Chapter 484: Chapter 484: She and Adam Sterling Seem to Have Reached the End
At the entrance of the Heart Island Counseling Room, Cooper Coldson got out of the car with Yolanda Greenwood.
"I didn’t expect Adam Sterling would open his private practice, it’s great," smiled Cooper Coldson. "I’ve always heard my brother mention that Adam Sterling is quite an exceptional talent in psychology."
Yolanda Greenwood smirked, "It’s indeed good news. It’s just that I’m not sure... whether a healer can heal themselves."
She still felt an underlying unease about Adam Sterling’s mental fluctuations, as if something wasn’t quite right.
"Hm?" Cooper Coldson didn’t quite understand what she meant.
"It’s nothing," Yolanda didn’t want to elaborate, "You better head back; don’t keep Ann waiting. We’re going in."
She looked at the little Ella in her arms, "Ella, say goodbye to Uncle Coldson."
"Goodbye, Uncle Coldson!" The little one waved obediently.
"Goodbye, Ella." Cooper Coldson looked at Yolanda Greenwood once more, reluctant to say, "Alright, I’ll head back now. Feel free to reach out if you need anything."
Yolanda stood at the street side holding her child as Cooper Coldson started the car but didn’t leave. She waved again, "Goodbye, get going!"
Only then did the car leave.
"Uncle Coldson wanted to see us go inside before leaving," little Ella couldn’t help but remind her mom.
"I know." Yolanda sighed gently and pushed open the door to the counseling room.
"Madam!" The nurse greeted her warmly upon arrival and teased little Ella, "Good evening, Ella!"
"Good evening, Sister," little Ella hid shyly into Yolanda’s embrace.
"Where’s Adam Sterling?" Yolanda asked immediately.
"Oh, Dr. Sterling is still seeing patients. There have been quite a few appointments in the past few days, and he’s catching up."
Yolanda frowned, "Didn’t you tell him to return my calls?"
The nurse was slightly surprised, "I did tell him. Dr. Sterling didn’t call you back?"
Yolanda pressed her lips together, saying nothing.
"He’s probably just too busy and forgot," the nurse quickly attempted to placate her, "Madam, don’t be angry; this patient will soon be out."
She poured juice for Yolanda and little Ella but didn’t dare continue the conversation upon noticing Yolanda’s displeased expression.
"Mom," little Ella sat beside Yolanda and asked quietly with grievance, "Does Dad not love me anymore?"
"How could that be? Don’t think that way," Yolanda gently stroked her child’s head.
"But today Grandpa took me away, why didn’t Dad come to rescue me?" little Ella was evidently concerned.
"Ella dear, Dad is busy treating patients; it wasn’t on purpose that he didn’t come for you," Yolanda didn’t want her child to be upset and kept comforting her.
At this moment, the office door inside opened, and Adam Sterling came out with a patient.
"Remember to come for the check-up on time, don’t stop taking the medication," Adam Sterling attentively escorted the patient to the door.
Yolanda handed little Ella to the nurse and went to find Adam Sterling, "Let’s have a chat."
Adam Sterling furrowed his brow and looked toward the nurse at a distance, "Are today’s patients all done?"
"There were just two left; I’ve already asked them to come back tomorrow," Yolanda answered directly, leading the way to the office.
"Alright, then notify them to come back tomorrow," Adam Sterling informed the nurse with a few extra instructions.
"Don’t worry, Dr. Sterling; you can go now, your wife seems a bit upset," the nurse hinted at him.
Adam Sterling only then entered the office and closed the door.
"What’s wrong again?" He was obviously a bit impatient, sitting heavily on the couch and tiredly rubbing his brow.
Yolanda’s anger flared up, "Adam Sterling, how many times did I call you, and you didn’t answer any of them?"
"During work hours, my phone must be on silent; you know that," Adam’s tone was not pleasant.
"When you’ve finished with patients, do you not check and return so many missed calls?"
"You saw how many patients there were today, where was the time to make calls?" Adam Sterling looked at Yolanda with clear impatience, "Yolanda, stop being unreasonable, will you? I’m really tired today."
"Adam Sterling, do you know that little Ella was abducted today? Almost something happened," Yolanda was truly disappointed. "I even came to the counseling room, had the nurse reminded you to call me back, yet you still don’t care. Adam, what are you thinking?"
"Almost abducted?" Adam Sterling finally showed a bit more seriousness, but he still defended himself, "You should have called the police; calling me..."
Yolanda interrupted him, "The one who took her is your father!"
"What?" Adam Sterling stood up in shock, forgetting to explain and walked out of the office in strides, moving quickly in front of little Ella.
"Ella, did he hit you? Are you hurt anywhere?" His face paled as he checked her for injuries.
"Mom!" little Ella was scared by his demeanor, rushing to find Yolanda, "Mom, Dad is scary."
Yolanda looked at Adam Sterling incredulously, guessing at something vaguely, "Adam, why are you so anxious? Why are you checking if Ella was beaten? Could it be..."
Could it be that Adam Sterling had been beaten by his father?
Yolanda broke into a cold sweat instantly, not daring to pursue the thought further, "Adam Sterling, if Cooper Coldson hadn’t found Ella in time today..."
"Again with Cooper Coldson! So you’re here with Ella, spoiling for a fight just to say that Cooper helped find Ella, isn’t it?" Adam unexpectedly retaliated, "All that about never seeing Cooper again, all that about wanting to live well with me, I see it’s all lies!"
His voice was loud, scaring the nurses into silence, and little Ella clung tightly to Yolanda’s clothes.
Yolanda was genuinely fed up. She took a deep breath, picked up little Ella, "Adam Sterling, I don’t want to argue with you here. You may not mind being embarrassed, but I do!"
"Ella, we’re going home!" She strode out, immediately hailing a cab.
On the way, Yolanda watched the scenery pass by the window, as her tears unknowingly fell.
Little Ella noticed and quickly got up to wipe her tears.
"Mom’s okay," Yolanda sniffed, quickly regaining control over her emotions.
"Mom, I wish Uncle Coldson was actually my Dad," little Ella suddenly said.
Yolanda was startled, asking incredulously, "Ella, why would you say that? Didn’t you... love Daddy the best?"
Little Ella lowered her head, her lips curling. Her voice choked with emotion, "But Dad always makes Mom upset, and always makes Mom cry. This kind of Dad, Ella doesn’t like anymore."
"Ella dear, be good, okay?" Yolanda held her child tight but didn’t know what to say.
The situation had evolved to this point, it seemed that she and Adam Sterling... had truly come to an end.
Three years of feelings, three years of being together, saying it’s not sad would be dishonest, but Yolanda was truly at a loss why it had come to this.
After returning home, she ate dinner with little Ella and then put her to sleep before waiting in the living room for Adam Sterling to come back.
