Chapter 285: Another Cryptic Message

The creature’s massive unblinking eye locked solely on Clyde, its pulsating green glow intensifying as it seemed to understand more about the threat he posed.

Clyde felt a surge of focus now cause he didn’t need to worry about Leyan or Samuel for now. The anomaly had singled him out and that gave his allies the breathing room they needed to regroup or launch their attacks from a distance. He don’t need to fight while protecting them.

The ruined desert landscape sprawled before him, littered with jagged floating landmasses, cracked boulders, and swirling sand.

Clyde charged forward with his full speed. His body becoming a blur of blue and white lightning. The electric magic energy coursing through him and doubled his speed, propelling him with incredible agility.

The massive and grotesque tentacles lashed at him relentlessly, tearing through rock and floating land as they attempted to put him down. Clyde weaved between them with his fluid and precise movement.

A tendril slammed into the ground to his left and sending shards of rock into the air. He jumped over the debris, landing lightly on a piece of floating stone before leaping again.

Another tentacle swung in from the right side this time, but he ducked under it and slid across the sand, the crackling energy around him leaving trails of light and scorched mark in his wake.

His focus was razor-sharp right now, not just his speed that had been enhanced by his System but also his brain function.

Every step brought him closer to the anomaly’s massive eye which stared at him with an intensity that made the air around it feel heavy.

As Clyde closed the distance, the creature’s tentacles became more frantic, their movements become faster and more erratic as though it sensed its vulnerability in front of Clyde’s strength.

Finally, Clyde reached the base of the eye. He didn’t hesitate.

With gritted teeth, he thrust his Elderglass Sword forward, channeling every ounce of the lightning power into the blade. The weapon erupted with a brilliant white and blue light, crackling with pure energy of lightning.

Swooossshh!

The piercing attack struck the eye dead center.

Boom!

A blinding explosion of lightning engulfed the creature’s core and for a moment, the battlefield was drowned in a storm of energy.

The sound of explosion was deafening a well, it becom a crackling roar that echoed across the desert.

The anomaly let out an ear-splitting shriek, its tentacles writhing uncontrollably as the light from Clyde’s attack burned into its core.

Green and black ichor sprayed from the wound, dissolving into the air like smoke, and the oppressive energy radiating from the creature began to waver.

Clyde stood his ground, his sword still focused to the eye as the lightning surged through it. His teeth clenched and his muscles feeld strained as he poured his strength and focus into the attack.

"Just fucking fall already!" he growled through gritted teeth while pouring more of his magic power through the Elderglass Sword into the anomaly’s eye.

The creature’s movements became sluggish, its thrashing tentacles slowing as the energy from Clyde’s assault overwhelmed it.

The green glow in its eye began to flicker, dimming with each passing second.

But the fight wasn’t over yet. Clyde could feel it, a last desperate surge of energy building within the anomaly. He want to end this now to risking too much. But he can’t kill it yet. He still need information.

The flickering light in the creature’s eye gave Clyde a clear sign. His attack was working. It was weakening.

Still gripping his Elderglass Sword, Clyde took a deep breath and made a split-second decision. Instead of continuing to target the eye, he shifted his target.

Retracting his blade from the anomaly’s core, he turned his focus to the writhing tentacles and tendrils that moved around him.

If he could sever its limbs, he could render it defenseless and not able to attack.

Clyde’s body erupted with pure white and blue lightning once emore, the energy coursing through him in waves that crackled audibly across the battlefield.

The air around him shimmered with the heat and power of his skill. His speed increased yet again, his form becoming almost impossible to follow with the naked eye.

The first tentacle lunged toward him, its grotesque and sinewy mass snapping through the air with terrifying force.

Clyde sidestepped at the last possible moment. Then he moving his sword arcing through the air in a brilliant flash of light.

Ssshhhkkk!

The blade cleaved cleanly through the tentacle, severing it in an explosion of green and black ichor.

The detached piece writhed briefly before crumpling to the ground, dissolving into a viscous, smoky puddle.

Two more tendrils whipped toward him from opposite sides. Clyde leaped into the air, spinning mid-flight as his blade sliced through both in one smooth move. He landed lightly on a floating rock, his eyes scanning the battlefield for his next target.

The creature’s movements became more erratic, the remaining tentacles flailing wildly as if in desperation. Clyde didn’t stop.

He moved relentlessly with each step accompanied by the crackling hum of his lightning-infused aura.

Another massive tentacle came crashing down from above, aiming to crush him. Clyde moved to the side, his enhanced agility allowing him to avoid the impact effortlessly.

He attack back immediately and moving his sword slicing upward in a blazing arc.

Shrrk!

The tentacle fell, its severed end spraying ichor as it writhed helplessly.

The ground around Clyde was littered with the remnants of the creature’s limbs, their black and green fluids staining the cracked desert floor.

The oppressive energy radiating from the anomaly was waning, its tentacles no longer able to keep up with Clyde’s assault. In no time, Clyde already severed a lot of the remaining tentacles.

Breathing heavily, Clyde paused for a moment, his eyes locking onto the creature’s central eye once more.

The green glow was faint now and flickering weakly like a dying ember. The anomaly’s thrashing movements had slowed, its limbs reduced to a fraction of their former number.

He could feel it. He have won.

Samuel and Leyan watched from afar, their expressions a mixture of awe and disbelief. The battlefield lay strewn with the remnants of the anomaly’s tentacles and Clyde stood amidst the carnage like a storm, his Elderglass Sword still crackling faintly with residual lightning energy.

"Did you see that movement?" Leyan asked.

"I only saw white and blue light moving... and then the tentacles were just gone," Samuel replied.

"Yeah, me too," Leyan admitted, swallowing hard. "He’s faster than the last time we saw him use that skill."

Samuel said nothing, his jaw tight. He gritted his teeth and tightened his grip on his spear, the smooth shaft creaking under the pressure of his hand. Watching Clyde’s raw power in action, he couldn’t suppress the bitter feeling of inferiority creeping into his chest again.

"What’s he doing now?" Leyan asked while looking at Clyde.

"I don’t know," Samuel replied after a pause. "Let’s watch."

Clyde approached the anomaly’s massive eye. He stopped just in front of it. The air around him still shimmered faintly with lingering energy.

He leaned in closer. "Tell me more. What did you mean by ’I will shape the end’?"

The air grew heavy again, and Clyde felt the same eerie vibrations echoing in his head, not words but something resonating directly in his mind.

He grimaced and he forced himself to stand his ground. The pressure was unbearable, like his skull was being twisted.

"You..." The vibrations intensified, jagged and piercing. Clyde shook his head violently, trying to dispel it.

"You are..." the voice hissed like a thousand whispers layered over one another. The anomaly’s eye flared for a brief moment, brighter than before, and Clyde staggered back a step.

The anomaly shuddered, its wounded form trembling as if in pain.

"You will... shape... the end... because... you are... the Catalyst," the voice rasped, the vibrations in Clyde’s head becoming unbearable. His breath ragged as he fought to maintain control.

"The Catalyst?" Clyde repeated, spitting the words through gritted teeth. "What does that mean?"

Before the anomaly could respond, its flickering light began to dim rapidly, and the oppressive energy radiating from it faded.

Clyde realized too late what was happening.

"Damn it!" he growled angrily. At this point, it looks like he will lose yet another lead.

The vibrations echoed in Clyde’s head again, more intense this time. He grimaced but still able to remain standing despite all those foreign energy attacking his mind. He shake his head again to forcefully to dispel the sensation.

"You... are different," the voice murmured, faint yet resonant. "The power... the Designer..."

Clyde clenched his jaw, his patience wearing thin. He had more pressing questions to address.

"What do you mean by the Burning Realm?" he demanded with firm voice.

The response came in fragmented whispers, heavy with a foreboding tone.

"A world... consumed... by Deus’s fire..."

"What?" Clyde asked.

And then the eye start melting.
