Chapter 456: Chapter 456: Dad seems to have argued with someone today
The next day, after Yolanda and Little Ella woke up, they saw breakfast was already prepared.
"You two lazy bugs, finally awake." Adam Sterling hugged Little Ella, "Ella, did you sleep well last night?"
"Yes." The little one nodded obediently.
"Great! Then how about Dad takes you to freshen up? We’ll have breakfast soon." Adam turned to Yolanda Greenwood, "You should wash up quickly too; you didn’t eat much yesterday noon and night, must be hungry."
"Okay." Yolanda Greenwood, in a daze, seemed to see the Adam Sterling from the past again, as if everything from yesterday was just her imagination.
She chuckled softly, guessing Adam’s troubles must have been resolved, and quietly thought: That’s great.
The breakfast was sumptuous, full of Yolanda and Little Ella’s favorite foods.
"Dad makes the best food." Little Ella seemed relieved the storm was finally over and became more cheerful.
"You little foodie," Adam lightly scratched Little Ella’s nose, "Tell Dad what you want to eat in the future, and I’ll make it for you every day."
"Really?" Little Ella was even happier.
Yolanda Greenwood couldn’t help but expose her, "Of course it’s not true; your dad’s holiday is ending soon. In the future, you’ll have to eat the meals Mom makes."
"Alright then." Little Ella smiled at Yolanda Greenwood, "Mom’s cooking is tasty too."
"You and your sweet talk." Yolanda Greenwood shook her head.
"No worries, my holiday still has some days," Adam Sterling spoke slowly, "I’ll cook until Ella gets tired of it, okay?"
"Okay." Little Ella loudly agreed, cheering him on.
Yolanda Greenwood frowned, "Still several days? I clearly remember last time Noah Coldson said your holiday was a month."
"I’m not going back yet, taking more time to rest." Adam said calmly, "From now on, the responsibility for picking and dropping off Ella is mine."
"Alright, if you want to rest, take a few more days." Yolanda Greenwood couldn’t say much, "I can also handle Ella’s pick-up and drop-off; after all, I mostly work from home."
"I’ll do it." Adam Sterling was evidently insistent.
"That works too. Just let me know if you’re not convenient or want to rest any day." Yolanda Greenwood didn’t argue with him.
In the days that followed, Adam Sterling seemed to return to the way he was before, even paying more attention to Yolanda Greenwood and Little Ella, and never letting Yolanda handle Ella’s pick-up.
Gabriel hadn’t seen mom for a while.
That day, after school, Little Ella and Gabriel left the classroom together, and from afar, they saw Adam Sterling was the one picking up Ella again.
Gabriel unhappily grabbed Little Ella’s hand, lowered his voice and said, "Ella, tell Mom tonight, have her pick you up tomorrow, okay? Just say I miss her."
"Okay." Little Ella agreed readily.
"Okay, don’t tell Dad." Gabriel stuck out his little tongue, "It’s our secret."
"Okay." Little Ella happily went to find Dad.
She ran to Adam Sterling’s back, hearing him on the phone, obediently waited without disturbing him.
But Adam’s tone wasn’t good; it seemed he was arguing with someone.
"Handle it however you want, I won’t be going back soon."
"Whatever, I respect the organization’s arrangement!"
"Punishment’s fine, I said it before, nothing to explain."
"I have something else, hanging up now."
Adam Sterling hung up the phone, swore, then turned to see Little Ella looking timidly at him.
He immediately smiled, bent down to hug the little one, "When did Ella come out?"
"Just now." Little Ella tugged at her fingers, then gathered courage to ask, "Was Daddy arguing with someone just now?"
"Not really." Adam raised one side of his mouth, then asked, "Was Ella scared again?"
Little Ella quickly shook her head and hugged Adam’s neck, meekly saying, "Ella just doesn’t like it when Daddy is upset, was a bad person bullying Daddy?"
"It’s nothing, our Ella is really good."
After dinner and lying down, Little Ella held Yolanda’s hand, mysteriously saying, "Mom, today Daddy seemed to be arguing with someone."
"Really? With whom?" Yolanda was slightly surprised; Adam’s temper is usually good; she had hardly seen him argue with anyone.
"Someone on the phone," Little Ella thought hard for a moment, "Daddy was saying something about not going back, handling whatever punishment, it sounded like Daddy’s boss?"
Yolanda’s expression changed slightly; Adam indeed stayed home for quite a long time, could there be an issue?
She soothed Little Ella to sleep, "Ella, sleep now, don’t worry, tomorrow Mom will ask Dad, you don’t need to worry."
"Okay, Mom is awesome." The little one said again, "Oh, today Brother said he misses Mom, wants Mom to pick me up tomorrow, so he can see you."
"Okay, Mom will go to kindergarten tomorrow." Yolanda smiled and agreed.
The next day, Yolanda woke up early to prepare breakfast with Adam.
"Why not go back to sleep for a while?" Adam looked at her with concern, "Look at your dark circles; obviously didn’t sleep well last night."
"It’s fine, I’m not sleepy now." Yolanda smiled softly.
She thought for a moment, then cautiously said, "How much time is left for your holiday? You must be going back soon, right?"
"Still got some days, why? Is there something?" Adam’s expression didn’t reveal anything unusual.
"Not really." Yolanda pursed her lips and cautiously asked, "No issues lately, right?"
"Nothing, relax." Adam still wouldn’t reveal anything.
Yolanda hesitated for a moment, then decided not to probe further, and said, "By the way, I don’t have anything today, let me take Ella to kindergarten."
"No need, I’ll take her." Adam refused outright, "Your dark circles are so heavy, finish breakfast, then get some more sleep."
"Then..." Yolanda said, "I’ll pick her up tonight; can’t let you do all the running around alone."
"Yolanda, what are you saying?" Adam said helplessly, "Ella is my daughter; for her, nothing is too much trouble, even if it’s just picking her up."
"..." Yolanda pursed her lips.
"Yolanda, do you have something? Want to go to kindergarten to see someone? Gabriel? Or... someone else?" Adam asked in confusion.
"Adam!" Yolanda understood his implication and felt a bit upset instantly.
"Great if you don’t, us being happy together as a family." Adam continued to work busily, expression natural.
Yolanda had no choice but to give up on picking up and dropping off, she vaguely felt Adam disliked her meeting Gabriel or was afraid she’d see Cooper.
After breakfast, Adam and Little Ella left together, and Yolanda lay down for a while before getting up.
She prepared two children’s lunches, planning to sneak to kindergarten at noon to give Gabriel and Ella their meals.
Actually, these days, she also missed Gabriel a lot.
At noon, Gabriel saw Mom finally came, was overjoyed, ran over to dive into Yolanda’s arms, "Mom, I missed you so much!"
