Chapter 380: Chapter 380: Ella’s Mom, You Can’t Call Her Mom
Elsie Adams was pacing anxiously, "Mr. Coldson, Gabriel is not injured, nor is he sick. He’s probably just acting up again..."
Hearing the words "acting up," Cooper Coldson instinctively frowned. His Gabriel, although autistic, had never been unreasonable. Many times, it was just that adults didn’t understand the child’s thoughts, and the child couldn’t express them.
He was a bit displeased, feeling that Elsie Adams, as Little Gabriel’s former psychologist, should not use this term.
"It’s not acting up, Mr. Coldson, don’t misunderstand. I didn’t mean it that way," Elsie Adams immediately noticed Cooper’s displeasure, "What I mean is... this might be a passing thought of Gabriel..."
She racked her brain and suddenly came up with a solution, "Oh dear, I’ve been so busy and confused, but I know why Gabriel wanted to go to the hospital."
"Why?"
"We went to the zoo today. Ella was being disobedient and fell, so Gabriel and I took her to the hospital," Elsie Adams shook her head with a smile, "Gabriel must have wanted to see Ella, but she’s already been discharged. She wasn’t hurt badly."
"I see." Cooper Coldson felt that Little Gabriel might be overly concerned about Ella.
He squatted down, pulling his son in front of him, and patiently explained, "Gabriel, good boy, didn’t you hear Teacher Adams say Ella has been discharged? So if we go to the hospital, we won’t see her."
Little Gabriel paused, thinking, has Ella been discharged? But when they left, his mom didn’t mention taking Ella home.
He insisted on going to see for himself, starting to pull at Cooper again.
"Gabriel," Elsie Adams tried to step forward to persuade, but even before she approached Little Gabriel, she was scared by the wild look in his eyes and dared not move forward, "Gabriel, Ella really has been discharged. Please go home with your dad."
"Gabriel, it’s very impolite to glare at Teacher Adams like that." Cooper noticed that lately, Little Gabriel seemed particularly unfriendly towards Elsie, which was quite strange.
Seeing how insistent Little Gabriel was, Cooper sighed helplessly, "Fine, I’ll take him for a visit."
"What?" Elsie Adams’s expression changed.
Cooper found her reaction a bit strange, "What’s wrong? Is there a problem?"
"Nothing... nothing," Elsie Adams forced a bitter smile, "Actually, there’s no need to make the trip; they’ve definitely... been discharged."
"Thank you, Teacher Adams. Goodbye!" Cooper didn’t say any more and took Little Gabriel to the car.
Elsie Adams was pacing anxiously. She had just had a row with Yolanda Greenwood; if she called now, the other party probably wouldn’t be in a good mood and wouldn’t listen to her. Besides, she had no reason to force them to be discharged.
She felt completely hopeless. If Cooper and Yolanda recognized each other, her position as a teacher might not be secure.
In the car, Cooper noticed Little Gabriel’s tense expression and gently said, "Don’t worry. Didn’t Teacher Adams say Ella wasn’t hurt badly?"
Little Gabriel pouted, ignoring his silly dad. He increasingly disliked Teacher Adams. She wasn’t nice to Ella and was rude to his mom, just a bad woman.
"You little rascal!" Cooper ruffled his son’s hair.
Soon, the father and son arrived at the hospital. Cooper wanted to ask at the service desk which ward Ella was in, but Little Gabriel kept pulling him, clearly remembering the ward number already.
Cooper couldn’t help but smile bitterly. His son truly was a little genius; although many thought Gabriel never spoke and seemed silly, as his dad, he knew that Gabriel never forgets what he cares about, and he remembers the books he likes by heart, just as capable as any other kid.
Arriving at the ward door, Cooper noticed two boxes of supplements placed by the door, finding it slightly strange.
Little Gabriel tugged Cooper’s hand, signalling his silly dad to knock on the door.
"Alright, Dad will knock." Cooper raised his hand and gently knocked twice.
There was no response from inside.
Just as Cooper was about to knock again, a young nurse approached, "Are you here to visit the little girl from this ward?"
Cooper nodded, "Yes."
"Her mother has already done the discharge procedures for her." The young nurse looked them over, muttering confused, "Don’t you have your own kid? Why worry about someone else’s?"
Several groups had come by, all saying they were here to see the popular girl, scaring her mother into discharging her quickly and taking her home.
The young nurse took a closer look at Little Gabriel, thinking he also looked a bit like that little girl, a potential "national son" material.
It was indeed true she was discharged.
Cooper wasn’t surprised, squatting down to inform Little Gabriel, "Gabriel, you heard it, Ella has really been discharged. Let’s go home, okay?"
Little Gabriel was a bit dejected, unexpectedly, Ella had really been discharged. What a pity. If silly dad visited her, she’d surely get better faster.
On the way home, Little Gabriel looked very unhappy, and even after returning home, he refused to eat dinner.
Cooper was somewhat helpless, resorting to calling Elsie Adams again.
"You didn’t see Ella and her mom?" Elsie Adams jumped from her chair with joy. She hadn’t had dinner, worried she’d be in trouble this time, but unexpectedly, fate seemed to be favoring her.
Cooper frowned, feeling that Elsie was acting a bit strange today, "Didn’t Teacher Adams already know they were discharged?"
"Yes, but I thought if you’re lucky, you might catch them." Elsie forced a couple of awkward laughs, afraid to say more for fear of arousing Cooper’s suspicion.
"Looks like we aren’t that lucky," Cooper chuckled dryly, "Now Gabriel won’t eat dinner..."
"Do you need me to come over?" Elsie hoped faintly, "If I come and talk to him well, he might listen to me."
"Oh, no need, it’s late; I don’t want to trouble you," Cooper stated the purpose of his call, "I was hoping you could give me Ella’s mom’s phone number."
"Ella’s mom’s phone number?" Elsie bit her lip silently.
"Yes, I’d like to let Gabriel speak with Ella. He might feel better as he’s been worrying about her, which is why he won’t eat."
Cooper asked again, "Teacher Adams, can you give me her phone number?"
"Well..." Elsie naturally didn’t want to give it, "Mr. Coldson, I’m afraid I’ll need to ask Ella’s mom first if she agrees, then I can give you her number. Is that alright?"
"Of course." Cooper understood perfectly, repeatedly thanking Elsie before ending the call.
He gently coaxed Little Gabriel again, "Gabriel, Dad is getting Ella’s mom’s phone number. Soon we’ll know how Ella is, so why don’t you be a good boy and eat now?"
"Mom is going to call?" Little Gabriel became noticeably excited.
Cooper was surprised, hearing his son say such a long sentence for the first time. But he couldn’t bear to correct him, "Gabriel, that’s Ella’s mom. You can’t call her mom, okay?"
