Chapter 39: Chapter 39 You Can Never Paint Again in Your Lifetime
"Stop overthinking it."
Cooper Coldson glanced at the ward door and decided to leave.
"I only came to dispel Yolanda’s hopes and to make her give up completely."
"Really?" Melissa wept pitifully, her eyes glistening with tears, as she looked at Cooper.
Cooper nodded, pulling her out of his embrace, "Okay then, I will head back first."
"Okay." Melissa watched Cooper leave, then turned and went back to the ward.
Upon hearing the noise, Yolanda immediately opened her eyes.
Seeing that it was Melissa, the last glimmer of light in her eyes dimmed.
She turned her head to look out the window, not wanting to deal with Melissa.
"Yolanda, how could you be so foolish?" Melissa settled herself at the bedside, unperturbed.
Yolanda remained silent.
"You’re in this state now; why not just give up on the big show?"
Melissa spoke again.
"Why should I?" Yolanda turned to glare at her, "The designs have already been submitted, why should I give up?"
Melissa clicked her tongue twice, "I just feel sorry for the others. A cripple occupies a slot, what’s the point?"
"Who are you calling a cripple?" Yolanda had a foreboding feeling.
"Ah!" Melissa sighed feignedly, "Yolanda, you don’t know yet? The doctor said you’ll never be able to paint again in your life."
"What are you talking about?" Yolanda sat up abruptly.
Melissa glanced at Yolanda’s hand.
"It can’t be." Yolanda bluffed, her hand straining stealthily, but it truly wouldn’t move.
"How could this happen?" She looked at her hand, unable to accept that her fingers really wouldn’t move.
Melissa spoke deliberately, "It’s all because you accidentally damaged your tendons and bones while cutting your wrists, tsk tsk, such a pity."
Yolanda came to a realization.
Melissa was the mastermind behind all this.
Melissa aimed to ruin her hands, cutting off her prospects at Baruy.
"How could you do this?"
Yolanda was furious.
"I’ve already decided to agree to the divorce and start my new life, why couldn’t you wait?"
"You’ve already taken Cooper away, isn’t that enough? Why can’t you leave me a way out?"
Melissa covered her mouth, laughing.
"Yolanda, I don’t know what you’re talking about. Cooper loves me, even if I yielded to you, he wouldn’t be with you. As for your hands... you brought it upon yourself."
"Get out, just get out!"
Yolanda grabbed a pillow and threw it at Melissa.
Melissa was caught off guard and was hit in the head, nearly falling over.
"You’re simply insane!"
She cursed as she left.
Yolanda was desolate.
Was her life really destroyed by Melissa?
Was Melissa involved in what happened during her senior year? Moreover, as far as Yolanda knew, Cooper didn’t show up then, he shouldn’t have known, but what Cooper mentioned earlier about two years ago... was he referring to that incident?
Yolanda knew that being upset and sad was useless at this point.
She had to do something, even if it wasn’t much.
She first sought out the doctor and inquired in detail about her condition.
"You care so much about your health, yet you attempt suicide?" The doctor looked at her disapprovingly.
"Doctor, can I really never paint again?" Yolanda asked nervously.
"Probably not." The doctor looked at her with contempt, "If only you had known earlier."
Devastated, Yolanda left the hospital.
She returned to the Greenwood family home to get her phone and found that Sophie Taylor, Jenny Reyes, and even Lola Gold had made many calls to her.
Having been missing for two days, these people must have been worried sick.
Yolanda first responded to Sophie and Lola’s messages, then called Jenny.
"Yolanda, I heard you cut your wrists?" Jenny’s tone was incredulous.
The Yolanda she knew was not like this.
"Sister Reyes," Yolanda gave a bitter smile, "if I said I was nearly murdered, would you believe me?"
"Yolanda, you can’t joke about these things, what exactly happened?"
Jenny was clearly worried, "Where are you now? I’ll come to you."
An hour later, the two met at a café, and Yolanda recounted everything to Jenny.
Jenny was silent for a long time, then uttered six words, "That’s just unbelievable."
"Melissa is utterly heartless!" She couldn’t help but curse, then looked at Yolanda’s wrist with compassion, "Yolanda, I know a stellar neurosurgeon, I’ll arrange an appointment for you."
Yolanda was deeply moved, "Sister Reyes, thank you."
"Don’t mention it." Jenny felt somewhat guilty, "If I had known Melissa would go crazy, I shouldn’t have advised you to stay at Baruy. You should have left with me."
"Sister Reyes, it’s not your fault." Yolanda shook her head, "Besides, as long as there’s a glimmer of hope, I won’t give up."
Jenny nodded in admiration, "You’ve been through so much."
In the hospital, Gemma Morgan had been glancing toward the door since morning, but Yolanda never appeared.
Feeling something was off, she struggled to get up.
"Mom!" Melissa rushed to support her, "What are you getting up for? Need the bathroom?"
Gemma shook her head, "I want to check on Yolanda."
"Mom!" Melissa was reluctant, "You’ve already given her blood, shouldn’t she be the one visiting you? Look, she hasn’t shown her face."
"She might not be feeling well; I’m worried, I need to see her."
Gemma was adamant.
"Fine, I’ll help you there." Melissa knew Yolanda had already been discharged.
Arriving at the ward, they saw a nurse tidying up the bed.
"Nurse, where is the patient who was in this bed?" Gemma asked, puzzled.
"She’s been discharged."
"Discharged?" Gemma was surprised.
"Mom, let’s go back." Melissa helped Gemma back, grumbling, "This Yolanda, such a thankless person, she didn’t even come to see you before being discharged."
"Okay." Gemma was disappointed, but more worried, "She must have had some emergency."
"What emergency could she possibly have?" Melissa was clearly unhappy.
"Enough." Gemma’s tone grew stern, "Don’t forget, Yolanda’s suicide has something to do with you and Cooper."
"..." Melissa was at a loss for words, unable to believe Gemma’s partiality.
She huffed angrily, "Right, it’s all our fault. If she were dead, we’d have to be buried with her. In your eyes, Yolanda is much more important than your own daughter."
"You child..." Gemma shook her head, "Yolanda is a good girl, but you saw yesterday, your aunt... it was so pitiful."
She patted Melissa’s hand, "Melissa, do you know what blood type your uncle is?"
"Huh?" Melissa was instantly on guard, "Why are you asking this?"
"It’s nothing." Gemma sighed repeatedly, "Actually, I’ve had a doubt in my heart all these years, do you think it’s possible..."
