Chapter 55: Chapter 55: The Ethical Melodrama of the Wealthy Families

Gemma Morgan actually pushed Melissa Greenwood away.

She waved at Yolanda Greenwood, "Yolanda, come here."

Melissa Greenwood’s anger flared up instantly, "What are you doing?"

Since Gemma woke up, she hadn’t said a word to her.

Now that Yolanda was here, Gemma knew very well that she didn’t get along with Yolanda, yet she still treated Melissa so differently. Could one even call that being a mother?

Yolanda was startled by Melissa’s tone and looked at Gemma anxiously.

"Yolanda, come here." Gemma continued to treat Melissa as if she were invisible, waving at Yolanda again.

Melissa was really furious.

"Mom, are you being too kind-hearted? Don’t you know how you ended up in the ICU?"

"Do you care so much about others that you’d disregard your own life?"

Gemma looked over with a cold face, "Melissa, you really disappoint me."

"I disappoint you?" Melissa laughed angrily, "Haha, as a mother, you’re always helping outsiders over your own family, can’t tell who’s closer or who’s more distant, and you’re disappointed?"

Her face was full of disdain and contempt as she spoke.

It was the first time Gemma had seen Melissa like this, and the first time she realized how repulsive her own daughter could be.

Her heart began to ache uncontrollably once again.

Yolanda noticed something was wrong with Gemma’s complexion and quickly stepped forward.

"Eldest Aunt, cousin, don’t fight, I’ll just leave."

"Yolanda..." Gemma grabbed Yolanda’s arm, "Yolanda, I’m sorry, our family owes you an apology."

Upon hearing this, Melissa stepped forward and pushed Gemma, "What are you talking about? Who owes her anything?"

Gemma was pushed to the ground, pointing at Melissa, it took her a moment to squeeze out the words.

"How could I... have given birth to a daughter like you?"

"I don’t want you as a mother either!" Melissa was so angry she was speaking without thinking.

For many years, she had played the role of the obedient daughter in front of Gemma, and she was sick of it.

What was more detestable was that no matter how she acted, it seemed Gemma would always prefer Yolanda, it was like being blind to the truth.

Yet, it was her very words that caused Gemma to faint.

"Eldest Aunt!" Yolanda tried to rush over.

Melissa grabbed her, "Why don’t you get lost? This is my mother, you have no place to play the good person here."

Yolanda found it unbelievable. Gemma had already passed out, and Melissa wasn’t rushing to find a doctor, but instead was blocking her.

Not wanting to waste any time, Yolanda immediately started backing away.

"I’m going, I’ll leave now, you go find a doctor."

Melissa snorted, "She’s my mother, I’m more worried than you are. Yolanda, remember this, if you hadn’t come today, my mother wouldn’t have fainted."

She glared at Yolanda with clenched teeth, "All of this is because of you."

"Fine, rest assured, I won’t come again."

Yolanda understood what she meant and quickly ran to find a doctor and nurses.

She waited at the other end of the corridor until she received the news that Gemma was out of danger before slowly letting out a breath of relief.

Afterward, she found the nurse who had drawn her blood before.

"I want to donate blood, as much as possible."

The nurse looked at her with a helpless expression, "Why? Don’t you want to live?"

Last time, they had taken Yolanda’s blood as a last resort.

"Nurse," Yolanda pleaded with all her might, "it’s better to be safe than sorry. My Eldest Aunt is really not in good health, and I can’t come to the hospital often, so I’d like to reserve some blood for her."

The nurse looked at Yolanda incredulously; she was truly shocked.

The situation before her eyes, if it were a daughter for the sake of her mother, that would be one thing, but Yolanda Greenwood and Gemma Morgan... It was just too preposterous.

"I’ll do a check-up for you first," said the nurse, reluctant to draw blood without caution.

"No need," Yolanda shook her head, "I’ve been eating well, sleeping well, my body has recovered very well, just go ahead and draw."

The nurse was dubious, after all, Yolanda’s complexion didn’t look too good.

"Really, it’s okay, trust me," Yolanda pleaded with a forlorn face.

"Alright then," the nurse, left with no choice, agreed to Yolanda’s request and drew 400 milliliters.

That was the maximum amount a person could donate at one time.

"Are you really okay?" the nurse regretted it immediately after drawing the blood because Yolanda looked like she might faint at any moment.

"I’m fine," Yolanda’s face was deathly pale, her lips almost translucent.

She struggled to send a message to Lola Gold, asking her to pick her up.

Before leaving, she once more entrusted the nurse, "Nurse sister, no matter when, as long as my Eldest Aunt needs blood, you can contact me."

The nurse hesitated before asking, "You... You’re not mother and daughter, are you?"

She knew that among wealthy families, there would always be some sensational dramas that were out of the ordinary. In just a short time, she had already imagined several scenarios.

Yolanda just gave a wistful shake of her head.

Perhaps, she had once harbored such a wish, but that DNA test report had long since dispelled such thoughts.

Lola Gold helped Yolanda out of the hospital, and once they were in the car, Yolanda passed out.

She indeed looked extremely fragile, as if she might disappear with a gust of wind.

Lola Gold couldn’t help but have red eyes.

When Yolanda woke up again, it was already evening.

"Yolanda, how are you feeling? Are you hungry?" asked Lola Gold with concern.

Yolanda struggled to sit up, apologetically grasping Lola’s hand, "I’ve made you worry again."

But, apart from Lola, she really didn’t know who else to turn to during the situation at the hospital.

"There you go with the silly talk again," Lola brought over a bowl of red date porridge, "Let me feed you some, it might make you feel a bit better."

Yolanda nodded. Right now, she really didn’t have any strength.

The red date porridge was sweet and soft, not something that seemed like Lola could have made.

Yolanda quickly noticed, not far away, there was a takeout bag with the logo of Dewy Fern Hall.

Dewy Fern Hall was a nourishment store favored by the ladies of wealthy families, where nothing came cheap.

In other words, even a bowl of porridge would not be something Lola would buy.

Not to mention, Yolanda saw there were other things on the table.

"Lola," Yolanda noticed the faint love marks on Lola’s neck, "are you in a relationship?"

"Ah?" Lola startled, nearly dropping the spoon, "Yes."

"Who is it?" Yolanda hadn’t expected Lola to actually admit it, "How come I never heard you mention that you had someone you were interested in?"

"..." Lola tugged at the corner of her mouth, "My family set it up."

"Your family? A blind date?" A bad feeling began to rise in Yolanda’s heart.

"Yes." Lola nodded but was obviously reluctant to say more.

Yolanda had no choice but to ask further, "Is he a good person? Do you like him?"

"Yes." Lola popped out another monosyllabic answer.

Yolanda’s concern grew, but she didn’t want to press Lola.

Thinking it over, she asked again, "So... are you going to get married?"

Clearly, the two had developed to the stage of physical intimacy, and knowing Lola as she did, Yolanda believed Lola must have set her heart on this person.

Yet Lola let out a wry laugh.
