Chapter 489: Chapter 489: He Wants to See You One Last Time Before He Dies
At the end of the conversation, Serena Seward confirmed with Adam Sterling, "Can you see Adrian Sterling?"
"No." Adam immediately shook his head, "In my current state, I can’t. Just thinking about him..."
At this moment, Serena noticed fine beads of sweat forming on Adam’s forehead. She quickly patted his shoulder, "Alright, I understand. We’ll start with a few rehearsals."
"Okay, sorry to trouble you, Professor." Adam forced a smile and got up to leave, "By the way, Professor, can I still visit the consulting room in the next few days?"
He chuckled wryly, "I want to complete all the patients I’ve already scheduled as soon as possible."
"Of course." Serena did not doubt Adam’s abilities, but she reminded him, "But there’s no need to rush. You can help them once you’re fully recovered."
Adam shook his head, "The sooner, the better. I’ll try to come back earlier in the evening."
"Alright, I’ll respect your wishes. We’ll arrange our sessions in the evening." Serena felt something was amiss.
After they left the room, Adam went to sleep, while Serena met with Yolanda Greenwood.
"Professor Seward!" Yolanda Greenwood stood up nervously, "How’s he doing? Why are you out so soon?"
She was worried Adam might not be cooperative.
"Don’t worry, everything went smoothly." Serena approached, took Yolanda’s hand, and sat down, "Yolanda, don’t call me Professor Seward anymore. You and Little Sterling can call me Professor."
"Alright." Yolanda nodded gently.
"Rest assured, Adam is very cooperative. He truly wants to lead a normal life with you." Serena remained grateful to Yolanda, "Yolanda, you don’t know how important it is for a patient to have someone who cares about them."
Yolanda forced a smile, unsure how to respond at the moment.
"Adam and I have discussed it. The sessions will be in the evening, and he can still see patients during the day." Serena stood ready for action, "Starting tomorrow evening, I’ll hypnotize him first to eliminate his fear of Adrian Sterling from within."
"Hypnosis?" Yolanda asked worriedly, "Didn’t you say... his psychological defenses are strong and hard to hypnotize?"
Serena nodded, "That’s under normal circumstances, but now he clearly has psychological issues. I should be able to handle it."
"That’s good, really good." Yolanda couldn’t help but be happy for Adam, "Then, Professor, you should rest early."
"You should rest early too. You’ve been quite stressed lately." Serena stepped forward to give Yolanda a hug, "Don’t worry, everything will clear up soon."
Early the next morning, Adam seemed normal as he ate breakfast before heading to the consulting room.
During the day, Yolanda took Serena around Gray City, and in the afternoon they visited the kindergarten to see Little Ella and Little Gabriel.
"Mom!" Little Ella was very happy to see Yolanda arrive and greeted Serena sweetly, "Professor Grandma, you’re here too!"
"Professor Grandma?" Serena chuckled.
Little Ella nodded, "I think Professor Grandma sounds nicer than Great Grandma."
She looked at Little Gabriel standing obediently by the side, "Isn’t that right, brother?"
"Yes!" Little Gabriel nodded vigorously in agreement and also called her Professor Grandma.
Serena shook her head, "Alright, alright, whatever you like."
Little Ella giggled happily, "Mom, are you here to take me home?"
"Ella, don’t you want to stay at Uncle Coldson’s for a few more days?" Yolanda heard from Cooper Coldson that Little Ella should really like the room he prepared for her.
"I do, but without Mom there, I still want to go home." Little Ella hugged Yolanda’s neck and acted coy.
"Little Ella," Serena spoke up at the right moment, "But these days, Professor Grandma wants to enjoy Gray City and needs your mom to accompany her. Can you lend her your mom for a bit?"
Little Ella blinked her big eyes and quickly nodded, "Okay, then I’ll lend Mom to Professor Grandma for now."
Yolanda gratefully glanced at Serena and then set her daughter down, "Alright, these days you’ll listen to Uncle Coldson’s, and Mom will pick you up in a few days."
"Okay." Little Ella nodded and cautiously asked, "Then... can I video call Dad at night?"
Yolanda instinctively looked at Serena.
"Of course you can." Serena agreed with a smile, "Tonight we’ll let Ella video call Dad, alright?"
"Thank you, Professor Grandma!" Little Ella was overjoyed.
After Serena and Yolanda left together, Little Gabriel curiously said, "You know that’s not your dad, right?"
"He is now." Little Ella lowered her head, her voice dull, "Mom says he is, so he is!"
"Then what about our dad?" Little Gabriel asked persistently. These days, he had finally made Little Ella understand that Cooper Coldson was their dad, but unexpectedly, Little Ella had turned around and acknowledged the bad uncle as dad.
Little Ella looked at her brother pitifully, "What’s wrong with our dad? Isn’t he great? On the other hand, my dad, he’s sick."
She sighed like a little adult, "I know that Professor Grandma is here to treat Dad."
"What’s he sick with?" Little Gabriel asked curiously.
Little Ella shook her head, pointing to the area of her heart, "Sick in the heart. I can feel it."
Little Gabriel didn’t say anything more. Previously, the doctors had said he was sick in his heart too. Could the bad uncle be just like him? For a moment, he felt a sense of shared suffering.
In the evening, Adam indeed came home early, apparently in good spirits, he prepared a lavish dinner for Serena and Yolanda.
After dinner, Yolanda took the initiative to say, "Adam, let’s video call Ella. She misses you."
"Forget it." To Yolanda’s surprise, Adam rejected the idea, "Let her have a good time at Cooper Coldson’s! Professor, shall we start?"
He didn’t give Yolanda a chance to persuade him further and first went into Serena’s room.
Serena frowned slightly. She didn’t say much, got up, and patted Yolanda on the shoulder, "If he doesn’t want to, let it be. You can explain to the children."
"Alright, thank you, Professor." Yolanda watched Serena enter the room, and the door closed again.
Serena saw that Adam was already lying in the chair and smiled, "Why don’t you want to video call Ella? Don’t you miss her?"
Adam took a while before answering, "She isn’t my daughter. She... will ultimately return to her father."
"Are you feeling reluctant?" Serena sat next to Adam.
Adam didn’t answer, slowly closed his eyes, evidently ready for hypnosis.
Serena didn’t pursue the subject, slowly guiding Adam into the state, proceeding to the most crucial step.
"Adam Sterling, you’re now standing outside your father’s hospital room. He is about to die, and he wants to see you one last time before he passes," she paused, observing Adam’s condition, before continuing, "Push the door open, go in and see him one last time!"
