Chapter 473: Chapter 473: If There Is a Next Life, We Won’t Change

On the way to the prison, Cooper Coldson noticed Yolanda was silent and asked with concern, "Are you nervous?"

"A bit." Yolanda tugged at the corner of her mouth, after all, she couldn’t imagine her past being related to a death row convict.

She tentatively asked Cooper Coldson, "This person named Melissa Greenwood... did she commit murder?"

"Yes." Cooper Coldson nodded, "Killed several, and... your father almost died because of her."

Yolanda looked over in shock, "Does my family have a grudge against her?"

Cooper Coldson shook his head, thinking before speaking, "Her surname is also Lin, you should be able to guess, you were originally relatives, she... is your cousin."

Yolanda was even more puzzled, since they were relatives, why had it escalated to murder?

Forty minutes later, the car finally stopped.

Getting out of the car, they were faced with tall prison walls, intimidating enough, with a prison guard already waiting there.

"Hello, you must be Miss Yolanda and Mr. Cooper Coldson?" The prison guard smiled as he approached, offering a handshake to the two.

"Hello!" The two exchanged greetings.

The prison guard looked at Yolanda, "I heard from Mr. Coldson that Miss Yolanda... has lost her memory?"

"Yes." Yolanda nodded, "So I changed my phone number."

"No problem, I’m really glad you could come, the matter with Melissa Greenwood’s case has been ongoing for years, with all sorts of issues along the way," the prison guard gave a bitter smile, "Now it seems it’s finally coming to an end, and we can give you some closure."

Yolanda tugged at the corner of her mouth, facing the blank memory, she was ultimately somewhat bewildered.

The prison guard led the two inside, stopping finally outside a room, outside the window you could see inside, but inside couldn’t see out.

Yolanda saw a short-haired woman sitting behind a table, looking thin, eyes vacant, the loose clothing making her appear particularly frail.

She whispered to Cooper Coldson, "Is that Melissa Greenwood?"

"Yes." Cooper Coldson snapped back from the shock, he hadn’t expected after three years, Melissa Greenwood had transformed from a fashionable, glamorous rich girl to this, he couldn’t help but reflect that one must ultimately pay for their actions.

Melissa Greenwood has to, and so does he.

"You can go in anytime now." The prison guard said beside them, "Half an hour. Though I don’t know if she wants to repent or what, regardless, rest assured, it’s very safe."

The two nodded.

"I’ll go in first." Cooper Coldson noticed Yolanda’s pale face and patted her shoulder, "If you’re really scared, I’ll go in first, you can decide after."

Yolanda shook her head, "It’s fine, let’s go in together."

She took a deep breath and followed behind Cooper Coldson.

The two pushed open the door one after the other, entering the room.

Melissa Greenwood wanted to stand up the moment she saw them, but being a serious offender, her heavy handcuffs and shackles completely secured her to the chair.

Her gaze swept over Cooper Coldson first and then settled on Yolanda’s face.

Three years had passed and she now looked like a woman in her forties, while Yolanda... still seemed in her twenties, even younger than before.

Cooper Coldson walked to the opposite side of Melissa Greenwood and pulled out a chair for Yolanda first, "Sit."

"Thank you." Yolanda responded softly, and slowly sat down. For some reason, she couldn’t bear to look Melissa Greenwood in the eyes, and her palms were sweaty.

"Heh..." Melissa Greenwood let out a cold laugh, "You two are really amusing, it’s been three years, your relationship still seems strong."

Both Cooper Coldson and Yolanda remained silent.

Melissa Greenwood, on the contrary, started talking self-indulgently, looking at Yolanda and asking, "Yolanda, has he been good to you in these three years? No other new flames, right? Let me tell you, men who are handsome and rich are dangerous, you can’t take them lightly."

The two still remained silent.

Yolanda carefully observed Melissa Greenwood and found it strange. Although the other seemed very friendly, she was afraid, a deep-rooted fear.

Melissa Greenwood continued, "How about Ella and Ella Jr.? They are three years old now, right? They must be adorable. You two are really something, why didn’t you bring them here? I’m their aunt after all."

Upon hearing Melissa Greenwood mention Ella and Ella Jr., Yolanda became even more scared, her whole body slightly trembling.

Clearly, both Cooper Coldson and Melissa Greenwood noticed it too.

Melissa Greenwood frowned, "Yolanda, what’s the matter? Afraid I’ll eat you?"

"No... no." Yolanda gently shook her head but could hardly form a complete sentence.

Cooper Coldson worriedly glanced at her, hesitated for a moment, then reached out and grabbed Yolanda’s hand, holding it firmly.

Yolanda was startled, wanting to withdraw her hand, but after pulling once, Cooper Coldson still held on tightly. Strangely, she gradually calmed down, seeming less afraid.

She hesitated for a moment and then stopped struggling, finally able to look directly into Melissa Greenwood’s eyes.

"I’ve lost my memory." Yolanda slowly opened her mouth.

"What?" Melissa Greenwood was shocked and wanted to stand again, once more restrained by the handcuffs and shackles, she instinctively looked at Cooper Coldson for confirmation.

Cooper Coldson nodded.

Melissa Greenwood was clearly extremely shocked, after a while, she snapped back and said, "Yolanda, I really don’t know if you are blessed or cursed."

She sighed, "The unpleasant things from the past, I want to forget them too, but I just can’t, truly, I can’t forget..."

She looked at Cooper Coldson, "I truly loved you, wholeheartedly. So to you, I have no apologies, contrary to Yolanda..."

Melissa Greenwood then turned to Yolanda, her eyes clearly complicated, "When you were little, you chased after me, but when I found out our identities had been exchanged, it actually turned into me chasing you."

"But you ran so fast, I couldn’t catch up, I could only think of cutting off your arms and legs, so you’d wait for me." Melissa Greenwood said this and lowered her head, "These extra three years made me understand one thing, in a lifetime, people spend so little time caring about themselves, why care about others?"

"Whether others are fast or slow, what they have or lose, what does it have to do with me?" She looked up at Yolanda and Cooper Coldson, "Things that aren’t mine, ultimately never are."

"Sometimes I wonder too, if Eliana Reed hadn’t swapped our identities, would my life have been different?" Melissa Greenwood’s voice choked up a bit, "At least, I might not have ended up like this, utterly wronged, becoming a death row prisoner."

For the entire half hour, it was almost entirely Melissa Greenwood speaking by herself.

After the time was up, Melissa Greenwood was escorted away by two guards, as she reached the door, she turned to look at Yolanda, "Yolanda, if there really is reincarnation, let’s not exchange places again."

Yolanda kept sitting there dazed, and when she finally came to her senses, she realized her face was already covered with tears.
