Chapter 289: Back To The Land

"I understand, My Lord," Aelarin replied. His voice was steady, but Gabriel could hear the subtle nervousness within it. "What is my objective?"

"Reconnaissance. As always," Gabriel said. "I want to know what lies beyond the Black Wall—its structure, its defenses, its purpose. Anything you can uncover could be the key to preventing catastrophe. Return as quickly as you can, but not before completing your mission. And remember, if the risk becomes too great, your survival is more important."

Aelarin straightened, his hand resting lightly on the hilt of the elegant blade at his side. "I will not fail you, my Lord."

Gabriel placed a hand on the elf’s shoulder, his expression softening just enough to reveal his faith in the scout. "I trust you, Aelarin. Prepare yourself now. It will not be long until I will summon you again."

With a slight bow, Aelarin stepped back and exited the chamber, his footsteps swift and purposeful.

Gabriel watched him go, his mind both resolute and restless. He had made his choice, and now, the next move was in the other Archangel’s hands.

As the silence of the chamber returned, Gabriel turned back to the map on the floor. His gaze lingered on the shadowy mark that represented the Black Wall, his jaw tightening. The secrets it held would not remain hidden for long. One way or another, Gabriel would swear that he will uncover the truth, even if it came at great cost.

It didn’t take long before the faint shimmer of a communication orb materialized before him. The golden light coalesced into a sphere, and Michael’s familiar voice was heard.

"I’ve sent my scout," Michael said. "He’ll arrive at your domain shortly."

Gabriel inclined his head toward the orb. "Good."

Minutes later, a gentle knock echoed through the chamber doors, followed by the arrival of Aelarin. The elf entered and stood at attention.

"My Lord," Aelarin said simply.

Gabriel nodded in acknowledgment, then gestured toward a side entrance to the chamber. "Wait there. Michael’s scout will join us momentarily. Once you’re both assembled, I will brief you on the journey."

Aelarin bowed slightly and moved to the designated spot. Gabriel admired his composure; it was one of the reasons he had chosen the elf for such a critical mission.

Not long after, the chamber doors opened once again, and a figure stepped inside. Michael’s scout was a towering seraph with copper-hued skin and wings tipped with bronze feathers. His piercing amber eyes swept the room before he bowed low.

"My Lord Gabriel," the seraph said. "I am Kassiel, sent by Archangel Michael to aid in your mission."

"Welcome, Kassiel," Gabriel said, gesturing for him to stand alongside Aelarin. "You will accompany Aelarin to the Far North and together will uncover the secrets of the Black Wall."

Both scouts stood shoulder to shoulder. Aelarin, lithe and agile, contrasted with Kassiel’s imposing and steadfast presence.

Gabriel stepped forward and extended his hands, channeling divine energy into the space before him. A swirling portal began to form.

"This portal will take you to the Far North," Gabriel said. "From there, you will make your way toward the Black Wall. Remember your objective: reconnaissance and survival. Return with what you learn, and only engage if absolutely necessary."

The portal stabilized, its depths revealing a bleak expanse beyond.

Aelarin stepped forward first, his keen eyes scanning the portal’s threshold before nodding. "I am ready, my Lord."

Kassiel followed, his hand briefly resting on the hilt of one of his blades. "We will not fail," he said.

Gabriel stepped through the portal first, the swirling energy enveloping him as he disappeared into its depths.

Aelarin and Kassiel exchanged a glance before following, their forms vanishing into the shimmering gateway.

The transition was quick and as they stepped out onto solid ground once more, they found themselves in a stark, alien landscape.

The air was tense and thick with anticipation from all of the powerful beings stationed here.

Gabriel’s troops stood in disciplined formations, their expressions hard as their gazes settled on the new arrivals. They said nothing.

Gabriel gestured for Aelarin and Kassiel to follow with purposeful stride as he led them through the ranks of his troops.

The soldiers parted wordlessly, their eyes briefly flicking to the newcomers before returning to their duties.

As they approached the forward lines, the distant sound of battle grew louder. It was a chaotic symphony of steel, roars, and the crackle of flames.

Gabriel brought the two scouts to a stop in front of Uriel’s troops, a stark contrast to his own. Uriel’s soldiers stationed with readyness, their eyes fixed on the battle raging ahead when their leader fights.

Uriel herself was a blur of motion and fire in the middle of the monsters . Her flames danced in the air, scorching the monstrous forms that emerged from the darkness.

Black creatures poured forth relentlessly from the Wall, only to be met with Uriel’s unyielding wrath. Her every strike was a symphony of destruction, the brilliance of her flames illuminating the desolate land in bursts of heat and light.

Gabriel stood silently, his eyes tracking Uriel’s movements. The two scouts remained close, their attention divided between the celestial battle and the chaos.

Uriel’s fiery blade cleaved through another wave of monsters, sending an explosion of ash and smoke into the air. Then, with a powerful slash she unleashed a massive torrent of flame.

The fire surged forward, engulfing the creatures in its path, their shrieks echoing as they disintegrated into nothingness.

Satisfied with her devastating attack, Uriel paused midair, her wings spreading wide as she surveyed the battlefield.

Her sharp eyes caught sight of Gabriel among her troops and without hesitation, she turned toward him.

With a powerful beat of her wings, Uriel soared back toward her forces. As she descended her flame-draped armor glowing with an ethereal intensity.

She landed with a thud, the force of her arrival sending a gust of hot wind rippling through the soldiers.

"Gabriel," she called out. "I see you’ve brought company already. So Michael agree?"

Her gaze shifted to Kassiel and Aelarin. Then she returned her attention to Gabriel, waiting for an explanation.

"He is agree. We can proceed now," Gabriel said.

Uriel nodded. "Good. My scout also ready."
