Chapter 478: Was Adam Sterling’s reaction just now fear?

Chapter 478: Chapter 478: Was Adam Sterling’s reaction just now fear?

"Today?" Yolanda Greenwood was slightly surprised. "Isn’t it too rushed?"

"Not at all, you have no idea how long I’ve been waiting for today. I can hardly wait any longer." Adam Sterling hummed a tune as he went to gather the documents.

Yolanda returned to the bedroom alone, feeling a bit hesitant, but at this point, she had no choice.

She silently told herself that since she had decided, she must try her best for Ella and for both families; she was sure she could do it.

Adam quickly gathered everything and left with Yolanda.

Near the Civil Affairs Office, he found a place to park the car before getting out with Yolanda.

"Nervous?" Adam asked with a smile.

Yolanda nodded. She suddenly wondered what it was like when she went to get the marriage certificate with Cooper Coldson. Was she happy? No, that day Cooper mentioned their marriage was set up by Melissa Greenwood, so it must have been even more ridiculous than now.

Thinking of this, she suddenly let out a bitter laugh.

"What are you thinking?" Adam suddenly asked, alert.

"Ah? It’s nothing," Yolanda forced a smile, lowered her head, and said, "Just thinking, this is my first time getting a marriage license, so how could I not be nervous?"

Adam’s expression changed slightly and he immediately guessed that Yolanda must have been thinking about Cooper Coldson.

He struggled to control his temper, grabbed Yolanda’s arm, and walked forward quickly. "Let’s go, we might need to queue."

"Okay, let go of me first," Yolanda struggled. "You’re hurting me."

But Adam didn’t let her go, instead he held on tighter and stopped.

"What’s wrong?" Yolanda looked over, seeing that Adam seemed off. His face was pale, his forehead was sweaty, and he was trembling. "Adam, what’s wrong with you?"

Adam seemed frozen in place, not moving an inch.

Yolanda followed his gaze into the distance and saw an elderly man and a woman pushing a child. She wasn’t sure who Adam was looking at.

"Do you know them?" She tentatively asked, "Do you want to go over and say hello?"

"I don’t know them." Adam still held Yolanda’s arm but turned to walk back. "Let’s go home for now."

"Go back?" Yolanda felt puzzled, standing in place. "Adam, what’s going on? We’re already at the Civil Affairs Office entrance. Why go back suddenly?"

"I said let’s go back!" Adam shouted.

Yolanda frowned, "What’s wrong with you?"

She could see Adam was acting very strangely. "Adam, can’t you talk to me properly? How can I trust you with myself and Ella if you’re like this?"

"Whatever you want!" Unexpectedly, Adam let go of Yolanda’s arm and walked away briskly by himself.

"Adam!" Yolanda was slightly angry.

But Adam didn’t even look back, walking quickly, clearly heading to the car to leave.

Yolanda found it baffling. After thinking for a moment, she decided not to chase after him and wandered aimlessly in another direction.

She noticed that the elderly man who was far away earlier ran past her, chasing in the direction Adam had disappeared.

Did they know each other? Adam’s reaction just now... was it fear?

She couldn’t figure it out, only feeling her head was in chaos, like it was about to explode.

Meanwhile, Adam really wasn’t doing well. It even took him a while to find the car. Finally reaching it, he tugged at the car door but failed to open it, his whole body trembling.

He took a deep breath, ready to pull the door again when a large hand stopped it.

In the car window, Adam saw the face, nearly collapsing to the ground in fright, only standing by leaning against the car.

"You brat, what are you running for?" The elderly man started speaking, full of vigor, his voice deep and commanding.

"I’m not... I wasn’t running..." Adam stammered, but still didn’t dare to turn around, keeping his back to the man.

"Ungrateful wretch," the man continued to scold, "Running away when you see me. Next time, I’ll break your legs."

Adam didn’t say anything, beads of sweat dripping down from his forehead.

"Went to the military to find you, couldn’t find you," the man tugged at Adam’s clothes, "Think I can’t handle you?"

Adam remained silent, just trembling all the while.

"This city looks nice, better than where we’re from," the man continued, "I’ve decided to settle here; to keep you company. You won’t ignore me, will you?"

He impatiently tugged at Adam’s clothes, "I’m talking to you; turn around. I’m your dad, always will be."

Adam was forced to turn around but still didn’t dare to meet the man’s eyes. "How much money do you want? I... I didn’t bring much... I’ll transfer it when I get back."

"Nonsense! I’ve got money!" This man was Adam’s father, Adrian Sterling. "Is this your car?"

Adam hesitated but nodded.

"Hm, you’re doing well, it’s a nice car," Adrian seemed quite satisfied with Adam’s reaction, patting Adam on the shoulder. "Take your dad to see your home."

"What?" Adam was taken aback.

"What? Don’t want to?" Adrian’s voice grew louder, his eyes glaring.

"I do, I do," Adam quickly shrank his neck, glanced at Adrian’s hand, and cautiously reminded, "The car door."

"Oh, alright, I’ll sit over there." Adrian retracted his hand from the car door, preparing to sit in the passenger seat.

Adam took a deep breath, opened the car door, got inside, and immediately locked all the doors.

Adrian pulled at the car door from the outside but couldn’t open it, shouting disgruntled, "What’s going on?"

"Go, start the car!" Adam, not daring to look at Adrian’s face, tried a few times before finally starting the car and sped away without looking back.

He drove away swiftly, not daring to look back.

"You little brat, just wait!" Adrian chased for a while but couldn’t catch up, so he shouted loudly, "You can run for now but not forever. Next time I catch you, I’ll break your legs!"

Adam’s head buzzed, unable to hear anything for a long time.

Only after confirming Adrian was left far behind did he slowly exhale, driving the car back home.

Upstairs, he quickly returned to his room, even locking the door, and hid himself under the covers.

Yolanda wandered outside for a while and returned home at noon.

"Adam?" She didn’t see him; noticing lunch wasn’t made, but Adam’s shoes were at the entrance, she went to knock on Adam’s door. "Adam, are you inside?"

There was no response.

"Adam, are you there?" Yolanda couldn’t help but feel a little worried. "Adam, open the door!"

Suddenly, something unknown hit the door from inside, clearly telling Yolanda to get lost!
