Chapter 311: Chapter 311 He is Cooper’s child and also mine
On the other side, Cooper also received a call saying the baby could leave the incubator.
He was very happy and immediately sent the news to the family estate. That evening, he brought his son home.
Isabella was already waiting at the door, looking as if she’d been eagerly anticipating this moment. When she saw them stepping out of the car, she quickly rushed over.
"Come here, my little grandson, let grandma hold you for a bit." Carefully, she took the baby from Cooper’s arms. "Why is he so light? Did your daddy not feed you enough?"
"The baby was born two months premature, so he’ll grow a little slower in the beginning." Cooper’s eyes followed his son, unable to look away.
Once inside the villa, he noticed Melissa, Christopher, and Sunny were all there, but Noah had not yet returned.
"Congratulations, big cousin!" Christopher stepped forward and patted Cooper on the shoulder before walking over to Isabella to look at the baby. "He looks like both his dad and his mom—what a charmer."
The "mom" he referred to was clearly Yolanda Greenwood.
"Looks more like his dad," Isabella added with a smile.
Melissa stepped forward, "Cooper, the baby can finally leave the incubator now?"
"Yes." Cooper nodded, hesitating before adding, "You should hold him too for a bit."
"Forget it. She’s never had a child before—how would she know how to hold one?" Isabella immediately interjected before Melissa even had a chance to move forward. "The baby is still too small; he can’t be passed around randomly."
Standing to the side with his outstretched hands, Christopher touched his nose sheepishly and muttered, "What’s the big deal? Soon enough, I’ll have one too."
Isabella shook her head with a smile, ignoring him and continuing to amuse herself with her grandson.
"Mom, I want to take the baby upstairs to show Grandpa," Cooper suddenly said.
"That’s fine." Isabella carefully handed the baby back to him. "Go slowly and hold him securely—don’t you dare drop my precious grandson."
Cooper took the baby and headed upstairs.
Old Master Coldson’s room remained as it had always been—unchanged in the slightest. If not for the portrait on the wall serving as a reminder, there were moments when Cooper almost forgot the old master was no longer around.
Standing in front of the portrait with the baby in his arms, Cooper’s expression softened in an unprecedented way.
"Grandpa, I brought the baby to visit you." He glanced down at the child in his embrace and then at the portrait on the wall. "This is my son with Yolanda."
The little one seemed curious about everything around him. His big eyes darted everywhere, occasionally furrowing his brow in displeasure, though thankfully, he didn’t cry or fuss.
"Grandpa, I’ll always keep my son by my side. Yolanda might hate me, but..." Cooper’s voice grew subdued in the emptiness of the room. "At least with the baby here, she’ll visit often, won’t she?"
The old master’s portrait displayed a stern expression—a photo taken in his fifties.
"Grandpa, maybe I messed up again. I don’t know. I can’t think about that anymore," Cooper sighed softly. "Things are already too complicated. All I can do is move forward—there’s no going back now."
The stern face in the portrait seemed as though it was scolding him for his mistakes.
Cooper looked down at the baby, his lips curling into a faint smile. "There’s no retreat anymore."
Downstairs in the living room, Melissa stood by the window. As she heard footsteps behind her, she didn’t turn around; she already knew who it was.
"What’s your plan?" Sunny walked over and stood next to her, lighting a cigarette. "Are you really going to help raise Yolanda’s child?"
"What else can I do?" Melissa answered with a bitter smile. "You’ve seen it too. This baby is Cooper and Isabella’s entire world."
Sunny curved her lips into a smile. "Fair enough. I’ve heard giving birth is incredibly painful. Fortunately, I’ve never planned to have a child in this lifetime."
Melissa glanced back at Christopher, who was sitting on the couch not far away. She lowered her voice, "Has your brother been giving you trouble?"
Sunny stiffened slightly. Christopher had found out about her asking Randy Carter for help. That day, for the first time, he slapped Sunny across the face and ordered her to leave.
Melissa had been a bit afraid but was surprised that Christopher hadn’t sought retribution against her.
Later, she realized something. Deep down, Christopher and Cooper were alike—they simply couldn’t be bothered to deal with people they didn’t care about, not even enough to hurl insults.
"I’m leaving next month," Sunny said as she extinguished her cigarette. "I probably won’t come back for good."
Melissa appeared mildly surprised. "Giving up like that? Admitting defeat? This doesn’t seem like the Sunny I know."
"It’s meaningless." Sunny gazed out the window. "This villa is luxurious, it has everything. But take a look outside—the outside world is much more exciting."
She turned back to Melissa with a thoughtful expression. "Melissa, do you think it’s worth it?"
"What?" Melissa feigned ignorance.
Sunny chuckled lightly. "It doesn’t matter to me anymore. But let me give you a piece of advice—go back and take a good look in the mirror. Ask yourself if it’s worth it."
With that, Sunny turned and left, returning to the living room where she chose the farthest spot from Christopher and focused on her phone.
Melissa watched them. They seemed like the most familiar strangers in the room.
She withdrew her gaze, looking back out the window. Sunny still had the option to leave, but she didn’t. It was too late for her.
When Cooper came back to the living room, the dinner was already set.
Isabella immediately went over to take the baby from him. "Give him to me. You go eat dinner."
Cooper brought over the postpartum doula. "Mom, give the baby to Nanny Bennett. You should eat with us."
"No, I’m not hungry. Just looking at this little one fills me up," Isabella said, holding the baby close and happily entertaining him.
Clearly, the baby didn’t reject her, but he remained expressionless no matter how she tried to amuse him—always wearing a placid look.
During the meal, Christopher asked, "Did you pick a name for the baby yet?"
"Not yet." Cooper had already thought up a few options but was waiting, waiting for news from Yolanda’s side.
"No rush. Take your time," Isabella chimed in. "I’ll ask Master Ross to think of some too. He’ll send them over, and we can choose together."
"Tsk tsk..." Christopher shook his head playfully. "Too bad the birth date couldn’t be chosen. Otherwise, we could’ve consulted a master beforehand and scheduled a C-section accordingly."
Isabella shot him a glare. "If you can’t say anything useful, then say nothing at all."
"I’m not mute. Why should I keep quiet?" Christopher asked Cooper, "So what’s your plan moving forward? Did Yolanda agree to let you have the baby?"
"This is my child. I don’t need anyone’s agreement," Cooper replied, his expression darkening.
Christopher immediately grasped the underlying meaning—Yolanda clearly didn’t agree. "Then what’s your plan? Master of the House? You’re always so busy—do you even have time to raise a child?"
"I can raise him," Isabella and Melissa replied in unison.
Isabella paused, casting a wary glance at Melissa.
"Mom, let me take care of him," Melissa said, continuing, "I may not have experience with a baby this young, but with the postpartum doula here—and after taking care of Little May for so long—I think I have enough experience now."
She turned to Cooper and smiled tenderly. "Most importantly, he’s your child, Cooper. That makes him mine too."
