Chapter 348: Chapter 348 This is a gift from your biological daughter.
"Yolanda, don’t underestimate this thing." Cooper’s voice was somewhat dry, filled with worry.
Yolanda ignored him. She turned around and found Melissa’s large bag, unzipping it.
"Yolanda, what are you doing?" Melissa couldn’t help but tense up; all her goods were inside, and she didn’t want Yolanda to take them. "Yolanda, stop it!"
However, Yolanda had already pulled open the zipper. She reached in and quickly found that large bag of white powder.
Melissa was trembling even more violently now, her eyes fixated on the substance, filled with desperation. "Give it to me, give it to me, let me take just one hit..."
She was entirely irrational and began to beg Yolanda uncontrollably.
Yolanda curled her lip. "So, the white powder you’ve been messing with earlier is this stuff?"
"Yes." Melissa’s eyes had turned red, and she began to struggle violently. "Give it to me, give it to me now; I’m begging you, Yolanda, I’m begging you!"
"Yolanda, what are you doing?" Cooper grew increasingly anxious.
Yolanda still ignored him completely, paying him no attention.
She opened the bag in front of Melissa, then met Melissa’s gaze as she turned the bag upside down, starting to pour the white powder onto the ground.
"Ahhhhh..." Melissa instantly went berserk. "Yolanda, I’ll kill you! I’ll kill you!"
She struggled with all her might, trying to reach the scattered substance to take a hit.
Yolanda stood up, looking down at Melissa from above, as if she were staring at a dog. "Big brother, let her go."
Though Cooper was increasingly bewildered, Noah followed Yolanda’s instruction and let go of Melissa.
Melissa immediately lunged forward, grabbed a handful of the powder, and inhaled it forcefully.
For a moment, her expression froze, as if faced with something utterly unbelievable; she couldn’t believe it, inhaling another hit.
"Cough... cough..." Melissa, like Yolanda earlier, began coughing violently.
She coughed and stared at Yolanda, "What’s going on? What’s happening?"
The white powder was unexpectedly not what she was seeking. What exactly was going on?
Her head felt like it was splitting, as she rolled on the ground. She tried desperately to piece together the events, yet she still couldn’t figure out what had happened.
The item had been swapped, but when? Who had swapped it?
"What’s happening? What’s going on?" Melissa was in unbearable agony, curling herself into a ball as she edged closer to Yolanda. "Help me, give me some, just a little, will you?"
Yolanda smirked and said, "I don’t have that stuff."
"Impossible." Melissa was frenzied. "You must have it! You swapped my stuff. Give it to me! Just a little! I’m begging you, I’m begging you!"
She humbly knelt at Yolanda’s feet, completely forgetting all her pride, pleading with Yolanda repeatedly.
Yolanda kicked her away. "I didn’t swap your stuff. You should know—I didn’t even have the chance."
"Then... who? Who did it?" Melissa’s gaze turned strange as it landed on Cooper. "It was you, wasn’t it? It was you! Give me some! Just a little, please?"
She crawled toward Cooper again.
Cooper, fully understanding now, realized the bag of white powder was likely flour, something Yolanda had already discovered, reducing his worries to nothing.
He kicked Melissa away. "Don’t touch me. You’re disgusting!"
Melissa began to cry, overwhelmed by her misery. "Who? Who did it?"
Yolanda slowly crouched down. "I can tell you: this was a gift from your biological daughter."
"What?" Melissa became even more incredulous. "Impossible!"
"The day before you sent her away, she went into your room and swapped this bag." Yolanda sighed softly. "You used this stuff to kill her father. She repaid you measure for measure, tooth for tooth. She used it to take your life in return."
"Impossible, impossible." Melissa refused to believe it. She felt awful, cold, hugging herself tightly, muttering like a lunatic. "Impossible. She’s just a two-year-old child. She doesn’t understand—she doesn’t understand anything."
Yolanda knew that if it were any other child, they might not understand. But Little May had spent time with Brooks in M country; she’d undoubtedly learned a great deal.
This child’s experiences and growth were completely unlike those of an ordinary child.
At this moment, both Noah and Cooper’s phones rang simultaneously. Cooper turned to step outside to answer his call.
Noah answered his phone; the others had already reached the village outskirts, awaiting Noah’s next instruction.
"The suspects have been arrested. You can come in now," Noah ordered in a deep voice.
Outside, Cooper received a call from the Coldson Family’s old mansion—specifically from the postpartum doula. "Second Young Master, has the child been retrieved?"
"Yes." Cooper glanced at the sleeping Little Gabriel in his arms. The little one seemed tired, gazing at him sleepily.
In the old mansion, Isabella was sitting beside the doula. Upon hearing the news, she gestured excitedly to the doula.
"That’s wonderful. Second Young Master, please bring the child back quickly; Madam just fainted from worry," the doula urged eagerly.
"Madam fainted?" Cooper’s face immediately showed concern. "Alright, I’ll return at once. Call the family doctor in the meantime."
Isabella gestured several more times. She was clearly anxious. If the child were handed over to Yolanda, she might never get the chance to hold him again. She had to ensure Cooper brought the child back.
"Second Young Master, please bring the child back as soon as possible. Otherwise, I doubt Madam will recover," the doula echoed Isabella’s implied concern.
At that moment, Cooper realized Isabella must be nearby, likely worried that Yolanda would take Little Gabriel away.
"Alright, I understand." Cooper sighed and hung up the phone.
Soon, Captain Reyes arrived with his team, immediately placing Melissa under arrest.
He personally thanked Noah, "Captain Coldson, we owe this success to you. Your team’s efficiency is truly impressive—something we can learn a lot from."
Noah smirked lightly. "Captain Reyes, you’re overpraising us. This success is also thanks to all of you and your cooperation. Much appreciated."
"Captain Coldson, if it’s convenient, could you visit our station sometime for a sharing session?" Captain Reyes asked tentatively. "We all want to learn from your team."
Noah didn’t outright decline. "Should the opportunity arise, I’ll arrange it."
"Thank you—thank you so much." Captain Reyes left quickly with Melissa and his colleagues.
The village homeowner stepped forward at this point, glancing at Noah and Cooper, clearly expecting his promised reward.
Noah was the first to speak. "Rest assured, the ten-thousand-dollar reward will be fully honored."
"And five million will also be fully honored," Cooper added, addressing Richard Reyes. "Take care of it."
"Understood, President Coldson." Richard immediately pulled the homeowner aside and asked for the transfer account information.
With the matter resolved, Yolanda finally breathed a sigh of relief. She walked up to Cooper, attempting to hold Little Gabriel. "Give me my son!"
