approached. She stopped in front of Uriel and bowed deeply.

"I am ready, my Lady," Elsa said with firm voice.

"Good," Uriel replied. She turned and motioned for Elsa to join Kassiel and Aelarin. "Stand with them. The three of you will undertake this mission together."

Elsa moved to the designated spot, standing shoulder to shoulder with the towering seraph Kassiel and the lithe dark elf Aelarin. Despite the clear differences in their appearances, a shared determination flickered in their eyes.

Uriel turned back to Gabriel. "Prepare the artifact."

Gabriel nodded. Without a word, he extended his hand, and the air around him shimmered with a faint golden light.

Reaching into his personal dimensional storage, he retrieved three simple white cloaks. They appeared ordinary at first glance, but a closer look revealed faint intricate runes woven into the fabric, pulsing gently with divine energy.

Uriel mirrored his actions, her hand slicing through the air as if parting an unseen veil. From her personal dimensional storage, she produced three bracelets, each of them were a delicate circlet of gleaming metal adorned with small glowing stones that shifted colors like liquid fire.

Gabriel held up the cloaks, his voice resonant and calm. "These are among the most powerful artifacts in our possession. Each cloak is imbued with divine protection capable of deflecting blows that would otherwise kill even the most skilled warrior, and also hiding you presence. Wear them well, and they will shield you from harm."

Uriel stepped forward, she raised the bracelets. "And these bracelets are no less powerful. They enhance your awareness and resilience, attuning your senses to the dangers around you. With these, you will move faster, react quicker, and endure longer against the unknown."

The three scouts exchanged glances, awe etched on their faces as they looking at the artifacts.

Kassiel’s amber eyes widened slightly, while Aelarin’s usually composed expression softened with reverence. Elsa clenched her fists briefly, her gaze flickering between the cloak and the bracelet before she stepped forward with a deep bow.

"It is an honor to serve with these, my Lords and Lady," Elsa said, her voice filled with quiet conviction.

Kassiel and Aelarin followed suit, bowing deeply alongside her. "We will not fail you," Kassiel rumbled with his deep voice.

"We are ready for the task," Aelarin added with his firm tone.

Gabriel and Uriel exchanged a brief glance, their shared trust in the scouts was clear.

Gabriel extended the cloaks to each of them, and Uriel carefully placed a bracelet into their hands.

The three scouts accepted the gifts with solemn gratitude, their movements deliberate and reverent.

The three scouts straightened, their new artifacts gleaming faintly in the dim light, their expressions resolute and they all can feel the new power enterinf their body.

Uriel’s voice cut through the silence like a blade. "You have been given the tools to succeed. Now, prove yourselves worthy of the trust we have placed in you."

Gabriel nodded in agreement. He said, "The mission is dangerous but with these artifacts, your chances of survival and success have greatly increased. Go forth, and may the Light guide your path."

The three scouts stood still for a moment, their hands clutching the powerful artifacts they had been entrusted with. Determination flickered in their eyes as they prepared themselves for their sacred task.

Slowly, they began channeling their magic power into the cloaks draped over their shoulders.

Their body immediately transform. The intricate runes on the cloaks shimmered for short moments before their forms faded entirely, vanishing into nothingness.

It was as though they had ceased to exist, their presence erased even to the heightened senses of the Celestials and Demons nearby.

Uriel and Gabriel stood silent, their eyes scanning the space where the scouts had been moments ago. Only the faintest ripple in the air suggested their departure.

Gabriel’s gaze lingered for a moment before he spoke in low but also resolut tone. "May their courage see them through."

The scouts moved in perfect synchrony, the training and resolve of their diverse backgrounds uniting them.

Silent as the wind, they leaped into the sky with faintest distortions marking their ascent. The cloak’s enchantments not only rendered them invisible but also masked the sound of their movements, making them undetectable even to the most perceptive foes.

As they ascended, the chaotic battlefield stretched beneath them. Monstrous black hordes surged across the terrain like a wave of grotesque flesh and claw againts the soldiers from the other sides.

Flying beasts crisscrossed the skies, their roars echoing in the distance. Yet, not a single creature noticed the scouts. The cloaks’ power held their invisibility, allowing the trio to pass unnoticed.

Kassiel, his wings tucked close to his body, led the group. His sharp amber eyes scanned the swarm of aerial monsters darting around them. Aelarin followed closely while Elsa, the least experienced flier among them, focused on maintaining her position without faltering.

The looming black wall grew larger with each passing second. What had seemed like a distant shadow from the ground now towered before them. It was a monolithic barrier that seemed to consume the very light around it.

The surface of the wall writhed with an eerie liquid motion, as though it were alive. A sense of dread began to creep into their hearts, gnawing at the edges of their resolve.

Elsa’s breathing quickened as she gazed at the abyssal structure. Her earlier confidence waned, replaced by the cold grip of fear.

Aelarin, sensing her hesitation, glanced back briefly. His sharp eyes caught the faint shimmer of her cloaked form, and his voice, though low, carried through their telepathic link established by the bracelets.

"Do not falter, human," he said. "Fear is natural, but it cannot stop us now. We press forward."

Kassiel’s deep voice followed, his presence like a beacon of strength. "Focus on the mission. We are armed with purpose and the will of the Light!"

Elsa took a steadying breath after hearing their words. She tightened her grip on the hilt of her shortsword, even though she knew it was unlikely to be used in the immediate future. She steeled herself and pushed forward alongside them.

As they approached the black wall, the air grew heavy, thick distrubing magic that seemed to seep into their very bones.

The temperature dropped, and a faint whispering sound began to echo in their ears – achorus of voices too faint to discern but suffused with menace.

Despite their fear, they pressed on. The scouts were mere specks before the titanic structure.

They flew close to the wall, its surface an ever-shifting mass of shadow and tendrils. Every instinct screamed at them to turn back, but they knew retreat was not an option.
