Chapter 490: Chapter 490: Are You Really My Dad?
Under the guidance of a psychologist, the patient enters a completely void world, forgetting the reality and fully accepting the psychologist’s suggestion.
At this moment, in the world Serena Seward created for Adam Sterling, Adrian Sterling is almost dead. In other words, Adrian Sterling is no longer a threat, and as long as Adam Sterling dares to push open the door in front of him, he can somewhat overcome his psychological fear.
However, after waiting for a while, Serena Seward saw the sweat on Adam Sterling’s forehead and face increase, and his complexion was very pale, clearly showing his fear.
"Adam, push open the door and take a look," Serena Seward was sure Adam hasn’t gone in yet. "Your father is barely breathing; he can’t harm you anymore. Don’t be afraid, push the door open!"
Adam gently shook his head on the recliner, his eyes closed, and his whole body trembled.
"Adam, don’t be afraid!" Serena Seward continued to encourage him, "You have a gun at your waist. Adrian Sterling is taking his last breath; you don’t need to fear him!"
"No! I can’t!" Adam murmured, continuing to shake his head and refuse.
Serena Seward frowned and spoke again, "There’s the sound of machines coming from the ward; Adrian Sterling has stopped breathing, he’s dead. Adam, he’s already dead, don’t you want to push the door and take a look?"
This time, Adam didn’t shake his head or say he can’t, but his body still seemed to be trembling.
Serena Seward silently cheered him on.
Yet, the next moment, Adam suddenly opened his eyes, sat up instantly, and started gasping heavily.
Serena Seward knew they had failed.
"I can’t, still can’t!" Adam spoke apologetically once he calmed down a little, "Teacher, I can’t do it. Whenever I think of his face...I really can’t do it."
"It’s okay, it’s okay." Serena Seward gently patted Adam’s back, comforting him, "This is the first time, failing is normal, don’t worry about it."
"I’m sorry, teacher, I’m sorry!" Adam’s eyes were slightly red, "I let you down, I’m a coward."
"Don’t say that, Little Sterling, you are very strong, and I’m proud of you." Serena Seward kept encouraging him, and when he finally recovered, she softly said, "Alright, go back and rest, we’ll try again tomorrow."
Adam nodded, "Teacher, you should rest early too."
Leaving the room, Adam looked apologetically at Yolanda Greenwood, nodded, and returned to his room.
"How did it go?" Yolanda went up to ask Serena Seward.
"We failed." Serena Seward looked at Adam’s tightly closed door, feeling something was off.
Yolanda worried even more, "Is there no other way?"
"Of course not." Serena Seward came to her senses, smiled, and said, "Failing is normal, psychological fear doesn’t easily disappear, let alone in Adam’s situation."
She reassured Yolanda, "By the way, can you tell me about your story with Adam?"
"My story with Adam?" Yolanda was a bit surprised, "What do you mean?"
"Like how you met, how you fell in love..." Serena Seward awkwardly smiled, "Don’t mind me, now that Adam lacks the courage to face Adrian Sterling, I want to know more about his current life."
"Of course, but..." Yolanda smiled bitterly, "To be honest, teacher, I lost my memory."
Serena Seward was obviously surprised.
"Three years ago, I had an accident, and when I woke up, I had forgotten everything from before..." Yolanda recounted everything she knew about Adam.
Serena Seward nodded knowingly, "Yolanda, join us in tomorrow’s therapy."
"Huh?" Yolanda didn’t understand.
"Maybe, you can give Adam the courage to face Adrian Sterling!" Serena Seward silently added, if Adam truly loves Yolanda, just hearing Yolanda’s description and observing Adam’s attitude toward her these days, Serena felt that Adam’s feelings for Yolanda... seemed more like responsibility.
"Alright." Yolanda gladly accepted, willing to help Adam in any way.
In the Coldson Family, Cooper Coldson still slept beside the two little ones, with Little Ella and Little Gabriel on either side squeezing him in, yet he found this incredibly comforting.
"Are you my dad?" Suddenly, the supposedly asleep Little Ella spoke up.
Cooper Coldson was startled, quickly looking over, only to see the little one blinking her big eyes, hardly looking asleep.
Cooper Coldson felt a bit helpless.
"I can’t sleep." Little Ella said with grievance, the four-year-old experiencing insomnia for the first time.
Today, her dad didn’t video call her, and her mom said dad was still in the therapy session, was it true? She always felt like dad was avoiding her.
"Darling!" Cooper Coldson suddenly felt a little flustered, "Then... should Uncle tell you a story?"
Little Ella shook her head, she sat up, a small bundle, seriously asking Cooper Coldson, "Are you really my dad?"
Cooper Coldson sat up too, forming a stark contrast between the big and small, he seriously asked Little Ella, "Do you wish Uncle Coldson was your dad?"
Little Ella thought very seriously but couldn’t come up with an answer, "I don’t know."
Cooper Coldson laughed slightly, yet felt very happy inside because he knew that if it were before, Little Ella would undoubtedly say no without hesitation.
"Darling!" He gently rubbed the little one’s head with his palm, "Actually, ’dad’ is just a term after all, whether Ella calls me Uncle Coldson or dad, I’ll always love Ella dearly, okay?"
Little Ella didn’t quite understand Cooper Coldson’s words, but she could grasp that Uncle Coldson really loved her.
So, even if her dad didn’t want her anymore, at least she still had Uncle Coldson, right?
"Thank you, Uncle Coldson!" The little one furrowed her brows with tears misting her eyes and suddenly lunging into Cooper Coldson’s arms, "When Ella grows up, she’ll take good care of Uncle Coldson."
"Good, Ella is so sweet!" Cooper Coldson felt amused, "So can Ella go to sleep now?"
"Mm!" The little one obediently lay down, still held Cooper Coldson’s hand in hers, feeling immensely secure.
She decided not to bother her dad for now, dad needs to recover, she must be good and not let mom and dad worry.
The next day, everything was as usual, and by evening, the second therapy session began.
Yolanda joined Serena Seward’s room, the lighting was especially gentle and accompanied by soothing music, creating a relaxing atmosphere.
Adam still lay on the chair, glancing at Yolanda with an unspeakable expression.
"Little Sterling, is there anything you want to say to Yolanda?" Serena Seward initiated.
"No." Adam ultimately said nothing, slowly closing his eyes.
"Alright then, Yolanda, take a seat too." Yolanda sat on Adam’s other side.
The hypnosis began, this time Serena Seward designed a scenario where Adrian Sterling had taken Yolanda hostage, and she instructed Adam to rescue her.
"Adam, Adrian Sterling is injured, you have an opportunity, just push open the door, and you can save Yolanda!" Serena Seward nodded at Yolanda.
"Adam, save me!" Yolanda tried to make her voice sound anxious and frightened, "Adam, quickly save me!"
