Entangled with My Cousin's Fiancé
Chapter 436: Could it be because you cheated?

Chapter 436: Chapter 436: Could it be because you cheated?

"Gabriel, Ella, come out and wash your hands for dinner." After Yolanda finished cooking, she went to call the two children.

Then, she and Adam Sterling carried the dishes to the dining table.

"Where’s Cooper? Is he in the bedroom?" Adam Sterling noticed Cooper wasn’t in the living room.

"Huh?" Yolanda shook her head.

"Mom, Uncle Coldson said he had something to do and left first," Little Ella responded obediently, "He said he’d come back later to pick up my brother."

"Oh." Yolanda instinctively glanced at Little Gabriel, no wonder she noticed something was off about his mood when calling them to eat.

The meal was quickly set, and the two little ones sat together, with Little Gabriel bowing his head, looking disinterested in food.

Yolanda proactively picked some fish for him, "Gabriel, try this. It’s one of mom’s specialties."

Little Gabriel hesitated for a moment but still obediently picked it up and took small bites, but it was clear he still had little appetite.

"Gabriel, daddy went to work but will be back soon." Yolanda gently coaxed him, "Let’s be good and eat a bit more, okay? Don’t you want to try mom’s cooking?"

Little Gabriel raised his head, his eyes slightly red, as if he was about to cry.

Yolanda put down her chopsticks, walked to the little guy’s side, and softly said, "Be good, Gabriel, daddy will be back soon."

She hadn’t expected Little Gabriel to be so attached to Cooper.

Little Gabriel looked up, gestured for Yolanda to come closer, seemingly wanting to tell her a secret.

Yolanda immediately leaned over, listening intently.

"Daddy’s downstairs." Little Gabriel said tenderly, he saw it, daddy wasn’t busy at all, but sitting downstairs.

His silly daddy was so pitiful.

Thinking of this, he puffed out his cheeks and glared at Adam Sterling.

Yolanda was slightly shocked; Cooper was deliberately avoiding them? Why?

She couldn’t quite understand, but hoped her son would eat well, so she softly said, "Then Gabriel, eat up, and mom will go call him up, okay?"

"Okay." The little guy’s eyes clearly brightened, even provocatively glancing at Adam Sterling across from him.

Yolanda helplessly patted his little head and said to Adam Sterling and Ella, "I’ll go downstairs for a bit and be back soon, Adam Sterling, make sure they eat well."

"Go ahead." Adam Sterling naturally guessed what was going on.

Yolanda was somewhat skeptical if Little Gabriel was mistaken. She couldn’t think why Cooper wouldn’t eat but would sit downstairs, but indeed she saw Cooper in the community’s leisure area.

The man was sitting on a wooden bench, his head lowered, under the streetlamp, his shadow stretched long, looking somewhat lonely.

Yolanda frowned, hesitated for a moment, then stepped forward, "Why aren’t you coming upstairs for dinner?"

Cooper thought he was hallucinating when he heard the voice; he slowly lifted his head, watching Yolanda walking towards him, and in a dreamy-real blend, he called out, "Yolanda?"

Yolanda reached him, "Gabriel said he saw you downstairs, didn’t expect you were really here."

It was really Yolanda.

Cooper, realizing he wasn’t hallucinating, immediately stood up, their distance instantly shortened. He stammered, "Oh, it’s nothing, I’m not hungry, just wanted some fresh air."

Yolanda inexplicably felt uncomfortable too, turned around, and sat on the wooden bench, creating a bit of distance from where Cooper had just been.

"Don’t want to eat, why? Was my cooking really bad before?"

"No, your cooking was always good," Cooper hesitated and then sat down too, "It’s just that... I’m really not hungry."

Yolanda didn’t look at him. It was very quiet around, and she slowly spoke, "How long after we got married did we divorce?"

Cooper clenched his fist, "A year."

"A year?" Yolanda was inevitably surprised, thinking her personality wouldn’t allow such a thing, "It was that short?"

"Yes, very short." Cooper couldn’t help but turn to look at her, cautiously asking, "Aren’t you curious... why we divorced back then?"

Yolanda raised an eyebrow, suddenly laughing, "It wasn’t because you cheated, was it?"

Cooper didn’t reply, his nails digging into his palms. His actions back then were much like cheating, weren’t they?

Although he never loved Melissa Greenwood and never had any intimate behavior with her, he repeatedly doubted and hurt Yolanda because of Melissa; it was no different from cheating!

Seeing him not respond, Yolanda laughed again, "Don’t be so serious, I was joking."

Cooper looked at her in surprise.

"Although I’ve really forgotten you completely, and we don’t interact much now, I feel you don’t seem like someone who would cheat." Yolanda smiled at him, "I think we probably... didn’t get along personality-wise?"

The woman seemed to have thought of something, lowered her head, and gently sighed, "I’m a stubborn person, stuck in my ways, kind of irreformable. I argued with Adam Sterling a few times over it, and each time he was the one to back down and admit fault. But I understood in my heart, he was just accommodating me, he wasn’t wrong."

Her words stopped abruptly, because she knew, she wasn’t wrong either.

"Do you love him?" Cooper couldn’t help but ask suddenly, but immediately regretted it after, "Actually, you don’t have to answer, I..."

"It’s been three years since I woke up, and my memories with him last three years," Yolanda tugged at the corner of her mouth, "These three years have been very important to me, you know? When someone loses their memory, it’s like living in a blank void, unable to grasp anything, not knowing where the road lies."

Cooper’s heart ached, frowning, Yolanda must have been very scared when she first woke up.

Yolanda continued, "These past three years, my dad, Ella, Adam Sterling, and Brother Noah made the world become real bit by bit, giving me a sense of life. So, they are all very important to me, as for the love you just mentioned..."

She shook her head, "I find it not that important."

Was that an answer? Cooper couldn’t help but ask himself, so does Yolanda actually love Adam Sterling?

He didn’t press further, instead asking, "Can you... recover your memory? What did the doctor say?"

"It depends, even the doctor is unsure," Yolanda smiled indifferently, "At first, I was quite concerned, but now I’m used to it, and it doesn’t matter to me anymore."

She thought of something, and her expression looked somewhat apologetic, "But, I do feel sorry for Gabriel."

"Don’t say that, Gabriel doesn’t blame you, no one blames you," Cooper immediately replied, "All this, it’s my doing, it’s my fault."

"Let it go." Yolanda stood up, stretched lazily, "No matter what happened in the past, we have to look forward, let the past be the past, and give a reason for living."

She looked down at Cooper, smilingly asking, "Want to come up? The fish I made is really good."

Cooper looked up at her, how he wished to stand up and give a hug, but he knew he had no right.

He finally shook his head, "No, you should go back. I just want to sit for a while longer."
